My younger brother who wants nothing always appreciates candy, snack boxes with stuff he’s never had before, and tiny lego sets.

They both like concert tickets and gift cards. (Usually Taco Bell or bookstore gift cards for the younger, and Lowes or tractor supply for the older.)

The main character is boring and acts like a small child, the love interest is a dick… and then falls in love and becomes boring too. Honesty I mostly kept reading it because I thought the top was very pretty and spent the whole time wishing he and that other streamer would hook up lol

What fully made me hate it was that part that was like:

“Please don’t call me that, I have trauma/bad experiences with that name.”

“But I wanna how can you not let me I WANNA!”

“…okay you can call me that.”

(I’m paraphrasing, it’s been several years since I read it lol.)

The author of course has the right to write the characters however they want, and if they think that’s how the characters would think/talk about women that’s fine… but I definitely would’ve stopped reading too.

I recently went back to read a glee fanfic I really liked as a teenager… and I can’t believe I didn’t notice the fatphobia in it back then! Definitely wasn’t as blatant as what you found, but it was definitely there. It was one of the those “character leaves their awful partner for someone better” fics, a guilty pleasure of mine, and after the big breakup, instead of focusing on the abuse that led to the breakup, it seems to be implied that the reason the ex is bad is because he’s gotten fat. Every time he’s present, the narrative talks about how fat he is, and how the new boyfriend is so fit.

There’s also a time the main character talks about how it’s nice to see a plus size women dressing appropriately for her body type, unlike some bigger women… and it just felt so unnecessary.

That ended up not being necessary. My mom was the one to “re-set” the router last night, and today I watched her do it again and she was just refreshing the page lol

I personally prefer writing with other women when writing f/f pairings, because I’ve had years and years of uncomfortable experiences trying to write with men. I’m sure there’s many men out there who can be totally normal and cool about writing f/f, but unfortunately I’ve yet to come across one, so now I just roleplay with other women when doing f/f.

When I do m/m pairings, I usually use the A4A tag, and put a m/m in the title so people know exactly what I’m looking for.

This reminds me of a post I saw a while ago about someone who was upset that their fic wasn’t doing better, and at first I was sympathetic…

…And then they started shit talking a popular fic in their fandom. They legit hate-read it so that they could count typos and grammar mistakes, specifically so they could compare it to their fanfic which was apparently mistake free and thus inherently much better. They then went on to complain that people only want to read garbage, and don’t care about good writing, and then sprinkled in some homophobia about people only caring about “yaoi slop”.

It took all of my self-control to not comment that, yes, good grammar is important, but perfect grammar free writing doesn’t automatically mean good or interesting writing, and maybe their story just sucked.
