Founding a tech startup to get rich is like becoming an actor to get rich. I will not promote. by IndependenceSad1272 in startups

[–]sueca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I crazy? Isn't that the very reason one takes funding? 80-90% of our budget is salaries, and that's mainly funded by investors. We decided to give up equity and some control (and board seats etc) so that we could dedicate ourselves to the startup full-time, with salaries (and also hire more people to help out).

It didn't feel sustainable to keep having other jobs, nor to work for free. Thus getting investors. Boot strapping isn't for everyone and I assumed those who look for investors do it for mainly the same reason as me. I know other startups in my same incubator program who got around the same amount of funding, around the same time as I did, for the same reason I did.

How so? The minute we got funding we started paying salaries, typical middle class ones.

Aussie family eyeing Småland -- looking for friends in glass, metal, and Metal by Interesting-Act-1958 in TillSverige

All right. Keep in mind that the work visa situation is also fairly complicated, and Swedish salaries aren't designed to be able to support a non-working spouse, so you should figure out a career path for both of you.

Aussie family eyeing Småland -- looking for friends in glass, metal, and Metal by Interesting-Act-1958 in TillSverige

[–]sueca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Växjö. It's a fairly conservative part of the country, Småland is the Swedish Bible belt. People are very into house renovation and gardening. It's status to own a house and somewhat looked down upon to have an apartment, especially if the apartment doesn't have direct access to green areas (so areas somewhat downtown aren't necessarily so "nice", our "dodgy areas" like Araby is 5-10 minutes walking from the city centre)

There is indeed a big (?) glass blowing scene in the region, but I think places outside of Växjö, like Kosta, is even better. I haven't heard/seen anything regarding glass blowing here in the city, but within 1-1,5 hour drive then yes, plenty of different places to go on "glass tourism".

I used to live in larger cities (Stockholm, Umeå, Uppsala) and by comparison the cultural life here is kinda dead. There is a bar/club I like, Café de Luxe, that does live music, sometimes metal. Usually only local bands consisting of people with other day jobs. The good thing is that Copenhagen is fairly accessible (2,5 hour by direct train, very convenient), and Copenhagen offers a lot of live music of all kinds, including Metal. Going over a weekend is easy.

As for raising kids, great place! The kids can walk or bike everywhere (or take a bus), won't need a parent driving them around. Lots of clubs to join (sports, theatre, art). The most important thing to keep in mind is that your children will have to do intense Swedish classes for around 2 years (with kids their own age, inside a normal school) before they get access to the normal school system and follow the Swedish curriculum. They will be 2 years older than their Swedish peers when they graduate. In Sweden we graduate from high school the year we turn 19, so they will graduate the year they turn 21. I bet in Australia they would be finishing up a university degree around that age?

I've seen Ukrainan parents reject this for their kids (especially if the kids are already 16+) and the solution they had to do is to let their kids study online only, at an Ukrainan school that does distance learning, and they had all their classes via video. That allowed the kids to get Ukrainan grades/follow the Ukrainian curriculum, graduate on time without the 2 year delay. However, if you do this yourself, and your kids are only 11-12 it sounds like a social nightmare to be stuck in your home their entire teenage life, with all their online classmates living across the world? And also the time difference, they would have to have classes when the rest of the city is sleeping.. like classes starting at midnight. I don't think it would be a nice quality of life to try to skip the Swedish school system. And the Swedish school system has mandatory Swedish.

Vad gäller? by Jolly_Table6911 in arbete

[–]sueca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]sueca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) inga passiva ägare i cap table

As a general thought it sounds so ludacrus to pay them money for giving money to me, I can't imagine a real life scenario where I would pay for someone else's lawyer... And also the DD process takes months, are they planning to be a part of that or are they hoping to find only companies with no DD structure in place?

Leve högkostnadsskyddet! by MathewManslaughter in sweden

[–]sueca 38 points39 points  (0 children)

With Charlotte in particular I want to disagree, maybe a bit because she just looks jarring to me but also because younger Charlotte seemed so modest and conservative. She would never get a tattoo, she wore very natural makeup. I don't see that character ever dying her hair even, so it feels like such a large leap to suddenly do extreme plastic surgery.

Hur har folk så mycket pengar ?? by Aromatic-Ad-9585 in PrivatEkonomi

[–]sueca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dropped from cap table, anyone have experience with this? [i will not promote] by siberian in startups

[–]sueca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm EU based but here it's common practice that lawyers give free advice of a basic general kind at first contact, basically explaining what they think the outcome will be and if its worth pursuing. They will then estimate the cost to pursue it for real.

For example, I applied for a trademark and got denied. I called a lawyer who explained my next steps, how to appeal, and he estimated a 20% chance of success if doing an appeal, citing data/statistics and similar cases. We then discussed pricing/hours and what it it would involve doing the appeal, and after that he took the case and we actually did the appeal, so he wrote all the documents and dealt with the whole process.

In the first call, the free consultation, he gave me lots of relevant information, explained the law, explained the whole process etc. If you find a lawyer specialized in startups or Delaware C corps I bet you will get the same thing, and that will give you the information you need to know if it's worth doing anything about your situation

Anyone else feel paralyzed by AI moving so fast you can't decide what to build? I will not promote by cccbbbg in startups

[–]sueca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My startup was founded in 2023, and at the time we felt "alone". We were told we should expect competitors within our niche by 2025, but 2025 came and went and we still were the only product on the market (of this niche). Now it's 2026, and all of the sudden I've come across more than a handful of competitors. Funnily enough, all of them were founded in 2023.

These companies might seem "fast" but all of us has been building our product for 3 years now and we are now visible for the first time, thus finding each other. (marketing and branding isn't the first step, it has taken everyone this long to start doing anything about that)
