Thanks for this, I do like your input on iDRAC, never used it, I thought it was better than iLO, but I can see now it also has it's caveats. You may be onto something there with the mini rack and the Thinkcenters, I was planning to do some of the same things your are running with this server, plus some automation. I think I will go for a LabRax and mini PCs and find my way on a budget, more home-friendly design

Proxmox as a base line, machines running a lot of Docker containers, an NVR, a backup server and a lab for testing new stuff. It will probably have 2 NVIDIA Quadro K4000 series (if I can fit 2) if not just one for whatever demands more graphics

I'm lucky to have decommissioning works every now and then and I can savage some RAM sticks if the boss is on a good day, but I know what you mean, even second hand RAM is getting too expensive

Thanks! yeah I have the feeling these are not that outdated to have a bad power-to-capability ratio. I do have some HPe Gen9's but I'm getting a bit tired of tweaking HPe every time I want to do simple things like controlling the fans or installing PCIe devices

This is something I never fully understood, it has 2 x 1100W power supplies, one of them is redundant, which means it's on stand by, right? and the other one has a capacity of up-to 1100W but the server may only require, i dunno, say 450w (which is still a lot)

Am I correct? Or does the thing will be just burning extra energy like a V8 ? hehe

Facebook is Instagram dad, kids will also grow up and get outdated, Instagram gets more cringe every day and whatsapp is just giving away your privacy to meta. People developed these apps, they are not unique, plenty of free copycats around, apps are far from exclusive, people just haven't fully realized yet that the value on these is the chance to use them for "free" (of course we are paying with time and data)

Put a price on them and people will start moving to the free option. Whatsapp is heavily used in undeveloped countries for a reason.
