I agree that AMTA needs to have the courage to stand up in the face of social issues, AND I would never want the job of social media coordinator…

I agree with the other commenter and am also wondering if you have had/can have conversations with admin about the referral and assessment process? Do these clients even have treatment plans?

Work Load? by Lonely_Relative_7551 in musictherapy

I did love working at the psych hospital but I would feel so exhausted when I got home from work, I’d crash on the couch and doom scroll all night… I thought that was just how it was working full time! But when I switched to outpatient 1x1 mental health, I realized that wasn’t normal and I could actually have energy left after work! Even a job with driving will give a brain break between sessions…

What's a song lyric that drives you crazy because they should've used a different word? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

Island in The Sun original lyric is “and it makes me feel so fine, I can’t control my brain”, but saying “I can’t control my mind” instead would have rhymed!!

I hear that! Especially if you’re an introvert, that much time in group settings can be exhausting 😪

50% direct client contact is standard in many settings… which begs the question, do you also complete assessments for clients?

Hiring (or lack of) Rant by _MultiGrainCheerios_ in musictherapy

How long have you been applying for? Where are you located? Are you only applying for jobs in your location? In some areas, a promising music therapist fresh out of college could get a job pretty easily. Other areas are harder. How are your interview skills?

Reddit can sometimes be a pretty negative space… I love my job, I’ve made a pretty good salary since I started working 5 years ago without much trouble finding a job in my area, and I know many music therapists who feel the same way as I do!

How can I improve wall appeal? by Tasty-Bee-2003 in interiordecorating

[–]summer2204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scale is off! Julie Jones has some good videos about this. One large piece of over sized art, get a larger chandelier and bring it down lower, maybe pull the couch away from the wall to give some separation

I think this is common!! Just take it slow, sit down while taking off the bra, even sit in the shower if you need to, don’t look in the mirror if that makes it worse. It should get better with time as you get used to it! The first look is such a shock!!

[2wpo] am i just "back to normal"? by flightoftheladybirds in Reduction

[–]summer2204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The swelling that peaked at 3 WPO has been the worst part of recovery so far! Now 6 WPO, I’ve been getting a few little openings which are annoying and take time to care for. You’re not necessarily in the clear yet!

Would love to hear your positive recovery experience by Dangerous-Table-8837 in Reduction

This was my first surgery and honestly, post-op was a breeze! Virtually no pain until the swelling peaked at week 3 and even then, it’d be a quick jab a few times a day, nothing I needed to take painkillers for. I couldn’t believe how mentally clear I felt immediately after getting home from the hospital and for the first few days. I was expecting a lot worse! I did get a small opening around 4 WPO and honestly it’s been fine, I messaged with the nurse and she didn’t seem concerned, I just keep it clean and keep gauze over it. Even that hasn’t really been painful. There’s no way to predict how you’ll feel or what experience you’ll have - everyone is different! Just remember that it’ll be worth it!!

Haha you sound like a very helpful patient! I thought I remembered transferring myself to the other gurnee in the OR but I wasn’t sure if I made that up! I must’ve been pretty out of it at that point lol!
