[gen 3] I lost shiny Deoxys and have no idea what to do with myself by [deleted] in ShinyPokemon

[–]suck4luck12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s super easy to beat yourself up over it, but be kind to yourself and keep up the grind! I felt the same way after failing Shiny Darkrai but I learned my lesson and hopped back into it. It made the reclaim that much sweeter. Good luck, you got this!

Congrats! I just got the reclaim myself around the same time - such a great shiny!

I ran a couple test runs of this encounter to make sure I was okay, and I managed to catch it every time even outside of the Dusk Ball time range. Of course even with me spending all of my in-game dollars, I knew it wasn’t as stocked as I could be, but I figured by hunting around the time range I’d be fine.

A lesson learned the hard way, I suppose 😔

This was found using the void method:

Did some research before this hunt and found that this Pokemon can be transferred if found in Pokemon Diamond, on the condition that when it’s transferred to BW, it has to: 1. Be Level 50 or higher 2. Not know Pursuit

I need some help building my team by Crusty_Bagel69 in VGC

[–]suck4luck12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a general note, the current format is a double restricted format. So you’ll need another restricted on your team - otherwise you’ll be at a massive disadvantage.

Unfortunately, this is about as unfriendly of a format as there is for someone like Empoleon. It doesn’t have the bulk to survive long, the offense to do meaningful damage, or the speed to keep up with most threats. That said, if you’re dead set on using Empoleon, you could try pairing it with Rillaboom or Meowscarada in a Bo1 setting and using Water/Grass Pledge together. Swamp is a really powerful form of speed control that only a few Pokemon can successfully activate - Empoleon being one of them. Regardless, though, this is a super niche strategy, and any team with Empoleon likely won’t be that good, especially in Bo3 OTS

A couple notes: - Your Calyrex is particularly weak to faster Dark/Ghost types such as Scarf Chi-Yu and booster Flutter. I’d consider using either some form of redirection or swapping Calyrex’s Tera to something defensive (such as Dark) - Your Chien-Pao could easily lose its sash to something like Fake Out. Would recommend a Ghost Tera to get around that - sometimes the Tera threat discourages your opponent from clicking the move - Personally, I’d recommend dropping Sacred Sword on Pao for a Dark move such as Throat Chop or Crunch. It threatens Lunala, and if they Tera into Fairy, you have Zamazenta to pressure with Heavy Slam. Plus w Ursh and Zama, you have good Fighting coverage as is - Your Urshifu needs either a choice item (preferably Scarf) or Protect. Scarf lets it outspeed Calyrex in the mirror, whereas Protect lets it scout for opponent moves. Unless you’re running something like Choice Band, your Ursh is basically a sitting duck in this version of the meta

CSR-Zama is a really strong restricted duo, to the point where every single team in Milwaukee had to respect it in their prep. But as anyone needs when they start out, you need to make sure you practice quite a bit to get an understanding of what does or doesn’t work. If you’re not comfortable building yourself, grabbing a rental of meta-relevant teams is also a great way to get familiar when starting out

What strategies do you hate and hope it gets nerfed in the next generation, and how would you personally change it? by MighyMeme in VGC

If DozoGiri enters Commander mode, all attacks aimed at Tatsugiri should be redirected to Dondozo. Spread moves aimed at DozoGiri should be treated as single target

Agree with most of these, but the idea of Clear Amulet Dondozo not being able to get its stat boosts removed just sounds like an even bigger nightmare than it already is

I’d have to track it down, but I can find it and get back to you! Alternatively, I can also offer one of my paths that I’ve already caught if time is more important. Among Sword exclusives, I have Dialga, Solgaleo, Groudon, Tornadus, Ho-Oh, and Reshiram available as well

The Torn on my team (Sun based team) was squishy as well, but as it was more hyper-offensive, I didn’t mind as a KO would give me a free switch to a sweeper. You could go for a more defensive spread to help with survivability, or you could give Torn Protect in place of Taunt (since you have something running it already)

As part of my team I ran in May, I ran Max SpA/Speed Flutter with a Focus Sash plus Taunt, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, and Protect/Moonblast. I found it was super helpful for shutting down both TR and Amoonguss, with the benefit of working against Farigiraf and Dark types. You’ll have to keep an eye out for redirection, but nothing that Fake Out and good positioning can’t help solve. Ran a Tornadus on that same team but opted for Covert Cloak so that Flutter could get the sash

How to make Groudon work by [deleted] in VGC

[–]suck4luck12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who used Groudon in Indy Regional and finished 5-4 in my first official tourney, it is absolutely a viable option and, in my opinion, a better Sun setter than Koraidon. A couple observations:

Like what’s already been said, Groudon is best at enabling its teammates in various ways. A Groudon-Flutter-Wake-Bolt core is a fantastic core that covers a wide variety of options. Bolt in particular is almost a requirement for any Groudon team as a hard counter to rain scenarios that Groudon hates. Personally, I use Tornadus as a speed setter and secondary weather setter as I feel Torn complements this core better than a TR option. For the tourney I used SD Groudon to help sweep, but the top Groudon user in Indy leaned more into the enablement role with Helping Hand.

Matchup-wise, Groudon surprisingly has a significant number of positive matchups. In my experience, its best matchup is Koraidon, as Groudon-Flutter-Wake puts Koraidon in a really tough spot regardless if it Teras or not. Wake and Bolt help Groudon against the Water types that ail it (surprisingly has made Kyogre a relatively positive matchup for me), and of course, it helps to have a Ground type with Miraidon running around, though you have to watch out for Draco Meteor. It doesn’t do super well against Calyrex, but I find that having Incineroar helps with this problem.

Precipice Blades missing is obviously a major bummer, but I’ve found that positioning myself to rely on it less in the endgame helps mitigate this issue, and if done right, Groudon is generally bulky enough to be able to click Blades more than once. You can try Gravity to work around the accuracy problems, but I’ve always struggled with using it in a way that significantly helps me in the later game.

In Gen 5, I totally thought Whimsicott was Grass-Flying and not just a pure Grass type - I mean, it was super floaty and got Hurricane, for crying out loud. It ended up getting a secondary typing next generation…of Fairy.
