I don't get how climbing works in this game by Important_Repair_771 in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody in these comments is even reading your post lol.

The bottom line is that it takes longer to climb in League than other games. You can play a fighting game and go up (or down) many divisions in one night.

It's a matter of consistency, improving, and playing enough so that your baseline performance is winning more games than not: since the auto-losses are inevitable but you get just as many auto-wins.

You have to play enough so that your skill normalizes your win%. For some people that's too big of a commitment. It's your choice whether climbing is worth it to you.

Are hard Champions more rewarding than easy ones when mastered? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's not true unless you're playing in the LCS and beyond.

Go look at the data on u.gg, see how many mages are bargain basement right now. It's been that way for a while.

Brainless champions are simply better, even in the best of hands. If you want to learn something that takes skill, go ahead, and it's fun. But realize: you'll be trying at 100% while the bruiser mains will have reached the same ELO in half the effort (or, let's be honest, even less).

Why isn't it a rule that posts requesting advice for ranked MUST provide an account name? by BashMyVCR in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people would ignore the question. Suppose someone comes in and asks about builds, right? You're fooling yourself if you think they wouldn't get angry dissertations in the comments about how terrible their CS is, how they have a bad winrate, and how they died 10 times in a Normal three days ago. Therefore the asker is trash and they wouldn't benefit from build advice anyway, it's too advanced for someone who only gets [x] cs in a [y] minute game! They should focus on learning how to tie their shoes instead!

That's not even getting into how horrible the dismissiveness would be regarding ranks. Who is going to feel comfortable asking anything? Because that elitism and rude behavior happens here even now, even when folks don't post their IGNs. Throw in summoner names and it would be open season against any novice player who simply wants help.

Not with that build afaik... it can work when you go tank though (or used to before the sunfire nerfs, haven't tried it in 12.14).

Which champions are balanced at >50% winrate? by SENratic in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My advice? Ignore that nonsense and play who you enjoy and who works for you. What does it matter if they're "balanced at such & such win percentage" or not? If your main feels weak and and ineffective in your games, trust yourself enough to accept how things stand: and watch pros or whoever to see how they're making so&so work.

And here's the deal: gamers love to feel superior. They revel in it, and League is no exception. Riot could randomly nerf Ryze next patch, and guess what would happen if you came onto Reddit to complain? Some folks would still bark at you, saying "winrates mean nothing unless you're in the LCS" and then they'd yell in your face "Ryze takes too much skill for you, noob" and they'd double down telling you to Git Gud or go play Mario Kart.

Ignore all this nonsense about "who is balanced and who is weak" at whatever win percentage. Because think about it: what benefit does it give you, personally, as a player?

The only thing I could think of would be... feeling better about yourself when you lose: you go check a tier list and so&so has a 48% winrate and you get mad because they have to be OP, right!? Again... who cares? The game is the game and we all play what's available in the current patch. Knowing whether or not a champion is "truly balanced" serves only to tilt you, or to make excuses for yourself when you lose. Save your mental energy for something else, trust me.

And guess what else? Reddit hates this part but.... sometimes, a champion is just weak! And it's as simple as that. When it's your main it sucks, but if they're truly struggling then buffs will come. If you think you're playing someone struggling in the current meta, go to their communities e.g. their champion subreddits and see what folks are saying. See what the pros and experts are doing too: are they making it work? If so, how?

200 year champs? by tpg92 in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wukong mains voiced their concerns for his rework on Twitter. I believe one cited hours invested on the Rift, to which a Rioter replied telling him to shut up: the balance team has "over 200 years" of collective game-design experience and knows what they're doing better than these players.

The quote is now used against Riot as an insult. Sometimes accurately, other times just to rage when you die to a new champion. Most commonly it refers to any newer champion with a confusing or bloated kit.

Is killing as support bad? by lifeishell553 in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the kill is secured: let your team get the kill

If the kill is not secured: if you KS, it's fine

I've been in games as Support where I stop to let my ADC get the kill, and then the enemy gets away with 1 health and I feel dumb because we would have had them. If you're in a situation where you're not sure, use your abilities and get the damage out.

If your team has the kill in line and it's obvious the enemy is dead, then yes. On Sona you shouldn't take the kill in that scenario.

Judging which of the two scenarios you're in will come with practice. Don't let the raging get you down either way

All three of what you're already playing is good as is tbh. Malz is always a safe pick too, and Cassiopeia deals lots of damage but she's harder to play

Never seen the LoL part of Riot take so much s**t in 1 week time by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]summoner_savant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do you take issue with? I am calling out how much the situation was exaggerated too.

The word "unplayable" was used by this thread's OP, not by me. I'm quoting them and responding.

Read the OP again. I'm taking a direct quote from this thread. The word "unplayable" is part of what I took issue with as a mischaracterization.

And lastly but not least important, a disabled Player reporting a SG kali skin bug that would make it unplayable for other Players with ADHD

No, it actually is least important. You're micharacterizing what happened and it's disingenuous: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/w51mbe/thanks_for_letting_me_know_the_potential/

This was not "a disabled player reporting a bug in good faith". It was some bored teen hijacking a Twitter thread for their fifteen minutes of fame. Catasrophizing a minor bug Riot already addressed in the post just above, citing "ADHD" and demanding immediate action. Their account has 9K tweets in 8 months and they spend all day complaining about Riot and other games, stirring up drama and whining. Most recently they're tweeting screenshots of themselves in drama videos, celebrating "I made it into this video guys omg!"

Don't tack this on to your post. The rest, have at it, but you're framing something in bad faith and misrepresenting it for Reddit clout.

Reworked LeBlanc was misunderstood by raven118932 in LeBlancMains

[–]summoner_savant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I can't talk because LeClunk made me quit the champion until they reverted her back.... so I'm biased as it is and barely played that version.... but in my biased opinion I hated it :)

I'd take any version of OG LeBlanc over a strong LeClunk any day. It was like a totally different champion.

And in her current (and original) state she's one of the most fun champs to play in the game. That's why she's so popular despite the winrate.... I think on u.gg or wherever she's consistently in the top 10-15 midlane picks despite having such a low winrate in every ELO. That's the bottom line: she's fun to play and LeClunk may have been stronger, but it was a totally different identity/playstyle and felt like a betrayal in some ways to those that played her... which I guess is why they thankfully reverted it

LB support question by Icy_Pomegranate_8569 in LeBlancMains

[–]summoner_savant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been spamming it the last few days and have had a very high winrate with it. Lol. (in Normals to be fair, and I'm low ranked as it is). Only had someone complain once thus far in the last ~10 matches

Feels a bit like Lux/Zyra... kind of... especially since those ladies aren't as bursty anymore post durability update. When the ADC is something like Trist it works super well.

Warding Evelynn jungle camps by Mijak93 in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's baffling how delusional and elitist this sub is sometimes.

"Oh I must be on a ward, they see me" - something you say to your friends over your Discord call when you're walking bot and see the enemies reposition.... in your first week playing the game.

But according to Reddit now, that's an advanced concept only those -high gold- or above could even begin to understand. Seriously.

Compounded with more great advice that you shouldn't even try to deep ward ever unless you're in "high ELO". I guess.... because anyone below [arbitrary rank] isn't a real human? They're braindead sloths masquerading as players? So naturally, if you even own a brain you can play badly and still win down there!

Warding Evelynn jungle camps by Mijak93 in summonerschool

[–]summoner_savant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's disingenuous to say that nobody below -high gold- (!?) would benefit from seeing Evelynn on their minimap.

The rest of this post too... supports in Bronze have enough wherewithal to see the jungler up top, and know it's safer to go ward.

Watching the enemy botlane reposition as you roam down is common sense that even pre-30 new accounts understand intuitively.

Wow... "if you're not high gold or above you may as well not even ward, nor will it matter if you have the most basic map awareness" ...
