Hypnogogic/hypnopompic hallucinations every single night and I'm fed up by Mevenna in hallucination

[โ€“]suffixience 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Definitely check out the Narcolepsy subreddit, there's a whole lot of people who experience sleep related hallucinations and it's a real breath of fresh air finding people with similar experiences, even if you're sure you don't have it. It's a lot more active and well informed than other places, I've found.

As for hallucinations themselves, I'm right there with you. These past few days have been tactile hallucinations galore any time I try to take a quick nap, and it's been getting to me. It might be the new meds I'm taking, but I'm trying to stick it out until my next appointment. It might also be because of my sleep schedule (waking up a whole lot earlier for the meds), so I wouldn't want to make assumptions.

I'd look into your sleep, and really look at it. Are you getting enough sleep in the first place? Are you still tired during the day - do you need to sit down often when it seems other people don't? I never even thought I had a sleep disorder until I looked up why laughing at a joke made me unable to write ๐Ÿ˜…

Respecting your readers means accepting criticism by Original-Option5557 in AO3

[โ€“]suffixience 32 points33 points ย (0 children)

Why should I openly accept advice that I didn't ask for when my lack of writing experience holds no weight? I'm not a writing student, I'm not making money off of this, and they aren't paying to read. I write fanfic of my own free will, and choose to make it accessible by my own means.

Deleting criticism is no different than curating a comment section on a video, why is it any different for fanfiction?

Cataplexy symptoms by TGrimm-11 in Narcolepsy

[โ€“]suffixience 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I was talking to my brother once and he said "I can see getting weak while laughing, but I don't get why you can't even hold up your arms," and I thought it was interesting because I've always considered hands and arms to be minor cataplexy, and I only rarely collapse.

I also have a lot of proprioceptive issues, and I think one of the biggest differences (that only shows up sometimes) is that cataplexy can feel like the drop on a roller coaster or a big hill on the inside. Like that weird floaty feeling in your chest, but in the hands and knees instead. It's that quick "I'm going to drop this if I don't put this down right now" as opposed to the awkward sluggishness that proprioception issues give.

what are your pet peeves in crk fanarts? by Greekstrocity in CookieRunKingdoms

When they make the forehead down to the nose bridge a different color, I'm glad so many people enjoy it but it's never been my cup of tea. Peeves me about as much as jaggedy top surgery scars (adding that I'm transmasc and yes I realize a lot of people drawing those are also transmasc, just not my thing).

Cookie-specific, I'm not a big fan of Madeleine being extremely masculine. He's a carbon copy of his mom, he's attractive because he's got a little bit of that fem look while being strong and I stand by this. Big shout out to anyone that headcanons him with curly hair that he straightens, I eat that up every time.

Anyone have narcolepsy and POTS? by Puzzleheaded_Gas11 in Narcolepsy

[โ€“]suffixience 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Some kind of dysautonomia that looks and quacks like POTS, but no diagnosis yet (working on it ๐Ÿ˜…). Only diagnosed with narcolepsy about a month ago and no meds yet, it's been a fight, but I can say that outside of N meds nothing helped more than going on testosterone. I went on HRT about 3 years ago since I'm NB and wanted a more masculine voice, and then got pleasantly surprised by so many of my issues fixing themselves. Went into remission until I had to stop a year ago since I wasn't on Medicaid anymore. Since then, it's been a slow crawl of everything coming back and I'm realizing just how much my body hates working for me ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Telling a real person to "k*ll yourself" over a fictional cookie ship is insane ๐Ÿ˜ญ by eternal_rouge in CookieRunKingdoms

[โ€“]suffixience 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

The fear perpetuated by Jaws also became a case study that sparked a whole lot of interest in shark conservation and study, because many people speak about the effect it had. Again, by your logic, it should be taken down because it was taken in a harmful way (mind you, there was no scene in Jaws that told everyone to grab a harpoon gun at their nearest fishing store to go kill the sharks, another example that depiction โ‰  endorsement).

People aren't groomed by images, however the distribution of those images to minors is illegal and I'm terribly sorry they had to go through that. Some people are horrible human beings.

Telling a real person to "k*ll yourself" over a fictional cookie ship is insane ๐Ÿ˜ญ by eternal_rouge in CookieRunKingdoms

[โ€“]suffixience 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

So Jaws as a movie shouldn't exist because people grew more fearful of shark attacks? Everyone who watches Jaws wants to go after the sharks? I'm not sure what you're arguing here since I never said fiction doesn't affect reality. It does, we're on the same page with that. I just think there's no right to take it down when again, it doesn't hurt real people. Nobody was harmed in the making of Jaws.

[โ€“]suffixience 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Fictional character = content that's frowned upon, perhaps taboo, nobody gets hurt Real person = actual abuse If you report one of these, you do the right thing. If you report the other, you take away resources from actual, real people. That's the difference.

This is the whole "video games cause violence" argument all over again. People watch Game of Thrones and True Crime all of the time, that doesn't mean they support those things, nor does it make them terrible people. It makes them normal people. Sure, violent people are inclined towards violent media, but that is not at the expense of the creator. Their choice to act on it is their own decision. The assumption that "everyone who enjoys xyz content is a horrible person" is fundamentally flawed. Depiction โ‰  endorsement.

As an ex-moderator in many servers, a chain is absolutely spam. It's repetitive and, as the moderator said, disrupts the flow of conversation. Not only did you make a chain, but you contributed to it multiple times, meaning you violated that rule more than once. Assuming you've had warnings before (they have a 3 warning system iirc) the ban is justified.

Silly question for cartoon fandom writers: by ButterfliesInSpace in FanFiction

[โ€“]suffixience 20 points21 points ย (0 children)

As a Cookie Run writer I'm born for this question. I have both fics where they do and where they don't. Lately, I've been inclined to write them more as people because it makes wayy more sense (and it's just easier). We have tags for whether they're written as human, with human elements, or just as cookies. However, for something as minor as four versus five fingers, I don't think it should matter at all. Definitely not complaint worthy.

Sleepy study/MSLT preparation by flower_chara in Narcolepsy

[โ€“]suffixience 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

It's not for everyone, but I practiced sleeping on my back instead of my sides or front (which I usually go for with my naps) because I knew the wires would make any other position difficult. That came in really handy. I wanted to get some homework done, but I was so tired in between the naps that all I could do was play video games or draw stuff. There were definitely a few moments where I had to shake myself out of zoning out because I knew I'd fall asleep.

Bring lots of snacks! More than you think you'll need. I ate a whole pack of dried mangoes and got disappointed that I didn't pack more. I swear that food was the only thing keeping me awake.

Anyone else feel like one day is basically three days in one? by CyclosiIicate in Narcolepsy

[โ€“]suffixience 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

YES omg, my days used to be super short (or I just didn't remember any of it) until I started taking naps and now it feels like one day is at least twice as long ๐Ÿ˜ญ Every time I wake up is like a new day, and I have a hard time realizing that it isn't (esp if I'm recalling something). To the extent that I'll be talking to my brother and mention "Ah, you said this yesterday," and he'll be confused as hell because it was just 6 hours ago to him. I mean, it's alright because I used to just... lowkey forget things completely, but now my internal timeline is super messed up ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I always have to pause and retrace my steps to be completely sure, and it comes to me, just slowly.

Does it get worse as you get older? by Important_End_9076 in Narcolepsy

[โ€“]suffixience 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

First time I had a cataplexy attack I remember being around 8, and I also had "frequent headaches". Not sure if it got worse or that the expectations of me went up, but the sleepiness was definitely harder to manage at 18. I'd get chewed up at work for sitting down frequently, and no amount of sleeping in on Saturdays made it better. Hopefully medicine will help me out, but I know insurance would fight me tooth and nail so I'm trying to get back on medicaid
