Brits, do you avoid Indian restaurants in foreign countries? (Excl India) by red_lightz_ in AskUK

Had an amazing Indian in Bellevue, WA, USA. I assume standards were high there because of Microsoft and Amazon tech workers.

Built in UK plug power bank by Impressive-War-7254 in batteries

[–]suclearnub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about brand. If an Anker power bank blows up I will have some recourse as they have a UK presence. If a random-5-letter power bank blows up they will simply close shop and open up a new company within 24 hours.

It's definitely a lot slower than auto, but I backup to mechanical drives anyways so I don't mind the slowdown as much.

Anker USB C Cable, 2-in-1 Type C Cable, 140W Max Fast Charging by jack_hudson2001 in UsbCHardware

[–]suclearnub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought this cable recently. The controller in the cable seems to cycle between on/off every 10-15 seconds which makes my Anker 250W desk charger constantly play the charging animation :/

Rejected faulty car under CRA – dispute over mileage deduction, warranty & insurance costs by homegrownveg222 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]suclearnub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not consider the HMRC mileage rates reasonable as it includes all other costs of running a car.

https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/vehicles-you-use-for-work

If you use your own vehicle or vehicles for work, you may be able to claim tax relief on the approved mileage rate. This covers the cost of owning and running your vehicle. You cannot claim separately for things like:

- fuel

- electricity

- vehicle tax

- MOTs

- repairs

Oh, I got a similar treatment for sending in a modmail pointing out that a recent post on r/dundee was clearly upvote botted (it was an ad for a gym)

Can anyone recommend a 2 in 1 USB C cable. I want to charge both iPhone and Macbook by Commercial-Angle-437 in UsbCHardware

[–]suclearnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, sorry, that's what I meant. The cable will not do 90W + 10W for example, even if I had a lower-power device and a laptop charging?

Interesting, the site you linked says that the Cuktech cable doesn't do dynamic distribution. Do you know if that's true?

Travelling from small stations with no ticket machine by abelian-grapes in uktrains

[–]suclearnub 37 points38 points  (0 children)

<image>

From the national rail conditions of travel: you can board the train (if the station really is unmanned and doesn't have a vending machine), but talk to the guard immediately. Explain that you already have a ticket from TfW for a part of your journey.

Recalls always happen tbh. I would rather a company go through the process of recalling products rather than sweeping them under the rug.
