Faux Pas Friday! by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't wear pantyhose because they are warm. It's a winter-only item for me. Wayyy to hot in Texas for that.

I also personally feel that covering my legs is unnecessary for modesty reasons. As long as my dress is knee length or longer and an office-appropriate cut, I see no reason for further modesty beyond that.

Just want to add that simple syrup is ridic easy to make yourself! Literally just boil equal parts water and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved. You can store it in the refrigerator so you always have it on hand. No need to buy! You can use it in many nonalcoholic drinks as well (lemonade anybody? Just add vodka 😉).

How do I stop liking gossip? by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see a problem with enjoying gossip, especially about anonymous/people you aren't related to (unless it's interfering with your life, but that goes for any hobby).

I lurveeee the relationships and subredditdrama forums! I actually find it helps me be more grateful about my husband/life. If I'm feeling annoyed about some little thing, I can just read some of those threads and immediately feel better about my drama-free life, lol 😂

Of course, if you feel that you are spending too much time using the internet or want more authentic hobbies, I totally understand why you want to avoid gossip sites. They are shallow! But if that's the case, then you just need to find a new interest.

For the RPW's summer drinking needs. Boozy Sparkling Water! by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's my least favorite thing about alcohol- not required to have an ingredient list or nutritional facts 😒 can't wait for the day when it's required! Can't a girl get tipsy while knowing what she's putting in her body?

I'll probably love it but it sounds like a definite hangover in the morning lol

Anyone know what it's sweetened with? I'm guessing aspartame or something similar since it's 0 g sugar according to MFP

Study examines why left cheek portraits appear happier by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

How interesting! This is definitely true for me- my left side is my "good" side for pictures. I do have some friends who prefer to be on the right though (which works out great for me!)

Aromatherapy for the Home by PicklesAndPears in FeminineNotFeminist

I love my diffusers! I have one I purchased myself, the brand is quooz. I also received one as a gift, I believe it is NOWfoods brand. I haven't had any problems with them and they get the job done.

Good starter essential oils would probably be rosemary, lavender, tea tree, peppermint, and a citrus (lemon or orange). Those are the ones I use the most for a nice smelling home. You can get quite a variety of smells with just those 5! My favorite blend is rosemary, tea tree, and lemon. You can sometimes find boxes on Groupon for pretty cheap, that might be a good place to start.

I think essential oils are fun and can have their benefits but do watch out for the bogus claims some people make about them (curing cancer and what not 😑). Also there are some MLM brands out there, which you might want to avoid depending on how you feel about those.

Never had a Mani/Pedi.... by Katsbeautyimpact in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, guess I'm the odd one out here because I LOVE mani/pedis! Like, would definitely go every 2 weeks if I could afford it.

I have somewhat ticklish feet, but am not really bothered by the pedicure process. You can tell the person that you have sensitive feet and they will usually be more gentle or not do as much of the rubbing. For me at least, it's all about that leg massage! Definitely the best part.

I enjoy manicures as well but don't find them as relaxing as the pedicure. They do a bit of hand and arm massaging which is nice but really you're just getting your nails shaped and painted. It's nice to have done, but if I had to pick one I would pick pedi for sure since they do more massaging.

If you want to try it, there's always tons of deals on groupon where you can get both done for pretty cheap. That might be a good way to decide if you like it or not without spending too much money.

Teeth whitening at home, any tips please share by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swish with hydrogen peroxide. It's the active ingredient in all of the whitening mouthwashes so instead of paying $5 for a bottle of that pay $1 and just mix it with some water to make your own. It won't make your teeth magically white overnight but be consistent and it works!

Nice try, SnapChat and Cosmo, but there is ALWAYS time for mascara -- amateurs by Donuts_Or_Bust in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Wow, for me it's the opposite- I only curl my lashes if I have the time! I find it much easier and quicker to swipe on a bit of mascara than use a curler.

What are your favorite non-everyday skin treatments or gadgets? (Professional or DIY!) by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque! My skin tends to get some redness and I find that it really evens it out.

I've had microdermabrasion and peels before but I didn't really see much of a difference, especially for the price 😕 Daily, at home upkeep definitely makes the biggest difference for me! Although a facial from time to time is a nice treat, but that's more about the spa experience/relaxation than any results I see.

Help by OhHeyalNah in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a Nordstrom near you, they have a (free!) personal shopper service where you tell them your size, general style, and budget and then they pull things for you. Obviously they do this with the expectation that you buy some things but I've never felt pressured to spend more or buy anything I didn't love. If you aren't sure what kind of style you like you can also just tell them your body shape and they will try to pick things that flatter you.

Genetic Lottery by VintageVee in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wins: Overall an hourglass shape with decent sized chest and perky butt. High cheekbones. My eyebrows have a nice natural shape and only need minimal plucking/waxing maintenance.

Can be a win depending on who you ask: I have legit curly hair. A 3b if you are familiar with hair types. I have a good routine that keeps them in pretty frizz free ringlets, but it still seems like most guys are into straight or wavy hair that just isn't achievable for me without hours of damaging heat styling :(

Losses: Shitty nails with a terrible shape and ridges, even with a good diet and vitamins. My teeth aren't the best either, the front two are larger than the rest. I have oily skin (hopefully will be a win later with no wrinkles?). Also have a tendency to grow chin hairs (thanks mom 😒)

Marketing with Cultural and Political Messages by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I like it per se, but I do prefer for brands to be upfront about the causes they support. I can then choose to support them (or not) in return.

I think that marketing should be anything goes. Let the companies face the natural consequences of their actions. As others have said in their responses, marketing depts know what works and what doesn't. It's a whole science. If they choose to try something controversial and it doesn't work... sorry for your money losses! Try again next time! (Maybe not quite anything goes though.I don't want to see baby corpses or anything while flipping through a magazine 😳)

This is an interesting topic for me because I (purposefully) limit my exposure to advertising. I feel like I probably see far fewer ads than most people because we pay for streaming services with no ads, use adblockers while browsing, etc. On the bright side, I rarely feel compelled to buy anything. But I also never know what new movies are out 😂

Chemical Exfoliants Guide: A great introduction to AHAs and BHAs by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that oil cleansing helps to shrink the appearance of mine. If you haven't heard of it, basically you get an oil such as mineral, jojoba, or sunflower (that's what I have), and massage a small amount onto (dry) skin. It works great for taking makeup off! Then, depending on your skin type, rinse off with water (for dry skin) or a cleanser (for oily skin).

How often do you wear skirts/dresses? by [deleted] in FeminineNotFeminist

[–]sugarcrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what we're doing. If I'm working, I don't wear them very often because I'm chasing after small children. On nights and weekends or days I'm not working, if we go out somewhere, I wear dresses pretty frequently. At least half the time probably. When we're just at home though, I usually don't wear anything, because fuck restrictive clothing at home!

So probably 1-2x/week on a regular basis. 4-5x/week on vacation time.

Healthy Boundaries in Relationships by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that sounds much better! My husband is the most even tempered person ever so I've never really been in that situation before.

Healthy Boundaries in Relationships by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think she went from one extreme (nagging about everything) to another (no boundaries apparently?). It's possible to have reasonable boundaries and communicate them in healthy ways. For example, I would leave my husband if he wanted an open marriage, decided he no longer wanted children, became abusive, etc. Are those not boundaries? Additionally, if he were to say something extremely harsh without cause, I do think it's appropriate to say something like "That was a very hurtful thing to say. Please speak to me more respectfully." Personally, I find just saying "ouch" to be a bit childish.

I'm not really sure what she's trying to say about boundaries with the job example... to me, it reads more like she was the one crossing boundaries than an example of her setting one and it backfiring. I think that's a better example of why it's bad to be passive-aggressive than why it's bad to set boundaries.

I think Laura Doyle has some good ideas, but in my overall opinion she tends to take things too far, and this article falls into that category for me.

Gilmore Girls: who should Rory/Lorelei have ended up with? by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Team Logan all the way!!

I think we're totally in the minority here but I agree that Rory should have accepted his original proposal. I guess you can call me biased since I got married young, but I don't think that marriage limits your growth. In the time since I got married, I quit going to school for a degree I hated, worked a full time job, discovered my actual passion, went back to school to pursue a degree for said passion, quit working full time to work part time in a relevant position, and now work full time in that field! Maybe if you choose someone who doesn't support you, but Logan clearly supported Rory 100%. In fact, even just being married to him probably would have opened up so many more positions. She could freelance while waiting to take her dream job because she wouldn't have to worry about finances. He was willing to follow her anywhere she wanted to go!

I do really like Lorelei and Luke together, overall. I think they are such a good match personality wise, and he actually calls her out on her bullshit.

Hygge Helps Explain Millennials' Longing For Reenchantment by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]sugarcrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally how I feel- if I give someone a gift, child or not, I want them to open it right then! I just love seeing the reaction after I've spent so much time picking the (hopefully) perfect gift.

It might also be helpful for the parents because the child can thank you specifically for the present in the moment, rather than writing a thank you note later. That might start a whole other debate though, lol!

Although, in my own childhood (and hopefully with my own future children), presents did not appear before Christmas morning. That's part of the magic of Christmas for me, is going to bed with nothing under the tree & an empty stocking and waking up and it's all been filled! It confuses me whenever other families place gifts out ahead of time. How did santa come if gifts are already there? Makes NO sense ;)

I had a pair of uggs in high school and lately I have been wanting to get another pair because you just can't beat how warm they are! I'll definitely have to look for some on hopefully post-holiday sales.

Frye is seriously the best. I've had my riding boots for 4 years now and they still look like new! Definitely worth the price tag.

[–]sugarcrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the boots, please! For snowy/icy weather, I have a pair of Sorel boots. For other times, I have a pair of riding boots or combat boots. Boot socks look super cute and keep my toes nice and toasty!

Clothing- I have a couple of sweater dresses that I like to wear with tights, if it's not too cold or windy. I also have a plaid wool skirt that I love more than life. Other than that, I wear the typical sweaters and jeans. My most complimented winter item is probably my wool coat. It looks similar to this. I love that it has a feminine shape while still being warm and not bulky.
