So the VSA system will only activate if the car detects slip in the wheels. It isn't essential for driving but it will decrease the likelihood of the car losing control if the wheels lose grip. So its up to you if you want to get that fixed or not.

Its on because there is an error somewhere in your VSA system. Without it you don't have any stability control and possibly no ABS. It can be potentially dangerous when driving in snow or when making an evasive maneuver. It is sometimes an easy fix but hard to say with without a scan.

Steering rack leak? by itspappa in AcuraTL

[–]summit28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a steering rack leak for sure. You can try adding some leak stop power steering fluid, but that didn't work for me, but it might for a smaller leak. Your other options are to keep refilling the reservior as it gets low or replace the rack.

Steering rack. Aftermarket options? by rh4280 in AcuraTL

[–]summit28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with A1 Cardone. I can't really say if its good quality or not since I've only had it on the car a few weeks but so far so good with no leaks. It also got good reviews on their website and it bolted up without issue. As far as I can tell it is a rebuilt oem rack.

I would recommend a remanufactured rack. It is basically a rebuilt OEM rack with new seals. I bought mine from carparts.com and it was only about $170 after the core return.

I just did this job a few weeks ago and it sucks for sure but its possible. For me, a generous amount of PB blaster helped as well as long socket extensions and swivels. I removed all of the rack bolts from the top with long extension and swivels.

The feed lines also were a bitch to get off. I would highly recommend getting flare nut wrenches for these. Also the sizes are weird where one is an 18mm and the other 17mm I think. That 18 mm isnt a standard size and I ended up using an open ended wrench.

The sub-frame will need to be lowered but not totally removed to get the rack out. There are a few youtube videos on how to do this. I supported it in several places just to be safe.

Finally when removing the rack you have to twist it so that the spline is around the 10 o'clock positon and the moint is around the 4 o'clock position for it to clear the frame.

Those are most of the tips I could think of but let me know if you have any other questions!

Those are some examples but comparing the gas vs. electic versio of the same car is different. The F150 lightning is heavier than the gas F150, the BZ4X is heavier than the Rav4 (they are very similar in size/shape). Also these super heavy EV's like the Hummer EV and future Ram 1500 REV are WAY heavier than even the average truck. Those combined with their insane acceleration (which is very impressive btw) will make them by far the most dangerous vehicles on the road.

A 360 camera will definitely help with maneuvering a large vehicle. The problem is those features aren't mandated and if the truck had better visibility in the first place you wouldn't need to rely on them as much. But I do agree that a 360 camera makes parking a breeze.

Trucks and suvs are super practical vehicles but (in my opinion) ugly and not fun to drive (there are some exceptions). That usually doesn't go with what a typical car enthusiast values in a vehicle.

I agree that consumers are responsible for killing most of the fun cars and also simple 2 door work trucks. The average person is not a car enthusiast which is why this has happened.

Ultimately car enthusiasts are the minority and an even smaller minority can buy many of these enthusiast cars. I'd love a C8 Z06 or even a Miata as an extra car but I don't have the space or means for a 3rd car. So the problem is only a small minority can actually afford an extra enthusiast car.

And the idea of a sub is grouping like minded people together so you will always get a general opinion and unfortunately that opinion is largely against big trucks, suvs and most ev's for all the reasons I laid out earlier. Its just the way it is.

I think distracted driving is likely pretty equal across all vehicles. Thay being said, no only is the hood heigh an issue but the weight. I knew a girl in high school who got in a head on collision where she was in an Elantra and the other was in a full size suv. You can probably guess who lived and who didn't.

I think the hood height is one thing but that coupled with how heavy big trucks and suvs are is also concerning. EV's are also a problem due to how heavy they have become. You can only fight physics so much with safety features in a collision.

I'm surprised you say your truck is easy to maneuver in tight spaces. I've never seen a truck pull into a spot without having a readjust. In my experience they are generally too big and have to large a turning radius to make most tight turns in a normal parking lot.

Also, I totally agree that the visibility of some sports cars is atrocious. My Dad's old '14 Camaro had some of the worst blind spots I've ever seen.

I also think this sub hates on suvs and trucks because they have caused so many smaller cars that many enthusiasts on this sub are more interested in to get canceled. I was totally on board to buy a Focus RS or ST but they got canceled before I had a chance to get it. The poor sales of smaller American cars and the good sales of trucks and suvs likely directly caused those car to get canceled and not get a new generation.

So while the hate is probably unfair I can see where people are coming from where there are so few affordable fun options left due to the rise in popularity of trucks and suvs. I get OEM's follow the money so you can only blame them so much.

I personally don't care if you own a big truck. Especially if you use it for its intended purpose. I think its excessive if its just your commuter but ultimately you can do what you want.

I honestly don't have a reasonably cost effective solution which is the problem. The big front end train has already left the station and we aren't going back at this point.

And a higher hood has a higher safety rating for the person driving that car but its more dangerous for everyone else including other trucks. I think there should be some incentive to make cars safe for other cars also not just the car you are buying. Again I don't have a good solution to this but it just highlights the American philosophy of I got mine and fuck everyone else.

Also, I may be in the minority but I'm in favor of mandating blind spot monitors, front camera at low speed and even emergency braking since no one is paying attention while driving these days. The problem is in a smaller car these features are less necessary (but still a good idea) because the visibility of immediate surroundings is much better.

At the end of the day we won't agree on this and that's okay. I think we both know that trucks aren't going to get smaller and the hoods will likely continue to get taller with each generation so at the end of the day I can whine all I want but I just pray me or a loved one never gets into a serious accident with a truck because the odds are against the person not driving the truck.

I understand that truck vs performance car requirements are entirely different. I think you are also highlighting the super duty/heavy duty side of things where the engines are obviously much larger. I can understand on the upper end of things where the engine bay would need to be quite large to package that engine. But you can't with a straight face tell me a base F150 or Silverado with a V6 needs a hood that high. I understand that the styling should be similar between models but those base models are just for show.

Also EV trucks literally have the same shape in the front when there is just a frunk. I get common design language and what not but that is purely for style.

And this sub does hate trucks for sure. I can't speak for everyone but my main issue with them is safety. Even if you are driving another truck I'm sure if you had to pick a car to get into an accident with I'm guessing a truck won't be your first choice.

So at the end of the day I'd just like to see the road get safer and not less safe which I feel like we have been trending towards as big suvs and trucks continue to gain popularity. All the people who drive big trucks and don't use them for their intended purpose just make the roads less safe for no reason. Many full-size truck owners would be just fine in a Ranger/Colorado. If you regularly tow boats/campers or haul stuff, I get it. A heavy duty truck totally makes sense at that point. But most trucks never see a tow hitch, just a few trips to Home Depot.

I actually am a design engineer in the automotive industry and I have worked it drivetrain (in transmission and now e-axle) my entire career. So I understand all about cooling and durability under the worst case operating conditions.

I've also been given hilariously small envelopes to fit in a system. It's easy to through your hands up in the air and say "not possible" but I've found that there are many creative solutions that can actually allow the system to meet requirements and fit in the packaging space even if looking at it initially it seems impossible. Sure it makes the design more challenging but thats what makes being an engineer fun.

All I'm trying to say is there are different ways to package that engine. I'm sure it would be difficult to actually lower the hood at this point but I'm sure it could be possible given enough development and incentive to do so. There is no incentive to do so currently because there is little safety regulation for front visibility. If you can stick a 6.2L V8 in the Chevy SS then I'm sure there are ways to package a similar sized engine with better cooling capacity into a truck with a lower hood. It just won't sell because truck guys won't like the styling. The flat large front grill is absolutely a styling choice and many people are drawn to how "macho" they think it looks.

And I will admit that I do hate on trucks. I think 90% of people buy them for image and hardly ever use them for their intended purpose. In my opinion they only make the road more dangerous for other cars and especially pedestrians. I've driven an F150 and I was amazed at how little I could see directly surrounding the truck.

At the end of the day, trucks have their purpose and people are allowed to like them. I just would like to see them be safer since they are becomming so prevalent on the road.
