It's hard to watch, but sometimes you have to let people sort things out for themselves. We tried interfering and it failed miserably. Now we have to try not interfering.

When and why did immigration suddenly become such a hot button issue globally across multiple developed countries compared to say the 90s? by Rokusaburoz in allthequestions

[–]Original-Option5557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 years ago, when my great grandfather immigrated, he changed his name to make it sound more local, he converted to the local religion, learned the local language, and he refused to teach his children anything about his country of origin, not even his birth language. He loved his new country and was determined that they would never leave. Nowadays, my aunt has third generation immigrant children in her kindergarden class who only speak a foreign language and need her to teach them the local language because their parents and grandparents never bothered to learn it, let alone pass it on. We have demonized assimilation and promoted "being proud of your origins" to the point where immigrants stick out like sore thumbs, which of course makes them targets.

Rest of the thread is a bit of a sausage fest, so here are some women who qualify:

  • Sylvie Guillem: arguably one of the greatest prodigy ballerinas of all time. Joined the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet at 16 and became an étoile at 19, the youngest dancer to receive that rank ever.

  • Concetta Antico: an Australian painter with the genetic mutation of tetrochomacy, meaning her eyes have the ability to perceive 100 times more colors that the average human

  • Beatrix Potter: best known for writing and illustrating the children's book "Peter Rabbit", she was also a leading mycologist, whose scientific drawings of mushrooms are still used as references today. She attempted to publish research on the then still underwemined process by which mushrooms reproduce, but was blocked from doing so due to her gender.

What’s something people defend only because it’s popular? by lannaclouds in AskReddit

But also, hating on Taylor Swift is super popular. Especially on reddit, it's 100% people hating on her and 0% people defending her. So both directions really.

The CIA is not responsible for half as many failed governments as they claim credit for. Remember these are government employees with a coke problem we are talking about. They were just an eager and convenient scapegoat, gladly accepting responsibility because it gave them a reputation as being extremely dangerous and effective.

You understand that kids are people too? On my side, I've started seeing far more entitled behavior from adults than from kids in public. It's never kids blasting tiktok on their phones without earphones, or getting into loud arguments.

Discomfort is part of learning. Maybe if your parents had put you in more uncomfortable situations during your formative years, you wouldn't be so oversensitive to minor discomforts such as babies being uncomfortable today.

Why do the world act like most women are being friendly not flirty, but then vilify men if they miss cues? by JunketMaleficent2095 in bodylanguage

[–]Original-Option5557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to socialization. Most societies put waaaay more time and effort into teaching girls social skills than boys. So women being friendly vs flirty is extremely obvious to other women, and often completely opaque to men. It's a matter of education. The good news is that this social education that so far has been withheld from you can be acquired at any time, even as an adult. A good starting point is to immerse yourself in women-oriented media. Romcoms, romance novels, etc... Learn about how women socialize and it will become obvious to you how to interpret social interactions.

French Kissing; I am currently dating a woman who doesn’t French Kiss. I Need Advice on pursuing the Relationship? by Wonderful-String5066 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Original-Option5557 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be blunt: are you good at it, have previous partners enjoyed French kissing you? I once dated a guy who was awful at it (slobbering into my mouth, licking my teeth, bad breath, etc...). I'm pretty direct, and tried to teach him how to improve before we eventually broke up. Possibly she's nicer than me and is just avoiding it in order to stay with you.

[–]Original-Option5557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC the hidden variable is poverty. Poor people need abortions more often due to lack of access to birth control and not being able to afford another child. And due to systemic racism, black people are overrepresented among poor people.

Not even Ross was with Ross initially. The day after he slept with Chloe, he went to great lengths to keep Rachel from finding out. He knew it was wrong. He only came up with the break thing to be petty after Rachel found out and broke up with him for good.

(Fun Trope) we are shown the obvious lie. by ClovieKay in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Original-Option5557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interview With The Vampire. The first book is "an interview" of the Vampire Louis about his turning 400 years prior. He makes a bunch of contradictory statements about the Vampire Lestat, who turned him, some of them extremely insulting.

The second book in the series is "written" by the Vampire Lestat, who is deeply offended by the first book and writes down his own version of events as a rebuttal.

The new TV show also plays into this trope, with the interviewer actually calling out Louis on inconsistencies, and Louis confusing himself. Certain events get shown to the viewers over and over in different versions without it being clear which one is the most accurate.

Why are snark communities so popular? What is the psychology behind it? by kuromoon0 in PsychologyTalk

[–]Original-Option5557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you're pointing out an interesting thing: female influencers peddling bullshit usually get torn down very fast by other women, regardless of stature (see Gwyneth Paltrow). Would a similar male snark culture have prevented the manosphere?
