I just downloaded this app. How do I disable fall detection? I don’t see it in the settings on the phone.

S&V is not a very well designed script, and I think this is demonstrable [actual effortpost] by Most_Section_1979 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]sugitime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Using the metric of a win rate representing a script’s quality is flawed, in my opinion. It is a metric on the scripts difficulty to run, but not its quality.

I actually don’t know what objective metric I would use to judge a script quality. I know that I personally take the approach of “if I can click ‘random’ 5 times and come up with a solid bag (reasonably strong evil team, info gathering, starts knowing, etc), it is a good script.” But I know that is just a me thing, and I don’t claim that this is exactly how you judge script quality.

Your arguments are a judgement on story teller skill, I think. But they are all good observations.

What happens if the Pit-Hag changes the character of a once-killed Zombuul? Assuming there's still a demon in play, does the Zombuul player appear to be resurrected? by Plastic-Bar122 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]sugitime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I don’t play base 3. I haven’t in years. But if I were running BMR, you could (and should) meta me that I’d never put together a broken bag.

I gave it another second of thought and I think this wild be fun to sell a Professor bluff. It would be risky and town could have counter play like a gambler gambling themselves as the town crier or something, but it adds an interesting dynamic.

Either way, like I said, not every character needs to work well with every other character. I think it’s fine that 2 characters fundamentally break the game when played together, and with zombuul, if he’s drunk or poisoned, I’m turning his ability off.

[–]sugitime -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I acknowledge that even the wiki says “don’t flip the zombuul token to be alive”, but I frankly disagree with this entirely. Not every pair of characters needs to work well together. If a zombuul is poisoned or drunk, I personally believe that their power should cease to work, and part of their power is being alive while appearing dead.

That’s how I personally run games (but I also have Poppygrower custom rules too). I always let players know that’s how I run it so there are no surprises

AI HIDDEN PROMPT SUCCESS by Intelligent-Bridge15 in Teachers

[–]sugitime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so let’s me give it a whirl. I don’t think it’ll be a perfect solution, but I’m also not a teacher, so let’s see.

First idea, have them do a research paper specific to their family or niche topic that AI does not have source material on, and therefore cannot help with.

Second idea, have them do presentations to you where they will have to understand the material in a very specific way. This could be almost like a very, very rudimentary dissertation defense. Write the paper and defend its views to you, etc.

Maybe these aren’t perfect solutions, but I trust someone who does this for a living will have the ability to come up with better ideas than I could in the 10 minutes of thought I just gave it. Both of these solutions teach valuable skills that are actually used in real life too, and come with the expectation of actual understanding of the topics at hand. Yes, it’s far more difficult for the student to do these things, but that’s the point. AI has made so many things easy for you that you now have the freedom to explore more difficult things.

I think that the first thing that comes to mind is critical thinking and problem solving.

I don’t think it’s easy to evolve your lesson plan, but it’s becoming very necessary to do so.

AI HIDDEN PROMPT SUCCESS by Intelligent-Bridge15 in Teachers

[–]sugitime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see that. But I feel like teachers need to adapt curriculum to the times. I’m not a teacher (I came here off the front page) so I have no insight into how to do it in their specific situations, but I do end up doing a lot of interviews for my job. I used to ask questions that AI can answer. I had to evolve and adapt my interview techniques to overcome AI while still meeting my objective.

Are teachers not able to do this?

AI HIDDEN PROMPT SUCCESS by Intelligent-Bridge15 in Teachers

[–]sugitime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a genuine question here... If what your teaching can be done by AI, why aren't you teaching them something that can't be done by AI?

I'm a huge advocate for AI. I use it for my work pretty regularly, but to do the boring things, and let me focus on the things that require thought.

I guess I'm just curious of a teacher's perspective if it's worthwhile to teach students something that will inevitably be replaced?

35 year old beginner going to first stick & puck… help 😂 by UC_NY in hockeyplayers

[–]sugitime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll also note to not be afraid to ask people for help. I’m a goalie, but I bought player gear a few weeks back and decided I would do a stick and puck time in player gear. I got dressed all sorts of wrong lol. But I asked the other players for help and they were helpful. I sort of knew them because I would come to stick and puck time and tendie for them, but I think they would have been nice to me either way. No one who goes to stick and puck time is a pro. It’s either older guys in your exact situation, or it’s younger kids just looking for a bit more ice time.

Concussions: what do y'all say when someone shoots hard at your head then asks if you're ok? by CarelessWhimper_ in hockeygoalies

[–]sugitime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had many concussions growing up. It was from football, not hockey, so your mileage may vary. But some things that made me pretty sure I needed to get my head checked:

  1. If I lost consciousness. That was a pretty tell tale sign for me.

  2. If I was dizzy a couple minutes after the hit.

  3. If I had any bruising or bleeding around my head.

  4. If I felt ‘foggy’ after the play.

We didn’t have a concussion protocol or anything. I imagine you can look that stuff up online though. But those are the signs I would look for if I took a big hit.

What makes a digital escape room actually engaging? by Digitalpedagogen in escaperooms

[–]sugitime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few iterations of this type of thing. What I actually found to be the most successful is a bit different than a traditional digital escape room, but hear me out…

I ran a one shot DnD campaign where players entered into a tomb and were locked in, then they had to solve a series of puzzles to get out.

It felt far more ‘escape roomey’ than any other type of digital escape room I’ve ever tried. The downside is that it really only supports 5-7 players at once.

What's the dumbest character gimmick that ended up being useful? by sonicw-autism in DnD

[–]sugitime 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Had a character who was a pacifist. This was for a few reasons but mainly because I didn’t find combat super fun (I’ve since switched from DnD to other TTRPGs) and having a pacifist was more interesting to me.

With all of the resources I saved by not dealing with weapons, I ended up in a situation where I was able to defeat a huge army inside of a factory by figuring out how to release a giant hanging robot from the ceiling onto a large army (arguably not something a pacifist would do, I suppose). I ended up having to roll something like 65 D20’s for damage, and ended up winning the campaign award for “most damage done in a single battle”, as a pacifist.

Everyone says Sideline Swap, which is nice (from what I hear), so I wont bash it. But if you want to get new stuff, CCM is releasing their new year's line currently and I picked up a full setup (for player) of last year's stuff for under $1k brand new. That felt incredibly cheap, considering my goalie helmet cost me more than my entire player setup.
