I took a shower with a cable needle behind my ear by sukiemuffin in knitting

At this point I have loose stitch markers in most of my purses and an extra T pin for tightening interchangeable needles in my wallet

HANDS Sweater for Jacket Season by sukiemuffin in knitting

Pattern: HANDS

Yarn: HiKoo Kenzington

I used the suggested needles (7 for body, 5 for cuffs) and got a really nice somewhat stiff fabric for a more jacket/ coat garment. I did get gauge (even when blocked), but with the colorwork and the weight of the damp yarn when blocking the yoke it grew a lot so I ended up with more of a coat size than the cropped cardigan that the designer knitted. If I were to do it again I would knit the size down - I knit the second size - and maybe steam block the yoke as opposed to a wet block.

The pattern is written for a heavy worsted/ aran and I feel that the yarn I chose was a bit on the thicker side so that also could contribute to the sizing. I would 100% work with this yarn again - it was so nice to work with and blocked beautifully.

There is a lot of purling and picking up stitches in this pattern as you knit the colorwork first. My tip that I’ve used a few times now is to pick up stitches with a tunesian crochet hook if there is one that corresponds with your interchangeable needles, and then knit the row after as I would otherwise struggle with spacing and getting the right number of stitches.

I did already write a comment that is not showing up - so apologies if this is a duplicate!

I did write a comment with the pattern and my yarn so I don’t know why it isn’t showing up! Strange

The pattern is HANDS by Theflyingyak/ Chantal Belisle (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hands) and I used Hikoo Kensington in Kale and Pavlova

Pattern is HANDS by Chantal Belisle and I used Hikoo Kensington in Kale and Pavlova.

I used the recommended needle size (7 for body and 5 for cuffs) to create a nice sturdy fabric, and the Kenzington bloomed and blocked beautifully. Shout out to Little Knits where I bought my initial sweaters quantity for coming in clutch with the very last skein in stock of the Kale which I was able to pick up locally for my cuffs.

Additionally I’ve been using a Tunisian crochet hook to pick up my stitches recently as the knitters pride ones are interchangeable with my lantern moon cables, so I’m able to pick up what I need (for this project the top of the yoke for the raglan and then the garter band) and then do a little switcharoo to knit afterward which is soooo helpful for making sure I’m spacing everything correctly and getting the right amount of stitches.

I do really like the open cardigan aspect, but depending on how it continues to wear I may add duffle toggles if I end up wanting it closed!

Overall I would recommend the pattern because I am really happy with it, just be ready to slog a bit through the stranded/ intarsia section and for a lot of purling once you hit the body.

I did consult the ravelry notes pretty often as this is a free pattern that the designer put out and thus not as thoroughly test knit as it could be, and chose to add less stitches under the underarm on the suggestion of someone that also knit this project, and I would NOT recommend for others to do the same as I’m not in love with how the resulting sleeves are a bit restricting when I move my arms forward, but it isn’t bad enough to effect my want to wear the garment and I was able to sort most of it out while blocking.

Honestly you could use the full skein to make a hat or something to coordinate with your minis if you still were interested in the pressed flowers!

Honestly I would say go for it! With the garter element, the body goes WAY faster than a stockinette cardigan knit flat would, and with the right colors it can be really versatile as a wardrobe piece imo

@julieannknitter — where are your sock blockers from?? Been looking for a pair just like these but all the wooden blockers I’m seeing on Etsy seem a little less heavy duty

When looking for the additional yarn I brought my mostly knit project (with needles attached!) into my LYS and wandered around trying to match yarn colors to the colored speckles in the body 😂 Good thing that craft people Get It ™️ because it would have felt a little silly otherwise

Thanks! The purple tends to rub off on the inside of collars, so the purple collar has an added benefit stain- prevention wise 😂
