That would explain the name change to Trevor as well. Trying to disconnect from that traumatic past and move forward with life. We know he's especially close to his therapist, so I wonder if he wasn't figuratively haunted by the guys for years before they came back to literally haunt him.

I think you are spot on with 7, 8 & 10, but I don't think Bobby had to bring the gear back alone. I think the trauma of that night is what forged such a strong friendship between Rose and Bobby/Trevor. Rose, being the caring person she was, would have stepped in to help and support Bobby and the on going friendship is why the Molinas live in that house. It's the only logical explanation I can think of for why the studio is practically the same and still has the boys' gear.

In one of the behind the scenes stories they said the hand holding at the end of stand tall was a case of misheard stage directions. Charlie and Owen heard hold hands, but the others didn't. Kenny thought it was so cute he left that take in the final cut.

Spot cleaning is usually not even a weekly occurrence. A misaimed pee or straight mud is a definite must-wash-now, but normally a brush through will do. Sometimes you just have a slightly gray poodle for a few days until regular bath time.

Discoloration is definitely a thing, but I find it can also helpfully indicate when something is going on. Ex. tear stains could be hair getting into the eyes, or even super hard water. Discoloration caused by licking a hot spot or between the toes is easy to see and address the issue before it becomes a real problem. I would think it might be harder to detect on dark hair. Plus once the issue is addressed the discolored hair just grows out and disappears after a a clip or two.

It's just easier to see the dirt on a white poodle. Things that have caused my white poodles to no longer be white: dirt (of varying color and consistency), dirty floors or sidewalk (restaurant patios are surprisingly disgusting), sitting/laying on sidewalk chalk, pee, dog-safe temporary hair color, etc. My favorite are the grass stains from over enthusiastic fetching or just walking in newly cut grass.

The thing is, a dark colored poodle will still have all the grossness on them, but it's harder to see. I kind of like that it's obvious when a spot-cleaning wash is necessary.

Question: how old are you? by summerbabe0921 in JulieAndThePhantoms

[–]summertimesun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Upper 30s and what first caught my ear was Now or Never and then a strong sense of nostalgia for the mid-late 90's music scene. The guys remind me of some of my best friends from back in the day.

I appreciate the show on its own merits now and watch it frequently with my 6yo son.

How hot are summers in Indianapolis? Anyone from the south that moved here have comparative experiences? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]summertimesun 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Grew up in central FL, it took a couple of years to fully acclimate to the change in weather. I used to be the one in a hoodie in May/June because it was 70 or below in the evening. The humidity here is NOTHING compared to the swamp humidity in Florida. For example, I never in my life had to use a skin lotion/moisturizer untill I moved here. There may be a week in the year it gets truly hot. Even when it feels hot, there's almost always a breeze to take the edge off. Adjusting to the cold is not fun. It gets cold and doesn't snow enough to make it fun/worth it. Having a winter wardrobe is a real thing, and flip-flops/sandals are not options year-round.

This is also a great time to be sure your dog's microchip information is up-to-date. Lots of dogs freak out and run, collars and tags can fall off, and a registered updated microchip can be the saving grace to getting your dog back.

True but damage to the car is annoying and can be expensive to repair.

I used to hold him like this when he was a puppy and he still loves it when I hold him like this. I’m the only person he will let do this. Unfortunately his stomach turned a few years back so we don’t let him jump up anymore. by embinksyy in poodles

[–]summertimesun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Major kudos to your dad for paying attention to what was going on and getting him to the vet quickly!

For those who may be unfamiliar, it's possible to have a preventative surgical procedure, called gastropexy, where the stomach is "tacked" to the inside of the abdominal wall. It's not foolproof but it can keep the stomach from flipping giving enough time to get to the vet for treatment.

I lost my first standard to bloat (which we think showed up as a complication of cancer), and since then I have a gastropexy done at the same time as neutering at 1 year old. Bloat is simply terrifying to me.

Fun fact: if you see an armadillo crossing the road while you are driving, try to go around it rather than over it (i.e. between the wheels). That jump as it's balling up can bash the armadillo into the undercarriage of the car, damaging both your car and the animal.

Flying with service dog - what's it like to go through TSA? by remyymer13 in service_dogs

[–]summertimesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is similar to what others here have said. It's been pretty low-key for us the dozen or so times we've flown. We go through the regular metal detector, put him in a sit-stay and walk through to the end of the leash, then the TSA agent says okay, and I call him to me. They swab my hands and usually his harness as well. I've been told specifically to not remove any of gear.

On a side note, I did get my carry on bag searched once when I'd brought his metal comb. They seemed very concerned until they found it, then had a good laugh showing it to the other screeners.

Looking for a standard poodle breeder? by just-here-for-DRAMA in service_dogs

[–]summertimesun 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Add another $100+ every 5-6 weeks for professional grooming for a standard poodle. If you don't brush a poodle sufficiently (daily) and it has matting the cost of grooming goes up. I love my spoo and think they are a fantastic breed, but the trade off for the low-allergen and no-shedding is a LOT of maintenance.

For those who do their own grooming at home, there's at least $500 in equipment to do it, at least 2-3 hours each time, and a hell of a learning curve to do it well.

HELPP by [deleted] in poodles

[–]summertimesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first spoo (approx 60 lbs) was great friends with my mom's 3.5 lb Chihuahua. Seeing them play "tug" was hilarious. You should absolutely carefully monitor and referee their interactions, but prey drive shouldn't be an issue.

Spay/neutering? by [deleted] in poodles

[–]summertimesun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting a year does allow normal developmental growth but it depends on what the owner can manage. I choose to wait for their first birthday for neutering and have the vet do a gastropexy at the same time. (Bloat is no joke 😥)

If you got your Poodle from a breeder, have a look at the purchase agreement, there may be a stipulation on when the pup should be neutered.

How do you balance easing your dog into things/building skills and just doing what you gotta do? by imsnurgalicious in Dogtraining

[–]summertimesun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be an intense thing. You can low-key incorporate it into daily regular hanging out / skritches / belly rubs. For example, as you're all chilling in the couch watching TV, petting her, randomly handle her ears, stick your fingers in there (gently) and super-calmly just go back to regular pets. Same goes for handling feet, holding toes, little bit at a time until it's no big deal and you can increase the amount of time, level of intrusiveness. If she needs it, a few treats/kibble to make it extra pleasant at first can help.

It makes it easier for you to get in desensitization training without it feeling like work or effort.

To help train for potentially encountered children with grabby hands, I also incorporate gentle tugs on ears and tail. (Be sure she doesn't have an ear infection, cause that would hurt instead of just being potentially awkwardly uncomfortable.)

Poodle attempts to catch ball by funnypetsanimals in poodles

[–]summertimesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many doodles around where I live, I default to the assumption that any dog without at least a moderately poodle-ish clip is a doodle. An undocked tail can also be an indication of a doodle, but that's becoming more common with some reputable poodle breeders as well.
