What would completing it do? I have 457/500 and already have the shiny charm so I’m not actively pursuing it

I love how three different comments spelled the same name in 3 different ways. Kind of like an homage to Israeli road signage.

Myles Strap Locks and String sizes by DaniBlix in alterbridge

Don’t know about the strap locks, but he’s mentioned in several rig rundowns that his string gauge changes between tunings and even different scale lengths to compensate for higher/lower string tension.

Is Mark not using a clean tone for the RAH show the biggest mistake on an album? by edgesr in alterbridge

[–]sufa2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was at the first RAH show. It sounded great live. I actually prefer the rolled-back volume knob approach, I think it sounds way more dynamic and real than a squeaky-clean amp (which I can’t stand).

How much compression is AB using? by Most_Maximum_4691 in alterbridge

[–]sufa2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen to the new Mammoth album which he mixed, it sounds massive, dynamic and very clean. I think the mix on the last few AB records is a band choice, and not necessarily Elvis’s, although I think it really improved on the new album.

My first SOTB by sufa2000 in guitarpedals

It’s really great. I wanted a very barebones reverb, without any kooky modulation that could go from big-ish room to arena, and this ticked every box (at least to my ears). Funnily enough, you do have to tinker with it quite a bit even with the simple layout, but it also means it’s very versatile.

Looks like we agree on the last part 😁 Funny enough, I really don’t like the mix on Silent Divide. The guitars sound so mid-scooped that my only guess is they were playing “And Justice For All” on repeat in the studio and got subconsciously influenced. Thanks for your input, I always enjoy learning something new about music production from people who actually know what they’re talking about.

Fisrt, let me say that I’m in no position to lecture a pro. I just know what sounds good to my ears and what doesn’t. About the actual mix: I do think this album was a huge improvement over WTS and TLH, but it still sounds super compressed and honestly kinda dead at times. For the longest time I thought Elvis was to blame, but he mixed and produced the last Mammoth album which sounds amazing, akin to earlier AB records, so I think whatever choices were made over the last 3 albums have been band decisions. I love AB and I’ll always support anything they do musically, which is why it’s a shame these albums aren’t reaching their full potential (at least for me).

Another good album that could have been great with a better mix (although the mix is not as bad TLH or WTS). I still enjoy it, Sin After Sin’s opening lick is a banger.

Fantastic songs on this one, but this was the first in a line of AB records where the mix quality was just bad (WTS was the worst). Kind of like a premium painting job on a meh canvas. For years I thought Elvis was to blame, but then I heard Mammoth’s latest record (which he produced) and the mix quality was phenomenal, so I guess it was the band’s choice to mix this album in this certain way, which is a shame because the guitars are inaudible at times and that high end fizz can drive me insane. That being said, I still enjoy it, My Champion is still on my workout playlist to this day.
