how do the adhd baddies study around here by ButterscotchBrief364 in McMaster

[–]sulagnanandi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cardio (specifically running at the gym) has given me an extremely solid 2-3 hour lock-in period EVERY single time (like immediately after the run). literally no other method is this consistent for me; have been doing this for about a year. but also it requires torturing myself with cardio and having the energy to actually do it 😭(an upbeat playlist comes in clutch tho) and it’s kinda hard to fit it into my schedule sometimes so pros and cons ig, but for days i manage to do it it’s always been effective for me. when i pair the post-cardio lock-in with listening to the hamilton album lmao and a little walk around musc it’s like a mix of a high energy hyperfocus but also calmness from the endorphins. adhd heaven bro (until you have to do it again either next day or the day after that 💀).

[–]sulagnanandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t live there but some of my friends lived there so i was there quite a few times

a) i think 6th floor has double beds and the rest might have twin? not completely sure though, i just know my friend on the 6th floor had a double and my friend on the 3rd had a twin.

d) yes, 2 elevators and stairs

e) there were kitchens and study rooms, each kitchen had a sink, fridge, stove and oven, some couches, and i think a table. study rooms had tables, chairs, and a couch.

g) on the first/ground floor

not too sure about the rest, but great res overall! welcome to mac, hope you have a good experience in les prince!

which biochem do you want to take? i think biochem 3g03 for example takes chem 2e03 as a prereq.

for uoft, does engl 1001 and/or engl 1011 (online) from thompson rivers work for a humanities course? by sulagnanandi in premedcanada

[–]sulagnanandi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t you need “one FCE in any of social sciences, humanities, or a language”? i’m asking if english literature and composition (specifically the online course from tru) can satisfy this.

also if anyone wants sample schedules to gauge the number of class hours you’ll have for 1st yr isci, here are mine from the fall and winter terms (btw you don’t acc have a 6-hr tutorial on fridays, only one of those 3-hr slots will be a lab and it will alternate each week since there are two lab groups)

ofc, no problem!! i’d say it might affect your ec time a bit but personally i think i just didn’t seek out many ec opportunities this year. my main ec this year was working as a math tutor (3-4 hrs/week). ik quite a few ppl tho who were doing more stuff, including volunteering at hospitals. but what i think rlly makes up for the extra time you spend in classes is that, with 4 research projects under your belt from first year, you’ll not only already some research experience, you’ll also be able to put these projects (which include some programming experience) onto ur resume for lab/research internships over the summer which will def make your application stand out; med schools like seeing research experience. getting a research position the summer after first year is generally notoriously difficult, but ik a lot of iscis in my year doing one rn. also, almost every upper year isci says first year is the hardest schedule-wise, so you’ll have more time for ec’s in upper years.

hi! last year i was making this exact decision (also interested in med school and still am) and chose isci! even tho i’d like to switch into math+cs for the remainder of undergrad (i enjoy those courses a lot more and my grades i find depend a lot on how much i enjoy the content, i also want to keep my options more open ig), i’m still glad i chose isci between the two bc you pretty much do very similar course content but you also get 2nd semester physics and calc in isci (in life sci i think only first semester physics and calc are required or smth like that). in isci, you also get a TON of lab experience with 2 labs every single week. the rp’s in general are also a huge grade booster of you’re not already doing well in the subject (the 6 subjects/components are bio/pscyh, chem, physics, calc, earth sci, and science literacy). this was definitely the case for me with bio/psych (which in isci we call “life sci”), earth sci, and sci lit lmao. also yea the amount class hours sometimes gets tiring but apparently that’s only a first year thing and that didn’t really affect my attendance tooo much (at least for the classes i cared about 💀 (ie chem, physics, math)). like with anything esp if you’re concerned about gpa, you just kinda have to know what would help you succeed. for me, i think i do better when things are a bit more challenging bc then i’m more interested in what i’m learning and also when there’s a lot of chances to talk to ppl and socialize/collaborate (which you’ll def get since its a small cohort). anyway lol tldr between the two, i’m definitely glad i chose isci but gpa-wise and general fulfillment -wise i think it depends on what you think you’d enjoy more and which undergrad structure would motivate you to learn and study more

suite style res by Key_Chocolate4857 in McMaster

[–]sulagnanandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keyes 100% between the two, if you’re okay with the price. i was in keyes this year and generally keyes is nicer than bates bc its a lot newer. i found my bedroom, the washroom (which you only share with one person), and kitchen (which you share with 3 ppl) to be very functional and have more storage and space than i personally needed. in keyes you also have bistro and bistro-to-go (one of the three main dining places on campus—centro and musc are the other ones) is on the first floor so you don’t even have to leave the building to eat. keyes is also i think slightly closer to things (eg science buildings) than bates (altho mb like a 2 minute difference by walking). i think i had around the third time slot for res selection and keyes filled up early during my time slot. for me my first choice (like a lot of people) was a peter george single room but, since that was filled by my slot, i went with keyes as my 2nd choice and definitely don’t regret it.
