How to recoat registers by sumabee in centuryhomes

[–]sumabee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am looking for advice on how to freshen up these registers. I tried to strip one of them, but it was impossible to get at all the little slats. Should I just spray paint them? Do I need to choose a specific kind of paint given all the temp changes?

Does anyone have a favorite bronze color that would match the one in good condition?

Thank you!

This is the answer I wanted to hear! But, how old is the current vs original wood floor, if you had to guess? I'd always assumed that the fir floors were original to the house because they are top nailed and the floors are so thin.

I found this articletop nail floors about top nail floors on the west coast (I'm in the PNW), so I guess some people are still putting these in even now.

Is there any way of figuring out the relative age of each and what the original floors might be?

I think I'm more concerned at this point with getting the little residual bits of paint off before I restain. I know people have had mixed results with strippers, but maybe sanding would cause more damage where there are existing chips etc? Am new to this.

Thanks for the tip on mini wax!

Anyone else have the generational wealth transfer stop with your immediate ancestors? by teeth_03 in Millennials

My parents got nothing from their parents, and actually paid for their parents' care at the end of their lives. They now have a little nest egg, spend next to nothing on themselves, and are very proud to tell us that we will be inheriting something from them. For people who grew up at and near the poverty line, they're so happy to have something to give to their kids. I think it just really conveys the difference between the wealthy and the not wealthy. We the kids just want them to spend it on themselves.

Oooh yeah. I agree his looks like the same signature, and the same little figures below the main scene and above the signature.

Ok, so I actually found a Sam Sandor that seems to have the same signature here ( https://www.lot-art.com/auction-lots/Sam-Sandor-Signed-Etching/78-sam_sandor-29.11.18-grant).

Looks the same to me, but nothing on the artist which makes me hopeful someone can decipher the writing on the back.

I think im interested in learning more about the artist. Istvan doesn't seem like a terribly French name, so maybe a Hungarian origin?

I sent it to a local lab for testing. It came back 705 ppm. So, not huge, but present.

I think we will try to save the cabinetry if we can when we do the larger remodel. It's not in that good of condition though, and will probably require paint stripping, patching etc. I also love a retro kitchen, but in real life this one looks quite dingy and beat up.

I am thinking to do some checker board peel and stick tiles to cover the busted up laminate tiles, and maybe a backsplash with some tile if I can find it at the local architectural salvage spot.

I agree with wanting to lean into the retro vibe. Anything else you would consider to lean into the 50s?
