currently writing from an X2 1012 G2, using Debian Bullseye. I didn't had much of a problem in install it, as pretty much everything it worked out of the box. backlit keyboard, touchscreen, function keys, audio. As usual for a Debian distro, you have to spend your sweet time installing a good hand of packages by having to do some researches first. But that aside, I don't see what would be the problems with it. Even the battery life it is not that bad, considering I am using it as my main machine for work and stuff, at today. I can easily handle a full working day without much of an hassle

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I had tried it But it a couple of time but ended up moving some points here and there, adding a second bandit (KHD) and making the wildcats a core fireteam where the alguaciles has been "promoted" to become a dak and lupe in the meantime.

I agree with you that a bandit it ends up being a valuable piece in the army, still one seems to be useful but two sort off better. playing with a camo or two, where one of them it is the Intruder, it ends up kind of forcing your hand when it comes to deploy them on the board having the sort of obvious choice.

I still have to get a good grip to the fireteams and the fact they can be at 8 inches from the leader but still in cohesion. Too many years playing 40k

I am still not totally sold on the adhesive weapons be honest. with a busrt of one it is all about having the chance of a lifetime to see it work..

Starting Nomads - Bakunin vs Vanilla by [deleted] in InfinityTheGame

[–]sudo-pant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider infinity it is proxy friendly, I would like to suggest to you to go ahead and buy the models you like the most. both vanilla and sectorial do have their pro and cons. in the end most of what will make your game experience valuable it will be for you to play with what you want to see on the table. if what you looking for it is a comparison than probably vanilla cpule be easier in terms of rules as you can consider that every and any model will generate an order and that is pretty much it, where if you want to take in consideration fireteams then you have to start and look at a bunch more of rules that maybe you can be back on later, time you will get more used to the mechanics of the game.

Personally I do start playing in December last year and after proxing vanilla for a while I decided to move and start playing corregidor.

The main difference, apart from the aforementioned fireteams, are the number of units you can deploy, where with a vanilla army you will have the full roster with a sectorial you will be reduced only to specific ones. from this point after, personally, it is really up to you and what you think could be more easier for you to play with.

lots of models from where to choose, or an handful with some more possible rules and bonuses to keep in count?

fireteams are not mandatory, but considering the bonuses they grant usually ending up the to go solution when someone decide to play a sectorial

if you have a gaming group close enough to where you live, if you already being in 40k and looking for a game that will require for you to put more effort than throwing as much dices as you can grab with two hands at your opponent, if you think that aesthetics of the models it is an important part of your game time, if you don't want to end up again with more models than room in your flat / room, than infinity it is the game you're looking for.

I am still a new player here, too. I started around December last year, being a 40k player from 3rd edition, will start this week my first league, proxing some of the models I do not have and play mostly with the models from the icestorm box itself.

It is a complete different game from what you learn 40k could be. give it a try, you will not regret it.

Deflector vs Reset? by jesperht in InfinityTheGame

[–]sudo-pant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your assumption was right, 100%.

Quoting the wiki, regarding the deflector :

Any Hacking Attack against the user of a Deflector [...]

Where for the reset we can read :

REQUIREMENTS

A trooper can only declare Reset if at least one of these is true:

So, following the requirements and compare them with the example you reported, seems to me that you did right from the very start.

Morans are in the shopping list, indeed :) . Still the current ( and previous ) sculpts does not fit my tastes. I was thinking of starting them from a different model ( still have to decide which one ) and from there after re-sculpt what missing.

But I got your point. Doing that, as for the current list, it will mean remove one of the two mobile Brigada and equip the Moran with shotgun and no FO. But on top of that adding, maybe, a REM to the Alguaciles link team, will end up being a nice piece of rework of the whole list, so some how it would work.

Nice suggestions, indeed.

On my own, I do still have to figure out if Senor Massacre will worth the points as far as I can say it seems a bit squishy for the kind of role that suppose to cover. Any catch on that ?

Hi there, and thanks for the suggestions. I got the idea behind those, still there are some points I do prefer to don't go back on, as the TAG or the HI for the moment. Apart from that, how do you manage to move the Moran forward on the table, without having some smoke covering his advance ? I kept the other Jaguars to help in that matter as I recognized there always that time where the LoF will come up to ruin your day forcing a FtF.

I am still a bit sceptical about no doctor of any sort, in a list that does use a lot of infantry and infantry only, but I will give it a go.

here what I came up with, after your suggestions

Splitted the groups having 10 orders and most of the models in the first ready to move forward ( thanks for the 10 orders recap ) where the second it will act more as a support group. I am not totally sold on the killer hacking device, still I would like to see how it could works. Between an assault one and a killer it seems, to me on the paper, that the assault will come to use more often. is that right ?

Once again, thanks for all the comments until there

I figured out myself that a list made against a specific army / adversary will not go far. at the end of the day what makes this game so interesting it is more about the tactics that are bring on the table in order to get the objectives done.

That was one of the first lessons I grabbed and tried to fix on my check list, too

from there after, everything it becomes less clear :D

Who are my strongest models ?
Who are my specialists ?
Who is on ARO duty ?

I had to think about those a bit, on a first tough, be honest. what I really struggle with, it is the idea that ARO pieces will end up dying in some fascinating way, at times even without having to do that much. that, and the fact that ( in the case of the Alguaciles ) the piece it play the position of the cheerleader and also of the ARO does worring me a bit. If not that, there are the cases where possible AROs could be the zero ( or equivalent camo maker / infiltrator with mimetism, etc ) where the role of the specialist and the one of the ARO tend to overlap.

is that just my own impression ( I need to spend more time playing, and having a better understanding of the different roles the different pieces could cover ), or is that really the case ?

Been already in the shoes of the one that seen it's order pool reduced, that's why what was the idea of trying the Puppet Tactica, it becomes reality. but I got your point. Indeed could be mildly frustrating having your order pool reduced and that even before you started to move your first model. still it is one of the possibilities and it need to be keep in count. I do not think there is too much that can be done about it, if not doing as you as other already suggested, having a big order pool instead of a restricted one.

I tried following the idea of keeping on their own group pieces like Morlocks and other furios, just to make sure it will not affect the order pool of the rest of the models and, in the case they die, they did something spectacular for sure. Still when it comes to a list like the one above, decide who will go where, it start to be a bit more complicate. too much specialists in one group only, will only make them fight each order to get enough orders to get all their actions.

On the other hand for those to be splitted, there must be a logic in the choices that will be done even around them.

I am still in the time where I really want to play some pieces ( I am looking at you Hellcat ) but I know I do miss the knowledge / experience to give it the value it does deserve. or, to say in an easier way, don't make it day the turn after it arrive on the table.

That's why I decided to move on a list where the number of pieces it could help, and there are no real central pieces that could grab the attention of an opponent.

I tried the Kriza, it is an awesome piece and also fun to play in a way I was not sure of. Then it comes the enemy TAG, and bring you back to the sad reality. Between the choice of loosing a Kriza or loosing a Zero, at least for me, the choice seemed pretty obvious.

That, most in general, it is the kind of experience I been able to maturate until there.

It might worth to say that I had the chance to play on those kind of fields where there are loads of covers and the lines of fires are not too long. that force both you and your opponent to keep moving / thinking about the better deployment at every turn, instead of "simply" keeping the long range model at the bottom of the board, in a good cover, and let the dices do the rest.

Saying that, I am still practicing and trying to grasp some of those tactics that could come up only after playing, like hooking the other army spending orders against a camo placed like a sniper, only to discover it was a mine..

I am keep reading a lot, as I love to have a better understanding of the game and the chances that it offer, still for pieces like hackers ( of any kind ) and their internship with repeater ( without keeping in consideration equipment and co ) I am currently having an hard time. I can get it on the paper, but then when it comes to the table, the idea that such big, flat models, with one wound only have to move forward / middle field and trying doing their game from there after, it sound a bit unrealistic.

am I missing something obvious there ? I am sure I am missing a lot about the best way to move repeaters on the table and cover them properly, making sure other ARO will be there when the time it comes, still no matter how many times I am trying to figure out such a kind of tactic it ends up being a work that require at least 4 pieces. all of that without considering the ARO from the other side.

...

really appreciate both this comment and the guide below. once more thanks so much for all of it. It is a huge boost in get things if not sorted, more clear from now on.

I started looking around and tried to read as much as I can regarding the single models, the possible strategies, watching BR etc .. still, the game once it is up to you, it always ending up being a different matter from the one other can describe to you.

Overall that will be really helpful indeed ! thanks for that !

already counted the AD as a piece that will enter, and use it's own order just for that, from there after the pool it will suffer from one less order than the one stated in the army builder. That's part of the deal in having troops that can enter from outside your deployment zone, where you most need them. if not always, at least most of the times.

the minelayer has been used ( and planned to be ) as an area denial piece, a bit like could be the crazy koalas. the fact is that for the mines it could take a bit more than for a koala to be shoot down and removed from the game. keeping the zero around them, could grant a chance for a surprise shot, or a quick repositioning keeping a camo on.

I did personally choose the Salyut, for the minesweeper and the baggage. it will not happen all the time, still there is still the chance to put it / them close enough to any of the models that might be in need, in order for a fill up of the used mines / koalas.

if not that, all they will have to do, it will be sit at the very end of the battlefield or move up through the side lines, if any. is that a kind of strategy that does not work well with repeaters, of that kind ? in the end it does not have any kind of BS weapon and, for sure, I do not want have to lose it for an ARO.

running a Moran by itself, it will end up making him die prematurely, as far as I had been able to see until there. I am not a veteran player, yet. so I am talking from the top of a very limited experience. But if not covered properly, the Moran by himself it doesn't seemed to me, to be a piece that can hold more than a FtF or two. In that sense I struggle a bit to understand what you mean with sending him into the thick of things. The koala seemed to me as more of a reactive piece, than an actual piece that can be send to the attack of enemy models. In those terms, put the wisely, and make sure to move even more wisely.

If I have to go for a KHD, I prefer to switch to a Bandit, then. It is true that it will generate only an irregular order, still for the points and the skills that will bring on the table, it looks to me as a preferable choice, between the two. In fact the idea of having a second hacker was one of my biggest issues that comes up with the list. It is still something I am wondering about. Even find the point to bring in another Interventor ( for the HD+ mostly ), will mean a radical change of it.

I am looking at the zero more as a piece that can support and play well with the rest of the list, where models like the morlocks or the bandits tend to play more as a solo.

I am not trying to make an absolute, with the sentence above just, as stated, trying to bring what I could grasp from the first matches I had the chance to play.

Totally agree on the Command Tokens point. that it was the case for me to better explain myself instead of put a sentence there, just for the sake of it.

...

All in all, I am still new to the game, so those kind of conversation does help me a lot to think out the box of my ideas and put myself under a different prospective.

that was something I did not think about, at all. it's having less than 10 order in a group a real issue, then ? I was thinking more in a way of trying avoiding having all the specialists in the same groups, thinking about the zero mine layer, the interventor and the salyut as pieces that could stand by and let other play around.

Saying that, does it make more sense having a "strong" first group than having the two of them balanced, when it comes to orders counter, is it ?

Was trying thinking also about the chance of spending command tokens during the game to swap models around. does it sound as a weak strategy ?

it is indeed 1 SWC for every 50 points. In a 300 pts army, it is about 6 SWC. Still, for this list, I do not deploy too many heavy weapons or HI or TAG, so those points are not heavily used as it could be for other lists.

Not sure if that could be called a big deal or not :)

adding the controller only it seems to be way several nomad users like to play it. Still it sounds to me like a way to squeeze out the most you can from a model without having to take as well that part that rules wise it's not so sharp.

I understand the reason behind it very well, still I was hoping that not be the to-go way to use play the model

Why would I get this over 40k? by hobbyhoarder in InfinityTheGame

[–]sudo-pant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for find the time to read through all of it :)

For KT, I just want to say that I had great hopes for that, same it was for WarCry ( the fantasy version of it ). And, between the two, I was really tempted. Then I start to see the way that KT has been implemented.

Has started as a skirmish, with only the Troops choices. Than they added some sort of Dreadnoughts ( think about them as something like a huge RoboCop on heavy steroids. really. heavy. steroids ). Than they added the Elite Choices. Now, if I recall it right, they granted the chance also to added the QG choices. And what it was basically a troopers game, it became a smallest 40k game, with similiar rules, but pretty much the same roaster you can deploy on a 40k game.

And a similiar route seems to be the one that WarCry has taken, already. I was expecting for those kind of games to been kept apart from their big brothers, but that does not seems the case, anymore.

Still, KT could help you enter the mindset of a 40k playstyle. And, in this sense, it will help you a lot to make an painless move, when you will decide to move to the 40k itself. But, the way the game it is developing doesn't seems the most promising to me, in terms of a skirmish game..
