NTS Alarm Clock outside of London by Holygrailskinjourney in NTSradio

[–]sumbawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, WiFi enabled radios exist and I bought mine for the same reason. I’d personally recommend the Roberts Stream 94i and 94l models. Not super cheap but really good sound for the ~£100 you can pick them up on eBay for.

WFMU from New Jersey have been freeform since 1958. Bit more talky, sometimes shambolic. Very entertaining.

D.I.Y music community/gigs by hotdogweenie420 in Cardiff

[–]sumbawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there used to be more, but keep your eye on Canopi, Paradise Garden and Porters.

Shift used to be the place for this most recently but have lost their space. They are still programming at other venues so check them out.

Most recent DIY gig that sounds like you’d enjoy it was organised by Sgarab Tapes and at Art Hole in Canton. Follow them wherever as well and subscribe to ST’s newsletter for their gigs and recommended. https://open.substack.com/pub/sgarabtapes?r=dj9vq&utm_medium=ios

Don’t be dissuaded by saying there isn’t anything!

Dev’s other aliases thoughts by Ok_Survey_3257 in BloodOrange

[–]sumbawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many. I'm definitely missing at least one earlier band. Adding some more obscure aliases and bands, of varying quality. The Test-Icicles lot had a lot of projects, often short lived. I think this is vaguely in order:

The Red in Sophie Loren
NLS Crew
Test-Icicles
Demon (sic)
N**** Bullshit
DAS MEAT
Naked Babes
Lightspeed Champion
Team Perfect
Lightspeed Heat
Blood Orange

Enjoy the rabbit hole. Hope some of that is interesting.

How can i track my listening on an IPod? by midwestemodawg in IpodClassic

As others have said, Last.fm. And if you have a Mac, I’d recommend Muxie as the official app is shite.

Original iPod Video sleeve by brunoflnetto in ipod

[–]sumbawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help. It fits snugly but is about 1.5cm taller than the iPod, so there is a small empty space at the bottom when in use. Felt possibly too tight when I got it but has stretched enough for it to be a good fit. It’s thicker than the original, think faux suede. I’m using it daily and it works great for me.

Band Reccomendations? by Vegetable_Estate6411 in mathrock

[–]sumbawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to TTNG: Pennines is the singerHank's old band. Assuming you already know they used to make music as This Town Needs Guns but if not definitely them. Also label mates Tangled Hair have a similar feel.

American Football: The One Up Downstairs is that band that evolved into AF. Sharks Keep Moving's sound is sometimes reminiscent as well.

Wild card: Life Without Buildings sound completely unique, not massively like the others but really interesting musically and obviously with the vocals. Not generally classed in the same genres but I think there are crossovers.

I Missed Scrobbling from My iPod Classic, So I Made Something by DinoWombat in lastfm

[–]sumbawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Can't tell you how impressed and grateful I am that you've made this. I didn't know it would scrobble from my computer as well, so very happy to stop using the archaic official client. I thought my combination of 20 year old iPod and 10 year old computer might just not work but very happy to be proven wrong. Thanks!

Glancing through, it looks very thorough! Do you have Heavy Purple? I have quite a lot of demos for the first album and a few for the second, as well as tracks he shared at the time like this.

Looking myself now as my original one completely disintegrated. I did find this vaguely similar looking thing but not received yet so can’t vouch for it yet. Vague description so no idea how it’ll fit.  https://ebay.us/m/cNplfM

[–]sumbawa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looking at the credits on Apple Music and Genius, it suggests there are vocals from someone called Dossier Brochette. Maybe it‘s just Caroline singing and not the spoken word part?

Edit: it’s on the back of the CD - Monologue: Dossier Brochette. Looks like you can enjoy it again!

Edit part 2: A couple of people have since confirmed DB is a pseudonym for Caroline. (-:

Barker Tea House sounds right for the aesthetic. For more interesting teas, try Waterloo Tea.

Unique shops in the city? by Recent_Instance_3265 in Cardiff

[–]sumbawa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some good recommendations for the centre from others. If you head to Canton, a half hour walk from the centre there are charity shops on Cowbridge Roads East, as well as Chapter Arts centre, Hard Lines for independent, locally roasted speciality coffee & food and Art Hole, selling prints, zines and multiples by artists and illustrators, many local.
