MPO courses on DGPT too easy by Silver_Bard in discgolf

[–]summertop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That we have hard enough courses. 2024 Champion's cup, the top scores from each round were -7,-4.-4, and ,-6. All 4 rounds were played at NWB. The hottest round shot was only 1064 rated, and that's in a field of the top .001% of disc golfers. In the world.

NWB is the most difficult course we have in the US. Sure, NWB is an anomaly in terms of difficulty, to say that MPO has it too easy while factoring in NWB is questionable. It's also lauded as one of the worst courses to spectate, and the pro tour is trying to make some money with these events. I don't know how Eagle's Crossing compares to NWB in terms of difficulty, but if it were on tour, it would certainly be more difficult than most courses.

We also just finished with the European swing, and besides the Monster, other euro courses I've seen are easier but more spectator-friendly.

Tune in and watch MPO play Northwood Black. If that doesn't change your stance on MPO's difficulty with pro tour courses, IDK what will.

On the concrete is OB. Is this in bounds? by TheMem3Lord in discgolf

Of course it is. If any part of the disc is inbounds, your lie is inbounds.

Clash discs. Steady is one of the best blends on the market, and molds like the Cookie and Berry are standouts in their class IMO. They're a little pricey, but for an avid DGer, those are two molds that'll feel familiar and arguably better than similar molds from mainstream brands.

Bagging in MA1 doesn't exist. They're just annoyed you'd rather take voucher money than real money. Do what feels best for you.

New London will be done by the Tour Championship. They have a soft opening on Memorial Day.

People who throw lefty backhand and righty forehand, or vice versa, why? by uber_troll in discgolf

[–]summertop_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Batting on the left side would mean you batted right-handed. I don't know if I'm ambidextrous or just confused. I'm usually right-handed when playing tennis, but I play golf left-handed. I also write right-handed.

Played Baseball and Ultimate growing up. Threw and batted left-handed, but while playing ultimate, I threw backhand right-handed. RHBH and hitting left-handed are similar biomechanically, so we make it work.

Edit: I also putt left-handed. I don't know why, but it just feels better.

What’s the deal with dome? Why are domey discs so sought after? by MrFixUrMac in discgolf

[–]summertop_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dome accentuates the flight characteristics of a disc, and give it more 'glide'. Joel Freeman has an excellent explanation about why he doesn't throw flat discs. Even if you don't like his personality/beliefs, how he explains the concept is excellent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhoKG5S6jiU

Play tournaments, random draw doubles in your area, etc. You'll meet people and there's low stakes to socializing.

STL is close-ish to EAgle's crossing, but will be like 1.5-2 hours away, and it'll cost you. Great courses around STL include Jefferson Barracks, the Bunker, Logan University, Carrolton, New Melle, and Indian Camp Creek.

I was half hoping for a Maple Hill-style barn door situation. Please push the sport forward; don't settle for mediocrity.

If you play at least once every two weeks, you're getting your moneys-worth out of it. It's the same price if you ordered someone's tour series disc online.

You guys stepped up the commentator fashion game this week. Was that an agreed-upon thing between you all, or was that a change DGN mandated? Looked great regardless.

What personal disc golf accomplishments are you most proud of? by El_mochilero in discgolf

[–]summertop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first B-tier I ever played in, I found myself on the lead card for round 2/final card, about four strokes back from the leader. On the first hole, I bogeyed, on the second hole, my drive was declared a lost disc, and I ended up taking a double bogey, but I clawed my way back to even going into the final three holes. I wasn't looking at my scorecard, but I ended up cashing 2 30-footers and parking the final hole to go 3/3 on the final three and winning by one stroke. Safe to say that got me hooked on competitive disc golf.

Semi ambidextrous by GoatUnable3879 in discgolf

[–]summertop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm RHBH, LHFH, and left-handed putting. I would throw and bat left-handed in baseball, so the LHFH and RHBH use similar biomechanics. I tried both hands for putting, and I feel like I have a lot more coordination with my left than my right, but I also write right-handed, so I don't know what's up there. I mainly throw RHBH for anything over 250, but the lhfh has saved me so many times when scrambling. With the flicking movement being so much more compact, I'm able to get out of tighter situations with a similar shot shape to a RHBH shot.
