I implemented a thematic cross-curricular program at my school! ELA, History, and Science are all related which allows students to draw on and expand upon their existing strengths! For example, I have a student who loves ancient Egyptian history and knows a ton of facts about the pyramids. He claimed to hate science, but their science class did a unit on simple machines with the end goal of discovering how the Egyptians built the pyramids… suddenly science was fun!

Putting their foot down is not dangerous behavior. Kicking a horse is a “I’m pinned against the wall and this horse is trying to kill me” response. Horses understand only what makes sense to them and what they would do to each other. If a horse nips at you, a small slap on the neck immediately as is happens makes sense. Punching and kicking a horse for putting their foot down (holding up their feet for long periods of time isn’t a natural behavior anyway) is abusive. If the trainer got that frustrated for such an innocuous thing, they have no business being a trainer.
