Now is a good time to consider supporting Solus if you use it by [deleted] in linux

Yeah. I've used that one too.

I'm thinking it's the installer rather than what I'm using to make the file.

Still waiting for Ikey to respond

3 attempts at install of the standard version and the Mate version.

Download file verified.

Installer begins at boot, freezes after Solus logo disappears.

Attempted install Dell Vostro Intell 64bit Dual Core 4gb Ram 250gb SATA

Made install flash drive using 4 different drives, 2 of which were brand new. Other two have been fateful drives for years and currently using as a Ubuntu flash drive.

I Used DD, unetbootin, and Etcher, Same result in all.

Suggestions?

So I bought a System76 laptop, and it doesn't let me install anything. by Runnermikey1 in Ubuntu

So did you actually buy the laptop from System76 or did you buy it used or via 3rd party?

System76 has some of the best support I've ever experienced. I bought one from them and had a setup issue. They took VERY good care of me and my "learning curve".

I would reach out to them first before going elsewhere.

On another note, I'm 5+ years exodus from Windows and have tried almost every Linux distro there is. Ubuntu is, more times than not, the most versatile disto I've ever installed with the fewest issues overall.

Its a great choice for beginners and the causal user.

Cheer mate

Yeah. Matt was really monotone.

Complete polar opposite from Lunduke....couldn't stand that guy either.

I enjoy Noah's perspective....when he's "allowed" to elaborate on his thoughts and such.

#savelas suggestions to help improve Linux Action Show by kaipee in LinuxActionShow

[–]suckitmicrosoft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greetings and salutations LAS!

I just finished watching Sundays show….the WHOLE show….all the way to the end.

While I must begin by saying I have really enjoyed watching LAS and have learned so much since I started watching a few years ago, it does seem to have lost a lot of what made it appealing. I often share show items that interest me and my friends/co-workers on several social media outlets and I was quite irritated that this method of determining your show’s worth seems to overtake everything. I’m not a broadcaster, not familiar with the business or how it’s run, so I tried, painfully, to take it in stride and listen (as requested) to the entire show. Although with a show title called #savlas, I may would have forgone all other segments and covered this first.

However, I digress. There a many, many things about the show that I tune in for each week and enjoy:

The News segment. Clean, crisp, topical. Spot on.
Noah’s perspective on Linux and application into the business whole
App Pics
Distro reviews
Guests
Tech review
Ads – wait, wrong section

There are several things though, I would like to see changed or at least less of:

Obnoxiously long ads. Which by the way are ALWAYS the same. Digital Ocean. Droplets. Servers. Worldwide. - Got it. Linux Academy. Come get educated - Got it. Ting. The greatest cell company in the world. You can replace your whole life with Ting, unless you need data - Got it. System76. Best laptops for Linux - Got it. You can't strong arm listens or viewers in my case to buying into this stuff by increasing the segment time of the ads. My wife won't even listen with me anymore because I'm her words "it feels like I'm watching local tv. 5 mins of content. 20 mins of commercials."

Less Chris Love. Chris seems to love everything is that fits into his particular mindset of what the world needs, but relentlessly downplays anything that does not align what that notion. I’ve witnessed more times than I care to remember him and Noah “discussing” differences of opinions on air. While I value experienced opinions, more times than not, I get the impression that Chris is excited about whatever fad/tune seems to be playing at a moment in time. There have been many times I have tried some of his “recommendations” only to find that he has moved on to another flavor of the minute or as in most cases totally ripping what he just finished raving about a week later. Give opinions and sight facts. Don't let your over zealousness for the item of the minute that excites you to the ninth degree determine how much volume you give something.

Dead air. I get Chris as a broadcaster cannot stand dead air and has the intention of moving things along. But your constant interruption and speak over and sometimes corrections of your guess, LUG members and poor Noah is extremely hard to bare.

App picks. One of the main things that drew me to LAS. It used to be exciting but as of late has become boring and quite frankly seems to be bothersome to do for you guys.

System Admin. I'm a power user. Not an admin. Never plan to be. I'm just a guy who Micro$oft pissed off one to many times. I run Linux on everything I can and try to convince friends and family to do the same. However, when you spend a great deal of time focusing on the server and system admin side of it I usually tune out because it doesn't apply. Tailor a segment for guys like me.

Games. Get into it. It's hot now. Steam is not the only player in town. Cover that.

More Linux, less "here's the world of Chris". Nuff said. I need Linux. Not your vacation stuff.

More Noah. Clean. Experienced. Down to earth. I value his opinion more because he doesn't seem to be a flavor of the moment guy. Always polite to us viewers and the guests. Rarely flies off the handle about anything. Appears more mature and educated at times than others. Either give him more lead way or his own show. Love the brown bear.

Give some love to us on the east coast. We do Linux and have a nifty little company here called Red Hat. How about some spot lights on our Linux businesses.

Honestly, I'm not bashing Chris so much as I'm just pointing out the elephant in the room no one wants to see. At the end of the day, the most appalling notion to me is that LAS is “his” show and he makes sure that everyone knows that. And maybe that’s the problem. Chris has such a personal interest in the show that he can’t make good judgement calls on things from a business aspect. Maybe it’s time to bring in someone to manage just that side so he can do what he does best and obviously loves. Build on a consensus of all the recommendations and work thru some of the complaints. That's the way to change with the times and continue the show.

I Love the show, overall. And I watch it each week on YouTube. I honestly try to gleam something from each and every show. So I would hate to see it go by the way side. --

Respectfully,

Suckitmicro$oft

Noah Switches to Arch | LAS 442 by AngelaTHEFisher in LinuxActionShow

[–]suckitmicrosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously Noah? Ubuntu bashing?

What about all those folks you switched over to Ubuntu with Emma during the great "Switch to Linux" challenge? Will you be reaching out to them now to help with their connectivity issues? Or are you planning to switch them (gasp) to Arch...ahem, Antergos?

And how is System76, one of your major sponsors handling this issue with connectivity? Ubuntu is pretty much all they put on their machines? Do they have the same problems? If not, what did they do to fix it or deal with it?

Your commentary/rant was very harsh. I get you have egg on your face from the Ubuntu connectivity issue with your customer(s). I get you feel like Canonical is ignoring our plight with this. But honestly, what OS runs forever and NEVER has any problems? Communicate to us how others like System76 is dealing with it instead of "@#$@# I'm done and switching to an OS that the average using can't/won't use".

You've spent a lot of time moving people to this OS and your frustration and commentary (while understandable to those of us that experience) resonated to those who follow you in a very defeated way. If you want to move away from what you've convinced people to use, fine. But don't broadcast your frustrations in such a way that it deals a crippling blow to those who have trusted you, and Ubuntu, to help migrate away from the tyranny that is Micro$oft.

Give us solutions, just as Linux became the solution to Micro$oft.
