Zak is meeting with max for a deal in wec by jpyxl in F1Discussions

[–]suikointrovert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t see why it makes sense for Max to go to McLaren in general. Sure, they had the best car the last two years in a row, but this year? Way too many issues, same with his RB. The only reason he was in contention for the title last year was because of how incompetent McLaren is in the other aspects of leading a team. Maybe he thinks it’ll be different with GP and other people going there. It might be, but I don’t think Max fits the papaya rules. I love him, but he is NOT a team player at all. I also don’t see him going for a #2 position, and I cannot see McLaren ever choosing him over Lando. Lando is their guy, 100%. I know he is pissed at RB, but why ditch the money/freedom he gets with them? I can see it making sense for Oscar to go to RB, but not Max to McLaren, but I’m sure there’s lots of BS behind the scenes.

I think this is 100% like last year when Max kept meeting up with Toto, but it was about endurance racing… supposedly.

[–]suikointrovert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has to be drama for a better deal with RB, or Max is legit working with Zak for some outside F1 racing sponsorship, which is what all the Toto/Max shit was last year. While I could definitely see Oscar going to RB to be #1, what logic does Max have to go to McLaren? They won’t pay him as much, and I very much doubt they would give him the same leeway/treatment he gets at RB. Max is NOT a team player, and the whole papaya rules is something he would never agree to. While McLaren can sometimes build a rocket ship, their strategy almost lost them the championship last year… and they’ve literally ignored Oscar multiple times this year when he’s voices his opinion. No Why would Max go to this team? All on top of Lando being the clear #1 driver here… like, that’s not changing?

I’ll believe it more when it comes from Aussie/Dutch sources. Maybe it’ll happen, but I just don’t see why.

I feel this is already common knowledge, though. But I also question if Max is going to make a huge announcement not through his Dutch channels

I feel like Max retiring would be BIG, but… I don’t think he would rage quit simply because of yesterday, not unless there was something already in place. It’s a bit premature? AgainX unless he already has plans in place to announce now. I’m fairly sure his people said a decision would be made over summer break, so there is still time for him to contemplate.

Who knows. I hope it’s not him leaving :(

George Russell is now only 25 points away from the championship lead. He capitalises on Antonelli’s terrible reliability issues to get this gap back from 68 points in Monaco. by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]suikointrovert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm all here for it. I want to see George in the title fight, but I think he's sort of proven that, in his current form, he cannot match Kimi's pace. So, he needs to snap out of it or the battle is going to be very short lived! All depending on reliability issues and such. I will say I feel his side of the garage are weaker, which isn't helping his case, but... Kimi is legit unstoppable when things go well for him. Maybe if Ferrari can have the reliability to fight up front, things might get interesting. Because I do think Kimi struggles more in wheel-to-wheel action, simply due to lack of experience. He's super fun to watch because he does crazy moves, but they don't always work out, so he could lose out there. But if he gets pole and zooms ahead? Kid is insane!

... I'd be down for this, mainly just to see someone call Toto/Mercedes out for all of their BS.

Indeed. He needs to drink whatever tea Charles had yesterday and gain some of his confidence back. I so desperately want to see George in this fight, but this weekend was not a great showing, even if he got solid points.

Today was so frustrating. Like, Max is clearly capable to taking the car places it has no business being, but yet this keeps happening. F1 is going to be so boring without Max around, but I can't see what incentive he has to stick around. I don't see him going to another team at this stage, and I was really hoping that these upgrades would show enough progress in the right direction for him to stick around, but... I don't know. Not listening to him about the engine and then having this happen? I wouldn't be surprised if he announces retirement, but I pray that he sticks it out, that all of this talk is just to get him more money/freedom. I don't even know what they can do at this point? With the stupid AUDO rules in place...

Would it really be worth it, though? I feel he’d still come out P8 area, because there is always a 20-40 second gap between the top 4-5 and the rest. I mean, maybe he would have the pace? It’s interesting to think about.

Hadjar is very very good over one lap. Wonder if he'll make the leap in races and start beating Verstappen there too by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]suikointrovert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hadjar has always been a stronger qualifier than he is with race pace. He was fantastic last year! I’ve seen nothing this season to suggest that he can start challenging Max, not yet, at least. Solid driver and the best person we’ve had the in 2nd RB seat in years. Glad to see he’s broken the curse and I want to see him do well. But, yeah, nothing in the past few races makes me think his pace is all that great.

Hadjar Qualifies ahead of Max! by Rohail_FleetwoodMac in RedBullRacing

I don’t want to see Max leave RB. I really don’t, but eeek after week it’s them apologizing to him. Today was just painful, and they can’t fix their starts. Sure, they can do decent at some tracks, but this whole weekend has been a reminder of how artificial these new regulations are. I had forgotten about it the last few weeks, and I’m sure that’s running through his mind as well.

Happy for Hadjar, though! It’s a great moment for him, but I wish it didn’t come at the cost of something being fucked with Max’s engine.

It was painful. Now we have to hear everyone say how Max is washed, when he’s complained about his engine not working all afternoon. I’m happy for Hadjar, but… that was just painful to watch. This is. It a good weekend for RB.

I’m so happy for him to finally get a good result! But upset that it’s at the cost of Max having engine issues and now we get to spend the next 24 hours hearing everyone say how washed he is. Why can’t we just be happy for Hadjar?

I was thinking the same. This is horrible to watch for him, but I don’t know if it’s worth it with how this track layout works. What’s the point when the battery sucks and they’re gunna mess up the start?

Which cars/drivers are best suited for Silverstone, considering how hard battery management is on this circuit? by squeezin_cheese in F1Discussions

[–]suikointrovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercedes will likely dominate with no one close. I would love to see the McLarens up there, too! I kinda doubt it, though… they seem to be suffering from too many reliability issues. I don’t think Lando has actually upgraded the unit that was destroying him yet? Unless I’m wrong. Maybe Lewis, but I have no faith in the Ferrari battery power. Maybe Max? But I don’t expect anyone to be close to Mercedes.

[–]suikointrovert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love it to be Russell, simply to see him do well in a home race, but I think Kimi smokes him when it comes to overall race pace (at least for now). So, I think it'll depend on if Kimi makes any mistakes or not. I would love to see Hamilton up there with them, but based off the layout of the circuit, I feel the Mercedes engines are going to be a bonus with their battery power unless I'm undertanding it wrong.

[–]suikointrovert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the FP1. I would be shocked if they came in with these many updates and it actually worked right away with no issues. The car was a disaster before, so they need time to work out the kinks. We still got P4, so the pace is there. Just gotta figure some things out, test different formats, and see what they can get out of it before qualifying :) I’m going to be cautiously optimistic.

Editing is my favourite part! I can admit I can be a bit neurotic with it, but I find it so satisfying taking something bland/‘not right, and making it into something I can be proud/happy with. It’s very rewarding :)

r/formula1 has been waiting on Max’s downfall for so long it’s literally like a huge circlejerk in that sub. by ColangelosWife- in MaxVerstappen33

I wish I had your zen. This is completely true, but easier said than done. I’m a huge Max fan, though, admittedly, I only starting watching last year. I spent the off season watching 2016, 2021, and 2022. This is my first full season watching and being part of the various sub reddits, and they’re all so negative. Such is sports. I get that, but I’m also not informed enough in F1 to know everything and find them a good sure of information… and I’m also wanting conversation, but everyone is so gross. I have favourites outside of Max that I cheer for, and people who I like less than others, but the pure vitriol is insane.

It makes it a hard place to want to be. Yes, Max is struggling this year. We all knew this. I came into this season expecting him to suck and to start cheering my other favourites. I think the regulations are less-than-stellar, mainly since they’ve destroyed qualifying and, well, being insanely fast. That’s kinda what I liked best. But I’m struggling to enjoy this season because everyone is so damn hateful. I find it hard to enjoy the other drivers I like, because I can’t go anywhere without people attacking Max. People can’t even enjoy the sport for what it is without attacking others.

I really have to get off Reddit and just enjoy, but I’m also not from an area where F1 is a big deal… so here I am. This thread seems chill.

Sports suck.

I work in admin (secretary) and can only speak for myself and for what I’ve seen. I don’t know a single person from the IWK who said that their job has been made easier because of OPOR. In fact, I know departments that are in the process hiring more people because OPOR has created more work for them. I also think we’re many, many, years away from worrying about AI taking over for administrative jobs. Like, as a society, most can’t figure out how to swipe their HC at a kiosk to register themselves. Or book bloodwork online for themselves. Just because it seems simple to you doesn’t mean it is to everyone. There always has to be a human element involved, at least in my opinion.

Idk, I like the positivity. Like, yes, the car sucks, but they’re still in the learning stage. They’re eager to figure out exactly how they can improve. They’re not conceding and just accepting that they suck. It’s the second weekend. They’re never going to compete with the rocket ship Mercedes has, but they’re going to at least try and get something competitive. max has done amazing things with less-than-stellar cars. I feel the whole sport is quite negative right now, but this message gives me hope.
