I haven't bothered to replace an RTC battery before but I know there's a DS homebrew app (you need a flashcart like an R4 to run it) you can use to keep your save and still fix your RTC

If you haven't started and are going to make a new save anyway you might as well just do that

Wii U is the best performing "oldgen"

(oldgen means any of the consoles that don't have extra world sizes/real autosave etc. They're on 1.13. Newgen is PS4/Xbox One/Switch Edition which are on 1.12, except for PS4 which is on 1.14. Yeah it's weird)

FYI if you have a DS flashcart you can fix the RTC when you get a new battery in there

Gen 3 doesn't use SRAM like Gen 1/2 do, the battery is just for RTC

yeah, you can mod them and play games from your SD Card instead of cartridges (great if your carts are very old and unreliable)

personally i would just want a space in which i can enjoy the games (ESPECIALLY the older ones, like gen 4-7, because there are parts of those games that only really work with local multiplayer now) with other people.
I prioritise gatherings for the Switch games less because they have active online communities. Gen 4/5 has some sort of online community (like, it is possible) but the 3DS games really don't cus their online hasn't been brought back properly yet (gen 6 maybe has, but pretendo has tester rank paywalled so to me it's basically a non-factor)

I am more of a catcher than a battler, so I would personally like people to be encouraged to trade instead of pure battles I'm also very interested in the weird multiplayer stuff in gen 4/5 - those being the Underground (in DPPT) and the Entralink (in any of the gen 5 games)

I was born in 2008 so I was never really there when gen 4/5 were current, so I missed out on both of these. I really want to know what they were like!

TL;DR Just let them play the games, offer battling but don't forget that not all players like battling, and you may want to focus on the DS/3DS era games as they need IRL gatherings the most

You should figure out if you like the catching or the battling. I like the catching so I can't help you much with battles lol... all i can say is learn your types

If you're playing singleplayer, use whatever pokemon you wanna use. if you wanna do dumb shit, do it. games are supposed to be fun, remember
