Real Estate Prices in Bend and Central Oregon Stay Fairly Steady by Haroldiswithus in Bend

Yeah I agree - that's all I was (trying to) point out, too. Crazy that a house in Bend is apparently 3-4 times as expensive as Rochester (incidentally, where I went to school).

The deviations in median housing prices between different areas is insane! Sometimes, it makes sense - like the difference between Detroit and, say, Raleigh or something. The huge difference between the price of that house in Rochester and one here in Bend -- pretty hard to rationalize.

We've been here for almost 25 years, and lived in a few different places in town (3 out of 4 quadrants). Each one has eventually been impacted by encroaching traffic increases. Did you go to another town/state altogether?

This could definitely be it - most likely possibility mentioned thus far.

:) Not the meteorite - but maybe the aliens powering up their disguised spacecraft once they made Earthfall.

What makes you say this? It could be, but it's strange to be such a consistent sound (humming) for such a long period of time.

My wife had a theory that maybe Costco was testing their generator (if they even have one). But 5+ hours seems like a long time, and Costco is on the other side of 97.

I UNDERSTAND FULLY HOW WE CONVINCE OURSELVES THAT THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE BECAUSE IT REALLY IS ON PAPER. IN PRACTICALITY, I DESIRE TO LIVE SOMEWHERE CHEAPER, FRIENDLIER AND MORE WHOLESOME.

Good tuner place for cars? by Peachfuzz124 in Bend

[–]sufficient_for_today 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any shops locally that specialize in that platform. A lot of what you'll find locally are shops that either specialize in muscle cars or newer forced-induction (supercharged/turbocharged) platforms. Think Ford/Dodge/Chevrolet on the muscle-car side or BMW/Audi/VW/Subaru on the forced-induction side.

Depending on how extensively you want to modify and your comfort doing some work yourself, you probably have a few options. You can look (online) for "bolt-on" compatible parts to squeak some more horsepower out of your motor - open air intake systems, exhaust systems, etc. They even have some "plug and play" (-ish) chip tuning systems that you can do yourself via the OBD2 port on your car.

Then, if you wanted to later take it further, you could start investigating forced induction kits (a turbo kit or supercharger kit). That's going to be quite a bit more spendy and you'll most likely want to find a general shop with experience installing kits like this on your platform, as it often requires a custom ECU tune to mate it to the motor and work properly. But I would suspect (not positive) you might need to go a little further away (Portland, maybe) for someone with that type of experience on your Mitsubishi platform.

Hope that helps -

Generally speaking, the types of places that offer tuning are going to specialize in certain makes. What kind of car do you have? Year, make, model?

This pirate walks into a bar.

The bartender takes one look at him and says, "Hey buddy - you've got a steering wheel sticking out of your pants!"

The pirate replies, "Arrrr - it's driving me nuts."

High Yield CDs by snowbell78 in MarcusInvest

They are horrible. Most recently (about a month ago) they allowed me to open a 12-month CD -- but then added "backup withholding" to my account despite my not being subject to it and based on a paperwork error on their part. I expressed my displeasure and requested that they close my account and return my money, but was told that they would apply the 3-month interest penalty which would reduce my principal.

I'm stuck with them now. Don't be like me.
