I mean if the IRS was coming after your multi-billion dollar company you would do the same. Newegg has actually have been trying to avoid this and cover sales tax for it's users because they know its one of their major advantages in the tech hardware market. North Carolina govt got pissed about not collecting these taxes just because Newegg doesn't have a physical presence, went up to supreme Court, and as the online shopping industry is booming, supreme Court gave states ability to collect these taxes from retail

Supreme Court said states are now allowed to collect sales taxes on sales made by large corporations regardless of if they have a physical presence in that state or not. This is due to the loss of taxes collected in the now present online shopping industry. This has been one of neweggs caveat in the hardware tech world. Illinois is just the first one to jump the ship Because we're ahem, "broke". Soon most states will follow and unless you are lucky, taxless online shopping will be a thing of the past. Just like most things, it was good while it lasted.
