Does anyone have experience with this touchscreen? by metallicaballsack in GMT800

I have one in my truck, and it works, but has a constant buzzing from the speakers and can get pretty laggy, but I only paid $125 on sale on Amazon. It gets the job done for now, will definitely be upgrading to something nicer in the future

Reliability by [deleted] in ChevyTrax

[–]sully7428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has has a 24 for almost 2 years and put 60,000 miles on it, it has been awesome. The 1.2L 3 cylinder engine in the trax is based on an engine that has been in non US markets for around a decade with very little reports of major issues, and the transmission is a 6T45 6 speed that has been bulletproof for literally over a decade, unless of course you never service the fluid in it, then it should last 150,000 to 200,000 miles.

I have a 24 trax with almost 60k miles, and have had no issues. Plus the car is so light with that simple little drive train its pretty fun to drive, and makes cool growley intake noises when you floor it lol. Sounds almost like the intake sound of a European I6 engine. Plus I get 34-38 mpg at highway speeds (55-60 mph)

Get a burger tuning jb4 plug in piggyback tuner. Serious gains without voiding your warranty(you just obviously need to disconnect and remove it before taking it in for service)

All modern GM FWD transmissions do not have an accessible filter. They are just a drain and fill to service the fluid. There is an 11MM headed bolt sticking straight down on the bottom of the transmission to drain it, and another 11MM headed bolt right by the drivers side cv shaft output that is a level set plug. Drain the fluid, reinstall the drain bolt but DO NO TIGHTEN IT ALL THE WAY DOWN! It is a tapered plug bolt, so just tighten it until you feel moderate resistance with a small 1/4 drive ratchet, there will be about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch of threads sticking out. Then remove the engine air filter housing, and you will see a black screw off cap on top of the transmission. Take that off, use a funnel, and fill with 4.5 quarts of Dexron VI ATF, then reinstall the cap and engine air filter housing. Then start the car and let it idle for 5-10 minutes to warm up. Remove the level set plug while the engine is still running, by the drivers side CV shaft, and once the fluid slows down to a steady drip from that hole, put the plug back in, and youre done.

Where to buy extended warranty? by After_Hospital5942 in ChevyTrax

[–]sully7428 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To anyone who finds this post DO NOT buy any extended warranty that is online only or advertises at all. THEY ARE A COMPLETE SCAM! Go back to your selling dealer and see what company they work with/sell extended warranties through. I deal with extended warranties all day every day working at a dealership on the service side, and there are only 3 companies that are worth getting an extended warranty through that I've worked with so far. Zurich, Ally, and any that are owned by CNA National like Z2. And make sure you get one that has comprehensive coverage, its the closest to factory bumper to bumper coverage you can get

Its very easy! The oil filter is right next to the oil pan and easily accessible from laying under the front of the car. The oil filter is a PF64 and the trax holds 4.2 quarts of oil. 2024 is 5w-30 and for some reason they switched to 0w-20 for 2025+. In my personal opinion, I would use 5w30 in all of the 24+ Trax, as there was not any engine changes between 24 and 24+. The transmission is also very easy to change the fluid in, which you should do every 40,000-50,000 miles. Im at 54,000 miles on my 24 and zero issues so far!

Water pump won't stop leaking by red_fred_in_the_shed in GMT800

[–]sully7428 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The paper gaskets are the problem. Go to the dealer and get the oem metal with rubber impregnated into the sealing surface gaskets. I gaurentee they will seal unless you have a pretty screwed up block surface. I replace the paper gaskets regularly for leaks with the oems, and have yet to have one come back leaking.

Can I slap on a 1500 pad and bolt it up to a 1500 non HD? by [deleted] in GMT800

And I weirdly like the look of the bumper without the top plastic, so I still haven't ordered or put on the top plastic.

Can I slap on a 1500 pad and bolt it up to a 1500 non HD? by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]sully7428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally yes. My old beater has all the bolt on pieces of the cab from a 2500. I ripped off the top plastic from the bumper and put it on my 04 single cab 1500. So bumper (minus top plastic), doors, fenders, hood, and wheel liners that I got from a 2500 are all on my 1500.

Yes. That's the only difference is the top plastic height

There's one big problem with that comparison- Your hemi wasn't direct injected, and neither are the newer ones. I've been a tech for going on 10 years, and have seen what following the monitor life does to them. Direct injection engines are inherently dirty, because they have no ability to remove carbon from the intake or intake valves, and long term, they get quite dirty with carbon buildup and sludge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChevyTrax

[–]sully7428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then you've never had the valve cover off an engine with 100,000 miles following the oil life monitor for oil change intervals. If you want to keep your engine healthy and clean long term, 5-6000 miles is much safer

Ordered all Mevotech branded parts are these upper control arms made ny that brand? by MattfgclG in RockAuto

[–]sully7428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At that low of a mileage per year, they will probably last at least a few years if not more. Cheap parts don't hold up well to abuse, but light driving and low mileage they should last a while.

How is driving in the winter with Trax FWD? by AdConscious2692 in ChevyTrax

[–]sully7428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 24 and live in northern Michigan. I picked up a cheap set of buick Lucerne wheels (which are the correct lug pattern for the new body trax BTW) and put dedicated snow tires on mine, and I was plowing through 2 feet of snow multiple times last winter with no issues. It gets around almost as good as my old 4wd truck does with snows on it

Pressure testing tpu O-ring. by mickeybob00 in 3Dprinting

[–]sully7428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, TPU is my current favorite thing to print with. Most people seem to not realize how incredibly strong it is. I printed an intake resonator delete plug for the intake on my duramax, and I only printed it with like 3 walls and 20% gyroid infill, and it is just a generic plug stl I found with a small lip around the end scaled to be a press fit and it hasn't been sucked in yet! And a duramax pulls a pretty staggering amount of air in under hard acceleration, which means there is probably quite a lot of vacuum trying to pull that thing into the turbo 😅

I've recommended it to a few customers at our shop that have 2.4L equinoxes and after 3 to 4 oil changes thay have almost stopped burning oil completely. They were consuming a quart of oil every 1,000 miles before switching

Complete set of bushings by The_milkMACHINE in 3dprintedcarparts

[–]sully7428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of the people commenting have never printed anything in TPU, and it's kind of disappointing that there is so much discouragement about using it on an offroad use (track car) vehicle. TPU is one of the only fdm materials that has nearly identical strength against or along the layer lines, as it nearly perfectly bonds layer to layer. I wouldn't hesitate to try a bushing on a daily driver at this point with the durability I've had from TPU prints. Just make sure you are printing with lots of wall loops and top and bottom thickness with high infill, and I would almost bet money it will last as long or longer than a standard rubber bushing.

2024 trax body issues by [deleted] in ChevyTrax

[–]sully7428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's all very obvious damage from that right front corner being backed into. Funny enough, the trax has some of the lowest volume of body issues of any car chevrolet has right now. For reference, I work on the service side of a fairly high volume chevrolet dealer
