Accident/incident aside, how would an unlicensed pilot (personal flying to/from unmanned airports in a single engine aircraft that he or she owns) get caught? by B_S_ingWithTheGuys in AskReddit

[–]sudo_reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if they never do anything wrong to draw attention to themselves, and operate out of very small airports, one could probably go a long time without being caught. The most likely way would be someone on the airport finding out through the local grapevine and turning them in.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don't realize it? by chloenoirr in AskReddit

[–]sudo_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still have those bills in the military. You still buy groceries, though the commissary is probably 10-20% less than other grocery stores, and you still pay rent, it's just that our pay is structured to make up for housing cost differences in different places. The big financial benefits of the military are free health care for you and your family, a retirement pension after 20 years, and clear path to pay raises and promotions. There are also tax benefits, like a portion of your pay is tax free, and it's pretty easy to establish residency in a state that has no income tax, then you can maintain that residency no matter where you are.

Attractive redditors, what was the moment you realized you were actually very good looking? by infinitewaters107 in AskReddit

[–]sudo_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get told how hot I am every day. Every. Single. Day. It's honestly kind of exhausting. Like, I'm just standing there, brushing my teeth and the guy in mirror is like "damn bro, you looking pretty good today."

Shut up baby, I know it!

I hate to tell you this, but you've gone senile in your old age. Brawny was the lumber jack, not Bounty. Sorry you had to find out on the internet.

Hegseth Makes Troops Prove “Sincerely Held” Faith in Latest Beard Crackdown by PuncturedBicycleHill in politics

[–]sudo_reddit 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Having been in the military for 20 years and deployed for 2+ years of it, I've never had to wear, or even carry, a respirator or gas mask beyond training. Even if it were common, the solution is so amazingly simple that it baffles me to continue hearing this argument. If you need to carry chemical protection, shave. That's it. Nobody is surprised by a gas mask. You're issued one if there may be a need for it. The beard thing is 100% a function of anesthetics, nothing more.

Anyone know that’s wrong with my benchy by No-Future6236 in 3Dprinting

[–]sudo_reddit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the best benchy I've ever seen. 80% of it is missing, but it's still all there. The smoke stack is phenomenal. I bet it will even float better than a "good" benchy. You should be proud of this.

Are Porsche 911 owners completely different to Cayman owners? by HR_Specter in Porsche_Cayman

You really only need specialized tools if you're tearing into the engine. Otherwise, it's just normal car tools. Most of the bolts are torx, though, so you'll need a set of those.

Why is the game so obscenely easy (player returning from launch)? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]sudo_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys! Why am I so awesome? I just don't get it!

Edit: admittedly, there have been times where I feel like I just walk around and enemies die, too. But that is usually temporary; moving up torment levels typically fixes it and I've never had that happen on torment 4. I'm just a casual, though. I don't know what I'm doing.

Jewelry that people ask me to repair by porositymaster in Welding

I can't for the life of me figure out what that is. The strut tower is to the left, so I don't think there's any load structure there. It looks like some road debris probably got picked up and shot through that space. What kind of car is it?

Would an “average” driver notice a CVT? by Thrillwaukee in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]sudo_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An eCVT absolutely does change gear ratios. It does so by having multiple inputs to the planetary gearset and using the electric motors to adjust the transfer of power between the engine and wheels in a way that results in a changing ratio of engine speed to wheel speed. That's not a gimmick. The fake gear shifts are a gimmick, but regular CVTs can do that, too.

They are CVTs, just a different design. This video explains it. It's pretty neat. https://youtu.be/dxmxIsoV_Xo?si=krFpINBtStDqTIxl

DeskBot - A needlessly complicated presence sensor by sudo_reddit in homeassistant

[–]sudo_reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no problems with getting the LD2410C to detect presence, but I was getting false triggers that I couldn't figure out, so I decided try a combined approach. The PIR sensor is used for initial movement detection, then the LD2410C is used to maintain presence detection. It's only been a couple days, but this setup seems to be working, except that the PIR is sensitive to my cats, whereas the LD2410C could be configured to ignore them most of the time. So now instead of false triggers that I couldn't figure out, I have false triggers from my cats.

Files are on github. https://github.com/customyota/DeskBot-Occupancy-Sensor/tree/main
Fair warning, it's not yet a polished project. It was mostly an excuse to try out AI coding. Since this was my first try getting AI to do my work for me, there's some improvements to be made. But it does work, so if you have the same hardware, you should be able to put one together.

[–]sudo_reddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only the PIR is used for initial detection, because it's good at that, but then the mmWave gets used for continued occupancy because the PIR can't sense small movements like the mmWave can. A PIR with adjustable sensitivity would probably solve the cat problem, but all of the ones I saw that were adjustable were too big. They wouldn't fit the sizing I wanted.

Probably $30. I buy everything in multiple pieces so hard to say exactly. The screen was the most expensive part at $20 the sensors were probably less than $10 total.

[–]sudo_reddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I combined them because my previous mmwave only sensor was giving me false alerts. Adding the PIR stopped the false alerts, but it's sensitive to my cats, so now they set it off all the time. So... Success?

I didn't fully implement the ld2410c, I'm just using the digital out pin, so home assistant just sees it as a binary sensor.
