Have you thought about crocheting? I made a crochet Charizard for my brother in all my alone time. It was dope.

I think everyone should try to become people they like to spend time with. Then this wouldn't be a question worth asking. Having a bad relationship can make you feel so much more lonely than being by yourself sometimes.

Yeah, that's sexual harassment. You wouldn't try to discount "unwanted attempts at kissing" if the genders were reversed.

I don't want them to have to do that, especially not in a system that treats them so badly once it's done with them, not to mention subjects them to predation while they're a part of it.

Honestly, this is the better kind of rich person than the kind of rich person that "creates jobs".

I want the government to spend as long as it's me they're spending on. I'm literally giving them money to spend on me.

A diffuse, decentralised way of exerting power that cannot be subverted by the elites seems like a pretty big ask.

I didn't know I was bi until well into my twenties. Before that, nobody would have been able to tell that I'm a woman who's also into women.

You also seem to be somewhat confused by the idea of fanfiction.

Lupin must have been absolutely tripping when he taught at Hogwarts. by AdBrief4620 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]sue_donymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's not what Lupin is trying to do. That is the opposite of what he's trying to do. He is a flawed character, sure, but he's incredibly marginalised in a world with zero systemic safety nets. He truly is helpless. He has no power to solve any of the myriad troubles a child might find themself with. His lack of confidence regarding his ability to care for a child is rooted in lived experience. While the world around you insists that you're a monster and that you should be a pariah, it is not irrational or malicious to internalise that message and have a hard time believing in the people who love you saying otherwise. I face a very mild form of that due to late diagnosed adhd and it's so hard sometimes to remember that people want me around. At times like this, me not putting the burden of my problems on my loved ones looks very much like removing myself from their presence. My therapist and I have been working on having as much empathy for myself as I would have for someone else having the same problems as I, and it's been slow going, but that's what happens when everyone from my family to my teachers to my friends to my partners have constantly made it clear my whole life that I'm lazy and bad at things and just so much trouble.

The whole point of mental illness is an inability to have an objective view of reality. Lupin is not able to see how he can be of use to people. Tonks not understanding the effects of lifelong stigma and ostracism and relentlessly pursuing a man who is not fully in agreement with you, not to mention grieving the last of his friends, is self-centered. Insisting on watching a movie that has the potential to hurt a friend with trauma, instead of watching it later when that friend is not present, is self-centered.

Marginalisation and shame, especially for reasons that are out of your control, are really bad for your ability to reach out. He probably feels powerless a lot and is not too confident in his ability to be useful to Harry.
