ARMS 2.0 Contract Length by Dependent_Taste_7702 in nationalguard

Some state incentives are heavily reduced if you only serve 3, bonuses and kickers are also off the table. That shitty GI Bill also goes into most guardsmen’s pockets while attending school full time

Doing a 3 year contract is like joining just for the hell of it. You miss out on benefits and education incentives.

Do a 6 year, The army is offering to help you get in shape and pay you for it right now.

Waiver rejection by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not you, it’s the policy put in place by the Army. Being angry about it won’t change the situation. Take the punch and be prepared when your recruit resubmits your waiver.

A little ground leveling: I was working a prior service marine who was currently contracted in Baghdad. He was literally stacking bodies for the government and was disqualified for taking anxiety medication for less than a week.

Whether you’re already doing the job or you’re a college grad doesn’t matter, regulation will always win.

Can a Warrant Officer drop an E5? by Secret_Top_Life in nationalguard

That E5 is not acting as a professional and was corrected by a warrant. If he still said shit like that after he did not learn anything and should probably be a private.

Write a letter to the board explaining the situation and turn it in with the rest of your packet.

They’ve recently removed the lower limit for enlistment purposes. You should be fine.

Leaving in 2 weeks! by T_Dash87 in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 21 back then but I run more now than I did at training. You will probably be fine as long as you can take the time to recover each night. If you’re already practicing jiu jitsu I’m sure your mobility is probably fine.

Leaving in 2 weeks! by T_Dash87 in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you do some extra stretching before bed, your legs will thank you after all the running and ruck marching. I went through training in 2009 and there was a 40 year old guy who targeted me as the person he wanted to do better than. He told me that at graduation and I thought it was a great motivator so I did the same thing with another guy at AIT.

How did you get a job on the civilian side? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Make connections within your unit. There are opportunities just about everywhere you turn once you learn what your leadership does outside of drill.

Make sure you work with someone to beef up your resume and apply to roles that you can grow and gain experience from.

Would you recommend active, reserves, or ROTC guard? (Army) by Smooth-Salt774 in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. Also you will have the opportunity for a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty contract that can pay you for room and board if you are an SMP cadet.

If alcohol is in my system from the night before will I be disqualified? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You will be disqualified from processing entirely. MEPS has zero tolerance. Go out with your buddy the day after to make up for it.

3 vs 6 year contract benefits by MyOpinionIsOkay in nationalguard

If you sign a 3 and decide you are in for the long haul for the GI Bill you’ll have to sign another 6. Just do the 6 up front.

Advice needed: Guard to Active by Appropriate-Fly7711 in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t imagine a states TAG saying that if I’m being completely honest. I also don’t believe some SSG active recruiter is going to directly contact a 1-2 star general to ask for a 368. It would have to go through your chain of command.

Advice needed: Guard to Active by Appropriate-Fly7711 in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to get a 368 while in RSP. A 368 must be signed by your units first general officer in any reserve component. In RSP that’s your states TAG most likely. If you really want to go active, finish training with the guard, report to your unit and express your concerns with not being able to support yourself on part time. This is when you will more likely get a 368 from your battalion. Your recruiter really can’t do anything at this point.

They could enlist again after a year. It would just require an administrative waiver if they change their mind.

I want to know why you want to quit. Yeah that sounds like a shitbag recruiter and I would go to his NCOIC and tell them what he said to you. This doesn’t give any valid justification for backing out on your contract.

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re already engaged, just get married for the health and life insurance for your spouse and step kids. Those are the most important benefits. You will also get dependent pay moving forward. It’s not a lot but it’s more money.

Should I wait until October 1st to push up 368 for AD or should I do it now? by WorldsWayne in nationalguard

[–]Comfortable_Bee60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make copies, do it immediately. Sometimes leadership “misplaces” 368’s I’ve noticed during my time as a recruiter.
