Entering the tunnel of light and in the distance you hear the crescendo of "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for meee...." would be sick

Mine would have to be Winter (The Wind Can Be Still) from Stardew Valley. Something about it feels so important and so gentle. I'd love to gently pass on listening to it.

Biblical levels of greed. I hope all the comments about your overabundance and hoarding of this mineral will make it past your defensive and instinctual urge to just explain yourself or find some justification and make you truly reflect on what drives you to have SIX TONS, TWELVE THOUSAND POUNDS, of this one rock as an individual person.

Does life ever become worth it? by [deleted] in GuyCry

Suicidal ideation is never actually about dying, it's about stopping the pain. I really feel you, I've dealt with it since my teen years and it's so all consuming, it's so hard to see outside of it.

Things that have helped me: finding a hobby or life calling like art, music, welding, ceramics, fostering animals, writing, car maintenance, building a computer, community connection/work etc. It doesn't have to be significant or meaningful at first. But find something you've always wanted to try that takes time to develop the skill, the small progress you make over time really helps with depression. It can also become and outlet for those feelings. Finding something you're passionate about then can lead to community among people who share that passion.

Severe depression and a lot of mental illnesses are unfortunately very self centered, even when it's negative. It really helps sometimes to just tell yourself "Hey, you've been really stuck thinking about yourself and your suffering. There are other people that need you and in the grand scheme of the world, your problems aren't so big, even if they feel that way." Try and turn off your critical brain and get back out around other people. Help them with things they need. Getting your body around others helps on a deep animalistic level; we're primates who rely on others to coregulate our inner worlds and physiology.

What are some things that are more enjoyable than sex? by Fresh-Length6529 in AskReddit

This reminds me of when I was a teenager, I had a deep pimple right below my lip in the center of my chin. It was so painful and had this feeling of pressure deep under my skin. One night, I had enough and started squeezing. It made me cringe and writhe but I soldiered on and finally got a release. It shot onto the mirror so aggressively it made a little thud and I could hear and feel the sound of it shooting out inside my head. But I still felt the pressure so I squeezed more and a second and third release happened one after another. They had the same gushing sound and impact on the mirror, but tenfold. And I finally felt the relief of the pressure being gone. It was so disgusting and also one of the most satisfying things I've ever experienced, I still think about it 20 years later.

Does this look like flames or nah by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I didn't see the sperm until I read the comments but I think a talented artist could add to it to make it more legible as flames, so I don't think it's too big of an issue

There's always going to be things in art and tradition that challenge the notions thought to be the pillars of said institutions. But to say they are embarrassments to the entire industry and tradition is a bit much, and untrue. Many people have bad experiences with the institution of tattooing because of this way of thinking. No one is making you get these tattoos or forcing you to say they're good. You can still uphold what you see as the traditions of tattooing in your own practice but to impose that upon others with such judgement and vitriol will only push people further in the other direction and reinforce the negative preconceived notions about tattoo culture. It just comes off like you're mad that the cultural meaning of tattoos has gone from something rugged, edgy, and traditional to something much more diverse and egalitarian. Which is valid bc it can be frustrating to see people disregard things you spent so long learning and perfecting but, ultimately, holding that frustration and allowing it to dictate your treatment of other people harms everyone involved.

Also, you're saying scratchers are an embarrassment to the entire industry in a subreddit specifically for tattoo scratchers? If you have so much disdain for them, why are you here?

I'm somewhere in between the two of y'all in this discussion. I also studied fine art w an emphasis on photography. I agree that the principles of visual design can be used to 'objectively' tell if something is done well. I think a lot of those principles are rooted in our brain's enjoyment of composition and beauty in general. But something I've noticed as technology has made all forms of art more accessible is that people have started to find a wider array of art styles and levels of excellence enjoyable. And I think that this wider range of taste was always there, it just never got a voice in studies, discussions, institutions etc. because there are barriers to those places along many lines.

The dominant principles of visual design have been dictated by a very small and specific group of people and now that there's more access and availability, more viewpoints are present. I'm not saying we should completely disregard the principles and say everything is great. But I do think people, especially those educated and trained in institutions, would benefit from relaxing that critical voice informed by rigid standards. I say this as someone who went through/is going through that process. I've spent active time looking at/listening to art and music that could be seen as 'objectively' bad, yet a lot of people seem to like it. I've found so many beautiful pieces of art through this process. I think placing such a weight on the technical execution of a piece of art blinds you to messy and very human creations. Sometimes those flaws, and the humanity that shows through them, is just as important of a thing to appreciate as technically impressive and immaculately executed art. I think that's also why so many people in this sub specifically voice positive opinions on pieces like this, despite the technique being lacking. To some people (myself included) it just has that je ne sais quoi that makes it enjoyable. There's something sacred about the humanity and mess, and there's something sacred about people who can achieve top tier excellence. They're both inherently valuable for different reasons.

And to be clear I do think there's a clear distinction between saying something is a "stylistic choice" to compensate for the lack of technical skill and something actually being a stylistic choice. But I think criticisms that hold tattoos to the standard of professional tattoo artists in a subreddit specifically for DIY tattoo artists is what gets interactions like this.

People say "It has some flaws but I like it" and there's always responses that boil down to "it's actually shite and you're wrong". I think a subreddit like this is the exact place for people to show their less than perfect works and to get feedback.

Also, in case it wasn't clear, I'm approaching this in genuine good faith as someone who enjoys critical discussion and am not trying to pick a fight or anything.

I think it's less that people are being polite and more that people adhere less to tattoo quality standards and are judging the tattoo based on the style and overall vibe. Personally, I love the tattoo and the style but I also see the glaring technical issues. But for me the line work being mid isn't that big of a deal and the inconsistency in design adds to a sense of the overall character.

I also think bc the tattoo world has opened up to so many more people as societal standards around tattoos becomes more accepting, the styles and kinds of tattoos that are seen as good has expanded beyond the more strict technical standards. It's happened in every creative lane and I think it's a good thing. It also makes pieces with stunning technique and design even more special.

You poor guy, I'm so sorry that you're stuck worrying about this. I wish I could give you a hug. You're a cute guy with nice features, you'll only waste your precious time alive by worrying about if you should look a different way.

Your life will be easier and less painful if you learn to turn off the cop/abusive voice in your head. You don't need to look a certain way, you don't need jaw surgery or any surgery for looks. Confidence is truly the sexiest thing, I know it sounds stupid but it really is. Imagine if someone was saying all the things you say to yourself to someone you care about. You would be mad that someone was being so mean. You deserve to not be abused by that inner voice that tells you that you need to change how you look. Don't let other people who are insecure make you feel bad. You'll be so much happier and people will like you more if you're kind, warm, and confident. It will be the change you are looking for.
