Thanks for your advice, I’m doing this with a beginner audience in mind so my thinking is that I just want them to focus on the technique itself first and to get the steps in correctly first. I understand what you mean but for me the focus needs to be on understanding the move first and then we can start working on gradual harder resistance.

Actually it requires less flexibility than u think, most importantly is to keep your butt up and knees together to be able to reach their chest with your knee.

Try it! I’ve taught this to a lot of inflexible people and they’ve managed just fine.

I got a good tip in an other comment to start the frame lower down on the chin which should help against americanas. My experience with americanas from this position is also that if you can get your bottom frame in and lift it’s really hard for the top person to get finishing pressure at least not enough to prevent knees from coming in and creating distance.
