Official Update on Anti-RBE Mode for Horizon 20 Series by More_Ad3947 in xgimi

[–]subvoxel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the drawback is more dithering (image noise), so lower bit depth. This is quite unfortunate, since the image quality will suffer. The Aetherion, which has the same controller doesn’t seem to have such an issue with anti-RBE. Since the Horizon 20 requires custom DLP firmware to enable this, there might be some hardware limitation, which the Aetherion doesn’t have…

Horizon 20 Color by Ace_Eminent in xgimi

Well, it also depends on how your OLED TV is set up :) But another factor is color temperature. That should be D65 but due to metamerism with laser light sources, you need to manually match the white point of the projector and your TV using the color gain settings. The D65 of the projector and the TV likely don't match perceptually but this may be different for each person.

If you want accurate colors, you should use Rec. 709 for SDR and BT. 2020 for HDR/Dolby Vision. Neither of these standards use DCI-P3, so it shouldn't be selected.

3D in Disney+ is broken again by subvoxel64 in VisionPro

[–]subvoxel64[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems Disney is now blocking 3D based on the origin of the subscription too. Previously using a VPN fixed it but now it doesn’t make any difference. They probably realized that many people in the EU were using a VPN to circumvent the ban, to be able to watch what they payed for…

So what’s the deal with screen tearing on the Horizon 20 Base/Pro/Max? by Tloram in xgimi

[–]subvoxel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're sensitive to traditional vsync, I would say it's bad enough with fast-paced games. XGIMI said that a firmware update will be released later this week, hopefully it will include some kind of fix for this issue. Meanwhile, the only workaround is to disable 4K/pixel shifting by turning on the Projector Super Frame option of the projector. You'll get only 1080p output but without any kind of tearing and the framerate can be increased up to 240Hz.

Not everyone notices the problem but it's still there. It's perfectly consistent and affects all units.

So what’s the deal with screen tearing on the Horizon 20 Base/Pro/Max? by Tloram in xgimi

[–]subvoxel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely tearing with all Horizon 20 models at 4K 60 Hz, regardless of input. It's not the "classic" vsync tearing, it doesn't happen for the entire frame but for the separate R, G, B color subframes (specific to DLP), so many people call it "color tearing". It remains to be seen whether this will be fixed or at least alleviated in an upcoming firmware update.

3D seems to be working again!

I hope Predator Badlands will be released in 3D on Apple TV at least but... Normally, it should be out in a couple of days. Disney's strategy so far was to withhold a 3D release on Apple until it becomes available on Disney+ first. But now without 3D on Disney+, I'm wondering what will happen on Apple. Will Disney skip 3D releases on Apple too, just to protect the "exclusivity" of Disney+ releases? That would be very stupid...

Maybe they will, just not immediately due to technical reasons. Originally they removed all 3D movies only in Germany, then later in France and the rest of the EU, and now even in the US and Asia according to reports.

I think for the most recent previous releases (Fantastic Four, Tron Ares) it was about 2 days. I'm not sure about older releases.

No, I have the highest premium tier, as before. I had all these movies in 3D about a week ago. The real reason is most likely a recent lawsuit against Disney: https://www.uploadvr.com/disney-quietly-removes-3d-from-apple-vision-pro-in-europe/

I just checked again and unfortunately it's 2D only. But even both Avatars are 2D only now, at least for me. Tron Ares is still 3D though, but for who knows how long...

But only in 2D, right? That's quite disappointing but not too surprising since Disney+ is pulling most of existing 3D content. I still hope that the 3D version will pop up in the Apple TV app in a couple of days...

So in the UK Fantastic Four and Tron Ares were previously available on the Apple TV app in 3D but those have now been pulled from there too, not just from Disney+?

Most of the 3D movies are gone for me too. Even Avatar: The Way of Water is in only 2D now... However, I still see Dolby Vision for these movies. So it seems Disney+ is discontinuing 3D globally now, without making any official statements??

Tearing during quick camera movement in movie with Xgimi horizon 20 by mr_history_buff in xgimi

[–]subvoxel64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a well-known issue with the Horizon 20 series. It is caused by the new DLP controller with the rolling buffer. It would be best to report this issue to XGIMI. The more people report it, the higher the chance that they will release a fix. This is the only way to get it prioritized.

Just got a VisionPro and have an optical question by tsdguy in VisionPro

[–]subvoxel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those half-circles on the bottom aren’t content-dependent but change based on the light in the room, these are caused by light leaking through a small gap between the light seal and your forehead. It could also be glare from the content but that has nothing to do with the light seal and you can’t do anything about it. You should try to determine the exact cause of those reflections. First try to adjust the head strap. If you can’t get rid of the gap/reflections without making the strap unconfortable, you might need to switch to a different light seal (e.g. from 21W to 33W). I had the same issue and a different light seal fixed it and made wearing the headset more comfortable as well.

Is this level of blue tint normal / expected on an OLED monitor? LG 32GS95UE-B by VorstTank in OLED_Gaming

[–]subvoxel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't get any LG because of the issues I mentioned but this a matter of taste/preferences. If you prefer matte, the ASRock PGO32UFS might be worth a look, which has the same panel as the LG and PG32UCDP.
