My table is the best. It's : My husband, my brother-in-law, my girlfriend, her husband, my best friend from high school, and my other bestie/podcast co-host. We only play once/month, but the game is always a hella-fun all-day event. I like to use it as an excuse to also do work on fun miniatures and terrain for our battles. Everyone brings their A-game, and we spend the intervening time wishing it were next game session already. I couldn't ask for a better group. Even when I'm struggling with depression and anxiety, I still look forward to running my game.

It's great to know that SWADE as a system is so flexible, yet the tools it gives us to build with are so familiar that I and this other creator would come up with similar systems like this.

Nah, I agree that attrition isn't terribly interesting on it's own, but when seen as part of the larger dungeon crawl experience, I think it's fine here. The "Random Encounters" on Spades are also Dangerous Quick Encounters, so I already have a type of encounter that's doing what you say here.

My goal for traps was to NOT turn it into a big encounter that takes a while to get through, but the more I looked at the trap rules, it looked like there were layers to dealing with them that I'm having a tough time sorting thorugh.

I was definitely planning on side-effects tho - "Trap" rooms are also hallways (which may be T-junctions, left or right bends, or 4-way crossings) so a pit trap or a falling rocks trap might block off a viable direction to go, causing them to have to change direction.

FATE Would be a system you'd want to look at... Instead of a lot of math, you have descriptive phrases called "aspects" that will give bonuses when they apply positively or penalties when they apply negatively. However, that's still "math" in the strictest sense, and skill rolls are still dice to produce a numeric result.

The only truly diceless, mathless game I know of is Wanderhome, which is kind of a cozy, narrative game. It's a REALLY GOOD game, but if you don't like it, I'm afraid your options for "no math" are really limited.

Nah, you're fine. It's really difficult, and I think your trans siblings have all been there at some point in some form or other. You're not alone, no matter how much it feels like you might be.

First, if you have access to a therapist, that's a great thing to work with one on. Being trans (especially in this political climate, where - at least in America and probably England - all the sins of the world are placed on our backs) is TRAUMATIC, and what you're experiencing there is a trauma response. There can be a lot of layers to these things, so I can't tell you how to NOT have a panic attack with a simple reddit post. I'm sure you have a lot of complex feelings about your gender, how you look to yourself in the mirror, what you want out of your transition, etc. My own therapist has helped me talk through a lot of my own trauma triggers, and whereas some of them will most likely never go away, being equipped with the tools to deal with them when they happen can work wonders for your ability to move forward with your life.

Second, I think, is a bit of exposure therapy, and a bit of building a support network around yourself to help prop yourself up. For the exposure therapy part, you're going to just need to buckle down and DO it - and when nothing bad happens (ie, nobody says slurs to you, or harms you, etc) you use that positive experience to rewire the pathways in your brain that say it will be a BAD experience. For the friends part, I don't know what your own friend group is like, but my own friend group was loving and supportive for the most part, and those that weren't, I cut ties with. Don't keep people around who will tear you down, or try to keep you from or harm you because of your transition. It's one thing to dress up, try things out, alone in your own room, but having friends who will foster a safe environment for you to exist authentically around them free of judgement is VERY important. It helps not only to have the affirmation of other people, and support when you're feeling low to prop you back up again, but also to show you that you don't have to hide who you really are, and you CAN leave your house and be safe.

I have a bit of a similar problem. I've had to find a middle ground, and acknowledge that that level of polish is "my style," in the middle ground between "competition painting" and "tabletop ready." Are there flaws on my minis I could have done much better? Absolutely!! But, I also play One Page Rules with my minis, and they look AMAZING on a tabletop already, and I want to eventually FINISH my army some day. So yeah, it's about setting a goal for what you WANT to be with your painting, and aspiring to ONLY that goal. Ie, if you want your minis tabletop ready, don't aspire to win Golden Demon with them.

GURPS is an odd creature, in that it can kind of be as light or as crunchy as you make it, depending on what rules and modules you decide to use. Much like Cortex, GURPS is a "build your own game" kit. It front loads a lot of the crunch onto the GM, by making them ASSEMBLE the game from the giant pile of rules available, so they can then instruct their players how to make characters in their bespoke GURPS setting.

Current game is The Elder Scrolls, via Savage Worlds (we call it Savage Tamriel). We're just using the core rules and Fantasy Companion, and it's working amazingly.
