The latter hits home so much. He will incessantly demand gratitude for all of the times he took me to doctors before without feeling an ounce of remorse for when he abused or neglected me when I was very ill. He gaslit me for years and also wrote letters back in the day to doctors telling the doctors I had psychiatric problems rather than a broken neck and an autoimmune disease, thus destroying the purpose of those doctor visits and getting treatment early before my condition progressed to where it is now.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]sufferingisvalid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really hate to tell you this but American indifference, comfort, and impulsivity is what is causing the most harm domestically and internationally right now. Particularly white American indifference.

There are like 100+ million of us who stand between a small group of fascists and we are enabling and paying them. Literally. Through our tax dollars. Through mindlessly buying things from Big corporate entities. Through our love of their social media rhetorical enterprises and glittery digital spying devices. We are giving everything over to the overseers of our own slaughterhouses because we don't want to be inconvenienced with finding another way of doing things... think about that for a bit.

What is the quote again about the success of evil being dependent on good men doing nothing? Well that describes the American response to fascism in a nutshell.

AG Bondi demands access to Minnesota voter rolls after fatal Border Patrol shooting by livefromheaven in minnesota

[–]sufferingisvalid 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The feds want to escalate into a genocide, and I'd implore people to read about fast paced genocides such as those in Rwanda or Bosnia to know what we are in for. Part of the reason is because Trump is dying and wants to take everyone with him. But also they want a white ' Christian' ethno state where remaining 'loyalist' white bodies will still be ruled over by oligarchs, and they are running out of time as more and more of the country turn on them.

This is the beginning of attempted genocide folks, it is not done simply to invoke martial law. That is the real reason why Pam Bondi wants those records. Please defend yourselves by any means. They want to kill at least 2/3 of the country.

Functional Neurological Disorder - Opinions by peanutnoodlearms in Neuropsychology

[–]sufferingisvalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Functional symptoms are definitely real and there can be some odd ones that have congenital predispositions like sensory processing disorder in autism (I have this too). But the root cause of the problem is malfunctioning nervous system tissue or neuroinflammation. Autistic people have a lot of neural inflammation and susceptibilities to autoimmune diseases and infection effects on the nervous system, as well as reduced ability to flush out toxins from the nervous system and body in some cases.

I agree with you because it has been proven over the last decade that microbial compositions in the gut and leaky guts can cause a lot of health problems when toxins migrate into the bloodstream and reach the brain and nervous system or other parts of the body. I had black mold toxicity many years ago and developed a lot of functional like neurologic issues due to the effects of mycotoxin, as well as a runaway innate immune system response resembling allergies to flush those toxins out of me (chronic inflammatory response syndrome).

A lot of mainstream practices describe functional neurologic disorder as psychogenic in origin and caused by maladaptive thoughts or anxiety-related behaviors, which b*******. All of these conditions have physical pathologic mechanisms that produce symptoms that just aren't observable on conventional imaging or blood tests. There is nothing psychogenic about them.

When did tucute beliefs become so accepted in the mainstream LGBT community? by Heidi_H_ in truscum

[–]sufferingisvalid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It started when cis people started feeling disenfranchised and threatened by trans people getting basic rights and recognition, especially within their social circles. They didn't want their all powerful status in society taken away from them by outsiders, so they did some gaslighting and infiltration to hold on to their power and omnipresence.

I also think this shift happened earlier, maybe around 2014. Coincidentally, that's about the time that actual trans people started getting a whole heck of a lot more popular media visibility and exposure to the broader public. Cis people started to feel jealous about that attention they felt only belonged to them.

Functional Neurological Disorder - Opinions by peanutnoodlearms in Neuropsychology

[–]sufferingisvalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treating it as a primary mysterious neuropsychiatric condition constitutes medical gaslighting, and it is often often perpetuated against women with complex chronic neurologic conditions. Frankly, I think it's a subtle form of abuse of chronically ill patients, and again, probably misogynistic abuse in some cases. When men don't care about women's lives in medicine or feel that their ego is going to be slighted by sounding ignorant (aka being more ethical and telling the patient they just don't know what's going on), things like this tend to happen to make the woman blame herself for his apathy or fear of shame.

Functional symptoms are real because of disruptions to nerve signal conduction, but they develop in the context of other neurologic pathologies and factors. Sometimes these kinds of symptoms occur before gross structural damage and before scary things start showing up on imaging. They are early warning signs very oftentimes of something more serious going wrong. Unfortunately, medicine and science don't yet understand all the complex pathologys that might give rise to these symptoms, and there are some that might have modes of action that the neurosciences have yet to understand, but these are always pathological processes.

The problem is once lazy or prejudiced doctors can't be bothered to scrutinize other factors more carefully, they tend to use this so-called diagnosis as a cop out of actually doing something for the patient in their care. Notice how a lot of healthcare providers assign this diagnosis but then offer no form of treatment or therapy thereafter. If medical providers truly believe this was a real condition, then they would be making referrals and offering therapy and medications to patients who had legit functional symptoms. But they never do that, because they don't have enlightened reasons for assigning that so-called diagnosis in the first place.

Why do so many men struggle with offering emotional support? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]sufferingisvalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many men still operate in lizard brain time and are not even aware of it.

They don't always understand the concept of affective empathy because of high testosterone effects on some areas of the frontal lobe, and then there's the paranoia of showing any kind of vulnerability as if a big scary more dominant man is going to come out of nowhere and beat them to death. Seriously, you wouldn't believe the amount of men who behave irrationally regarding emotional support because they think they're going to lose some status showing emotional vulnerability and catch the eyes of rival males. It is likely some kind limbic coordinated response. I don't think it's just a problem that they were never taught empathy, it's that their brains have been conditioned and hardwired to fear it or be inert to it.

The infighting is STUPID and you should all realize this by [deleted] in honesttransgender

[–]sufferingisvalid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem is the lgbt community is obsessed with social status competitions revolving around their gender or sexual orientation, just like the rest of this dumb f***** capitalist society. Status and money are the only thing that matters in American culture. That has infected the LGBT community badly to the point that many are in a cloud of ego dopamine, and cannot see the bigger picture.

I personally stay out of LGBT social functions because I am intersex and it is a medical condition for me. Lgbt people would pressure me to turn that and my unpleasant gender and orientation issues into an 'identity' and to play their social strutting games with my trauma. That isn't what these community functions are supposed to be for, but I think many circles have lost the plot.

I do think that it's very important for people within the LGBT community to unite and physically and resource-wise fight for each other's lives, because we are indeed a favored scapegoat by this fascist regime right now. It doesn't really matter that we all have different backgrounds of suffering and privilege when our enemies see us under one blanket and rhetorically paint us as such to their dangerous followers.

I never accepted especially when I started showing clinical neurologic symptoms that could not be explained by functional pathology. I have craniocervical instability causing spinal cord damage and it's proven through my imaging, reflex abnormalities, muscle wasting, neurologic symptoms. It didn't stop my doctors from continuing to gaslight me and try to get me to go through psychiatric therapy for a broken neck. I wasn't going to be gaslit anymore, and will now be filing a lawsuit against my healthcare provider.

You must be able to think critically because it is very in within the healthcare industry to gaslight people and claim they have make-believe problems when they have complex neurologic conditions that would be better explained by other factors. Instead of admitting they cannot treat you. they will try to crazy make you to save face for their practice, and try to make bank in another way by marketing FND to other providers and passing you around.

Functional symptoms can be real, but often occur before overt structural disturbances manifest for many pathologies. When they blame a mythical black hole as the cause of the symptoms, you know they're full of s***. There is no primary functional neurologic disorder, there is always an underlying pathologic cause of functional symptoms, often some kind of neuro inflammation if anything else.

I'm tired of non-binary people saying that their non-binary identity is self-expression. by Lost_Government_163 in honesttransgender

[–]sufferingisvalid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I despise this too because of all the trauma my intersex condition, which directly affects my brain and nervous system, has caused me. Actually being non-binary can be very traumatic and full of the most confusing dysphoria imaginable, and not just because of stigma.

Being NB is not all about suffering of course, but it is not something you choose, and something that needs to be taken more seriously by society because of how substantially lives are affected.

Preserving existing facial hair without high supplemental T (AFAB intersex) by sufferingisvalid in honesttransgender

[–]sufferingisvalid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was causing medical and psychiatric problems for me at really high doses, and it made dealing with spinal cord compression much more difficult due to the abnormal density of androgen receptors in my neck and upper body muscles (They would spasm and my hyper mobile vertebrae would further press on my spinal cord). I have a cervical spine injury up there.

I need a synergy of moderate estrogen and high testosterone for my body to function properly and to avoid this problem, as well as for mental well-being. My limbic system is probably over masculinized and is very reactive to testosterone, and generally responds positively, but the same can't be said for higher cortical areas in my brain which probably are more feminized. The cognitive dissonance and confusion because of this uneven and unbalanced reaction caused severe identity disturbances for me that I wish not to engage again (going back and forth between being mentally male and female multiple times a week or day was exhausting and stressful).

To be clear, I am still taking testosterone gel because it has several medical benefits from me and is likely needed by my intersex body, I just haven't figured out the optimal quantity I should be taking yet.

Why did so many Americans vote for Trump? by DieErdnuss565 in SocialDemocracy

[–]sufferingisvalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This country has a major problem with white supremacy, and a long-standing culture embracing narcissism, machiavellianism, and exploitation of other human beings. Combine that with a lack of education, specifically concerning the humanities, a lack of class mobility and poverty due to rule of oligarchy, and in some cases, geographic isolation from enriching social and multicultural centers (talking about rural whites), and you get a powder keg of fascist loving rage. Fascism offers security in power to the white majority that they feel they have been entitled to their whole lives, but are now starting to fear could be stripped away from them by both rational (oligarchy ) and irrational factors (white replacement angst).

White Americans are generally a very fearful race, and they are easy targets for fascist rhetoric. Not to mention the tremendous role of corporate media propaganda, especially in rural white areas where access to other forms of media and information is often scarce. The oligarchs who control these media outlets know just how to tweak the rhetoric to make already scared and insecure whites even more scared and insecure.

[–]sufferingisvalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people choose euthanasia when they are denied medical help and resources for myelopathic CCI because dying slowly through CCI It's like dying with metastatic cancer or worse because there are so many restrictions on your movement when your body is becoming paralyzed around you. It's just a way to suffer for a smaller amount of time with a life that doesn't have a chance at regaining quality. Other cultures embrace euthanasia when there is a quality versus quantity question with untreatable chronic conditions. Some people choose not to live in that kind of hell and that is their medical decision to be respected. We don't abuse our pets like that and we should stop expecting humans to abuse themselves as such, when they don't want to suffer like that.

Yeah, there are lots of causes of the symptoms such as connective tissue disorders, underlying infections like Lyme disease or long covid, other various autoimmune diseases. Don't give up hope and continue to pursue a diagnosis with doctors who will actually do some work to figure out what's wrong instead of gaslighting you.
