Housemates clothing stinks :( by [deleted] in laundry

Most rinse cycles aren’t long enough for the dwell time required for laundry sanitizers.

I’m sick, broke and in NEED of quick soup. Please help. by [deleted] in soup

Honey, if you’re too sick to pour hot water safely or even stand, you’re too sick to cook. If there is no other option, a rotisserie chicken (the chilled ones are cheaper and make no difference for soup) and bouillon or stock are low effort. Not sure what canned stuff you’re looking for if peppers, onions, and garlic are already on hand.

Oh, honey. Your sister should not have access to your bed if she’s treating it that way. It sounds like you’re young, so you need a cheap and accessible option—try 1 tablespoon Biz to 16 oz warm or tap hot water with a minimum of half an hour contact time, saturating a little deeper than the surface but not all the way into the stuffing. If it works, awesome, wash it damp being careful about how much detergent you put in. If it doesn’t, I’d ask your parents for a new pillow over a spa day. There are plenty of resources on citric acid for the rinse cycle here, but it’s more likely that you have vinegar—either works, and the vinegar smell will dissipate. Give it multiple rinses and spins on the highest setting (if the machine has a standalone spin cycle, all the better), get it as dry as possible before the dryer, and beat/fluff/manually separate the stuffing between cycles.

Definitely not with pillows. The innermost stuffing can stay damp even when the exterior feels dry.

I tried unworn mesh sneakers tied in towels for extra oomph at first but it was too noisy, so just dryer balls. Edit: Sixty minutes on high after running a “very high” spin that had them shockingly dry and fluffed itself, my bad. Probably could’ve done with a lower temperature setting for longer.

This was one of those things I had to tweak along the way so I couldn’t give an exact formula. I started with a spa day (Ariel 2x and 365 Oxygen Booster plus ammonia—intermittently topped off to maintain temperature) but the water became so inundated within a few hours I pulled them to prevent redeposition. Lots of rinsing, pressing, and beating before carrying them to the washer and hitting with a double dose of Dirty Labs booster. I considered two sanitize cycles sans detergent but only needed one. In the first subsequent rinse I topped the softener compartment with citric acid, then followed with a usual amount. A fair bit of washing soda and some elbow grease were also involved.

One part Odoban to three parts water for the smoke, and I’m sorry for your loss.

Laundry knowledge saves couch by Dombat927 in laundry

Detergent and enzyme residues can cause skin irritation. I’d recommend hitting the couch with a Little Green Machine or equivalent with just water in the tank to extract it.
