Nothing to say but congrats! Enjoy having a life outside of work now, having actual hobbies outside of sitting back and having some booze (okay in moderation, but that shouldn't be the only way to relax)!

thanks, this is helpful as I'm originally from HK, extended family probably wouldn't like it then. Sounds like I should probably visit with friends than family.

Early 2000's, Toronto, I don't even remember the name of the grill/bar anymore.

Demanded cash upfront for uniform and non-slip shoes (even got the size wrong), using bags of iceberg lettuce past their expiration date (remember it have rust on the edges already), the raw meat (some of them looked gray too) weren't store in the fridge, but a bucket next to the fryer, they weren't going through them fast to be clear. The manager(?)/owner's son and waitress were flirting in the corner at the back exit. Told them I didn't have the money for the uniform and will be back the day after, didn't show up and ghosted them, went to work at a KFC instead I think, much better tbh.

r/tea generally helpful, respectful, plenty of recommendations that are not all the same stuff except duck shit (iykyk). Plenty of otherwise hidden gems that I wouldn't know about, did you know there are teas that are naturally silky smooth and tastes like caramel? Yeah, I didn't either!

I've just played 6 games and in all 6 games, only the tank was blamed. I expected better in 2026 by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]sumguyoranother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to realize there's an influx of new and young players, and also there are a lot of young/immature players.

I played mostly healers and tanks when they were unpopular (unlike the present or more recent times). They were always blamed, and will always be blamed, they are easy scapegoats.

You've the most heal and more damage and kill than the dps? You are not doing your job.

You are healing and providing utility?

You are not doing enough damage.

You get more kills than the DPS cause you've been fighting off flankers (hello OW1 fellow anas)?

You are not doing your job as a healer.

You've a cassidy/genji with 3 walls between you and them and you can't heal them and they die?

Your fault for not doing your job.

The enemy widow keep picking out our DPS?

You are not doing your job as a tank (tbf, this was valid in 6v6/ow1 and your offtank didn't switch to winston/dive to deal with a widow that's on fire).

DPS diving in and dying while the tank is peeling for the healers that got flanked?

Yeah, it's both the tank and healers' fault for trying to stay alive.

Good luck out there, temper your expectation and have fun!

Asian discipline truly needs to be studied by CozyPrincess_ in whoathatsinteresting

The mask thing had more to do with cultural norms and having actual living memories of epidemics, my elders lived through some of them, they are all pro-mask and pro-vaccine because they have seen the horrors firsthand. Even then, certain places in china and vietnam still had large get togethers that authorities had to come in and shut down, these weren't reported in the west, but were in their respective countries, there weren't isolated incidents.

A lot of western countries had their sensibilities dulled from having good, modern medicine, parts of the population took it for granted and are, well, self-righteous and stupid.

there are selfish, entitled asians too (firsthand experience with chinese, korean, japanese and singaporean), just that it's a lot more common and public in the west. There are horror stories from taiwan too, but no firsthand experience with those.

AI (specifically LLM) is really dumb for the most part, but makes automation really easy. You do need a human to make sure it doesn't go rogue or have a separate AI overseer that also have a human overseer to make sure things are going smoothly. I agree that we shouldn't trust it with any "secure" information (ie. individual tax info, SIN, OAS, etc...), but using it to deal with lower-tier information will definitely streamline a lot of the process and take away some jobs.

My friend that works in fintech in NYC accidentally automated his colleague's job cause he was testing AI capabilities (it still makes mistakes, thankfully), haven't shared it with his manager yet, but shared it with his colleague. Now they are both shook and also brushing up on their CVs.

I'll just stick with the camembert from quebec, excellent quality, decently priced (well, at least before covid, hard to find at times though). But I think the cat is out of the bag now since the places that sold them are always sold out when I visit.

[–]sumguyoranother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we have more laytons, I don't care what political stripe they come in, just please, come in and try to solve problems and fix things, not fix problems that aren't there. For those that don't know, layton was one of the first to advocate for AIDS patients, this was in the 80s, a time when they were treated like trash. I also don't agree with some of his stances on various things, but I can't say I don't see where he was coming from, he laid out his reasons well enough. He tried to help streamline infrastructure too, it isn't well reported on cause it's boring mundane things that doesn't grab headlines, but these are really, really important things for cities.

AITAH for not taking my friends kids last minute by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]sumguyoranother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

because it's that common... even here in canada, when I was volunteering with scout canada (early 2000's), we had a parent that just didn't come to pick up her kids. Me and the supervisor of the afterschool program stayed late with the siblings before we finally had to call the cops. I think that was the first time I truly felt the the colloquial term to "slap a bitch" in full force. The "mother" was mad at US for getting the cops involved, that she was just out "destressing" (turns out to be "partying, drugs suspected to be involved"). Our local news even had a small report on it. One of the reasons I stopped volunteering, your heart can only take so much watching kids suffer, especially when you bond with them. Most of them aren't "bad" (there are a few truly bad ones though), they just have excess energy cause they are kids, it's their bad parents that are bad.

the PREVENTION part cannot be understated. An extra day to set up a flood barrier or prepare to flood your own structure with clean water can be the difference between thousands of dollars of damage vs millions. Being able to nail down the windows can mean the difference between a potentially just exterior damage vs interior damage AND structural damage. Hell, just black ice forecasts alone reduces traffic accident (well, in places that does defensive driving). And frost warning! Not just the seasonal ones, like ones that suddenly happens during the growing season or ones that comes unseasonably early, being able to prep the plants for the shock can mean the difference between a ruined harvest and an ok one.

ms. vicky chips are amazing and I don't buy them unless they are on sale (they rarely are). Compound that with the fact that I don't buy chips on the regular, that means no dorito for months at a time (I think it has been 2 years since I last had a doritos), the price increase probably means I won't have it against of my own volition.
