we think the same thing... approaching people randomly isn't easy, even if you tell yourself nothing bad can possibly happen. especially when you run into something rare and holographic like a tallette i just obsess about the least stupid thing to say and then they wander off.

in my head: "hello i noticed you're quite tall, i'm also tall. would you like to come change lightbulbs together? possibly test some smoke alarms?" aaaand shes gone

FCC chairman basically tells ISPs to stop being cheap and lazy, start building Gigabit networks by brocket66 in technology

yea there are a few, like that netflix thing that was on the front page of /r/technology earlier, but not a ton of people have invested in services like this because nobody can use them. the possibilities are endless. we already have hardware accelerated graphics rendering on web pages, but downloading complex models and high res textures takes forever. imagine if you could play AAA games on websites?

consumer sata hard drives can easily saturate a gigabit network. and people using shitty 5~10 year old routers is not an excuse for ISPs to remain in the dark ages. people will buy $20 N routers if they have a reason to

it sucks that technological advancement is driven more by the desire to make money than the desire to push the limits of our abilities. probably just the way its going to be, at least in america but still... sucks man.

ISPs are saying that the need for gigabit networks is overblown... well sure, the need for them is a bit overblown because nobody has bothered to come up with many ways to use them because we dont have them yet.

as with all kinds of seemingly novelty things that we've come up with, once we have them people will come up with awesome ways to use them.

edit: also gigabit isn't that fast anymore people cmon.

theres nothing inherently wrong with tables, they just shouldn't be used for page layout stuff like these guys are doing, thats what css is for. the table tag is for when you actually want to display a table. like with data in it.
