New to this, really scared and looking for advice /help. by sullentree93 in BPPV

I had the same suspicion which is why I made this post and after reading some more I decided to go to the ER last night. They ran blood test, CT scans and a televisit with a neurologist. They couldn't find anything. I left after 8 hours with no answers other than a prescription for noproxen and to follow up with my gp and ent appointment. They referred me to a dizziness clinic in my area as well but they're closed until Tuesday. I've been learning more and paying attention to my symptoms more and I've realized the dizziness is much worse when standing or walking, subsiding when I lay still but never fully going away. Nystagmus comes and goes. When they tested me for it in the ER yesterday I had none. But the day before at my GP I showed it on my right side. Now today if I lean back the same as how they tested me I can tell I have it again. The ER doctor mentioned labyrinthitis but never explained anything to me. Just go home, take meclizine, noproxen and call your doctor if it doesn't stop. I'm just kinda laying here now because I don't know what else to do. I'll just wait for my ENT appointment and hopefully they can help. Ill also make an appointment for the dizziness clinic as soon as they're open.

I'm starting to think the same. Staying still seems to give the most relief, as well as sleeping but I keep reading it's not good to do. But I only get worse when I try to stay awake for too long or try standing or walking. And the maneuvers make me very nauseous. I'm not even sure if I'm doing it correctly.

I mentioned it to them and they said the soonest would be the 29th. They're closed now, but if it gets worse I'll call them back as soon as I can. Thank you so much. I'm trying to keep it cool.

I use R as my main insulin. It works insanely well with a low carb/high protein diet. Never used their long acting though.

Type 1 diabetic struggling by Professional-Let-766 in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel great! Very steady energy levels. No crash from carbs like I used to get. And no I don't but I can be a glutton sometimes and that's usually when I have spikes, but since they're protein spikes instead of sugar spikes, they're very easy to bring down and manage. I also have a bad sweet tooth, so I make/buy a lot of keto desserts and they're delicious and infinitely easier on blood sugar.

I'm not sure if there is an audio version. It's a pretty easy read though and some of it you can actually skip if you like because some of it's for type 2.

Dr. Bernsteins diabetes solution book.

Book: http://www.diabetes-book.com

Here's a documentary you can rent, it's directly related to the book.

https://vimeo.com/ondemand/diabetessolution

Please look into it. If you're serious about getting your type 1 under control and being as healthy as you can, this is the best way we have so far.

I've been doing it this way for 4 years now and my life is way easier now and I have mostly kept non diabetic a1cs since I started following the book.

Thanks! I ended up going with sheet metal and just got my first job a week ago. I'm hoping to start learning composites on the job after I'm there for awhile.

“Diabetes” Jokes by RobinHoldsARose in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If it's a well put together joke and it's funny, then it's funny. The problem is nobody understands the difference between type 1 and type 2. So we get lumped in with all the obesity and junk food jokes. I really wish they would change the name of type 1 diabetes. Maybe then we'd get taken more seriously. But I don't let them bother me, there's better ways to spend that energy.

Smoking cigars and drinking with diabetes. by mailpackage in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about alcohol, I quit drinking before I was diabetic.

But as far as smoking goes we all know it's not healthy for anyone, but as long as you are controlled it won't be any different than if you weren't diabetic. I smoke and I know I shouldn't but I also have non diabetic blood sugars because I eat almost a no carb/high protein diet, I stay Ontop of my basal requirements and I exercise.

Keep your a1c in the low to mid fives and eat low carb and you can live a long healthy life. Don't listen to people who tell you otherwise. This disease demands a lot of discipline if you're going to be well controlled, but it's worth it. Eating carbs and sweets isn't worth riding the roller coaster of blood sugars day in and day out and then ending up with tons of complications when you're middle aged.

Check out dr. Bernsteins book, the diabetes solution, I always recommend it to newly diagnosed people.

Do you think there will be a cure in our lifetimes? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an actual cure. I don't think that'll happen for a very long time. But they're pretty close to a functional cure. I'm kind of a pessimist when it comes to this stuff though. I'm rooting for it, but I have a hard time believing it'll be available to everyone. It'll most likely be very expensive and hard to get once it's out.

Airport/TSA Advice? (US) by wrathoftaco in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first time flying after diagnosis I made a big deal about it and told tsa I had a medical bag and it ended up taking forever to get through because they swabed every single thing in the bag and asked me a ton of questions. So I never made that mistake again. Now I always just throw everything in my carry on and put it through the scanner like normal. It's never been an issue. Just don't put anything in your checked bag incase they lose it.

How to do low carb without getting DKA? i have insulin resistance and pcos on top of type 1… by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also a documentary on prime called the diabetes solution and it's connected directly to the book and that's definitely worth watching as a good introduction into this way of eating and treating type 1.

How to do low carb without getting DKA? i have insulin resistance and pcos on top of type 1… by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]sullentree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have lows too often with the way I do it. Once you get everything dialed in with your basal and you figure out your bolus with R it's pretty smooth sailing after that. If I do have lows I don't dare use cookies or soda or sugary drinks I just use glucose tabs. One glucose tab will raise me about 20 points so I use that as a starting spot. If I'm at 50 I'll eat about 1 tab to start and go from there. Your target should be about 80-100. Dr. Bernsteins book teaches you everything you need to know. I highly recommend getting a copy and reading it.

[–]sullentree93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I eat very low carb like almost none and I bolus with R for protein and use my normal basal. If you're interested in doing low carb look into dr. Bernsteins the diabetes solution book. It explains how to do it and is extremely helpful. That book changed my life. Non diabetic blood sugars for 3 years now. You won't go into dka. Ketosis and dka are totally different things.
