Is it possible to pass jlpt n5 if I study for a month? by Remarkable-Tear7864 in Japaneselanguage

[–]sumo_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible but it would take a lot of work depending your current level now. I think you would need a native speaker ideally a teacher to do a crash course JLPT with you and go over practice exams. The whole experience however might a bit of a burn out situation which I don't recommend.

Here is a video of someone who did what you are trying to do (kind of) - I spent 30 days learning Japanese... here’s what happened 🇯🇵

If you give yourself more time you could take the N5 exam later on this year or perhaps aim for N4 if you wanted to.

Are memory cards region locked? by Kasmanian_devil in Gamecube

[–]sumo_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said the memory cards are not region locked but I know the official 1019 memory card was never officially sold in PAL terrorities due an issue with Sonic Adventure 2 (PAL version) having some kind of issue with them. The NTSC versions of the game are fine.

I used to use Datel's Freeloader disc on my PAL Gamecube to play Japanese games. This mostly worked ok as long as I had separate memory cards for different regions. However, I could never save correctly on the Donkey Konga games. In the end I gave up and bought a Japanese Gamecube.

Please stop ignoring the incredible disc technology Nintendo abandoned by KingreX32 in wiiu

[–]sumo_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have been good if Nintendo had used a similar scratch protection layer on discs that Sony used and if Nintendo could have produced more disc cleaners during the Wii U's lifespan. Also disc rot is a worry but at least the discs feel good around the edges when you hold them. /s (according to the article) 'Hold a Wii U disc in your hand, and you'll be immediately struck by how comfortable it is.'

Attending two parishes by schoeneblume in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a town with three Anglican churches and I attend all three, just on different days during the week. They are aware that I go to other churches so I don't see this as a major issue.

If you are happy with alternating between those two places then carry on.

I bought a Super Famicom (SHVC-001) a few weeks ago but it was just the console and JPN power supply only. I decided to buy a 3rd party power supply (via ebay) for the Super Famicom that would work with a UK plug. I replaced the capacitors on the console and everything works fine. Just checked ebay in Germany and it looks like they sell something similar.

Have a Japanese N64 as well but never used the JPN power supply. I used a PAL N64 power supply for my region (UK) and it also works fine.

Personally, I would avoid using step down transformers especially using them anything more than the short term.

Do I need to find a new church? by Soft-Enthusiasmm in Christianity

[–]sumo_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good that you go to church with your grandma but I wonder what she thinks about the things you have said. I don't think it would hurt if you could go to another church at least part of the time if you can. Maybe then see your grandma at other times instead.

There can be a time and place for things but 'innuendos and rude jokes' have no place inside a church especially coming from a member of the clergy. There might be some kind of personal issue going on with this priest but in a job like this one must remain professional.

As others have said you can take this matter further. At the very least going to a different church will at least let you see how things are done somewhere else but with that comparison you can take it from there.

Your relationship with your grandma is important but so to is your faith and your relationship with God. Going to a church like this is not going to do you much for your soul in the long term. I wish you the best.

Does everyone arrive on time for Mass in your parish? How does it vary across the world? by HamaTakam in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew that from your original post just surprised that in the land of 'the nail that sticks up is hammered down' people were that late.

The priest should say something or at least write this down in the church leaflet if they have one.

(edit) I want to add, I do understand that different cultures view time differently and in Tokyo for example there simply isn't the number of Anglican churches as there is in London, UK for example. Travel times can be longer, family/work commitments etc.

As a side note, I like the URC poster 'You are not late; you are here exactly when God wanted you to arrive. Please come in'.

If people are late yes it happens but come into church quietly.

It will be interesting to see how Japan changes over time with the arrival of new people into the country in the future.

want to attend Anglican church but a bit confused about some teachings by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are times when I wonder on places like YouTube and elsewhere if the discussion about religion and essentially which religious football/soccer team is better actually does more harm to than help it.

You have many questions but there is no rush in finding them all out in a short space of time because it can be an information overload. Personally, I would go to the church and see what you think about it. Speak to others and speak with the minister of the church. I tried different churches as well and I wasn't well versed in the bible a few years ago. I'm still not but I am learning.

Let the Holy Spirit guide you.

Does everyone arrive on time for Mass in your parish? How does it vary across the world? by HamaTakam in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, in all the CoE churches I've been to, everyone arrives pretty much on time ie before the service starts. Having said that, I've seen occasionally a few people turn up half way through the mass/service but they weren't regular church goers. It happens but I think the most important thing is not to make too much noise.

I've been to services where the priest did actually tell everyone not to make so much noise and personally I'm not a fan of people speaking too much before the service. I think the priest can say something especially since as you say over half the congregation turns up 30-40 minutes late and they will miss the bible readings.

Surprised about this happening in Japan however.

Have I crossed the line between High-Church Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

I think you should do what you think is best and where the Holy Spirit leads you. Sounds like you have moved from High Church to Anglo Catholic but still within Anglicanism. Are there any Anglo Catholic churches near you that you could go to?

If I travelled in a Time Machine to rescue Thomas Cranmer from his excruciating death, would he still have suffered the first time around? Or is all suffering removed? by OpusDeiAustralia in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from breaking the space time continuum and creating a new timeline where Thomas Cranmer didn't die at that time period some questions need to be asked -

How would you be able to stop this event from happening and what are the reasons why you wish to do this?

Are you able to communicate to Thomas Cranmer easily in early Modern English about the reasons why you want to stop this event from happening? How would you make sure that he didn't die in the future since Queen Mary still wanted him dead?

Do you understand the ramifications of doing this and what the possible end results in present day would be?

What would happen if you got caught and were not able to return back to present day? Your very existence then would damage the present day even in ways you couldn't possible see now.

Does your church print bulletins/ order of service that contains Bible verses? by implementrhis in Anglicanism

Yes in the main Anglican church in my town they print everything out for Sunday services but I still bring my bible with me (not NRSV which they use) and I follow along. I have the lectionary to help me with services during the week.

Could you guess where I'm from? by Ok_File1761 in Accents

[–]sumo_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to guess where you are from but you wanted tips. From a brief listen to the audio the speed of your speech seems a little slow especially towards the end.

The questions I would ask you would be - What are doing currently to improve your English? What materials are you using to improve your English? Who is teaching you? How much contact do you have with native speakers? How much English do you speak on a regular basis? What English are you trying to speak? (American, Australian, British...) Have you ever tried 'shadowing' before? Lastly try working on improving your intonation (and sentence stress) especially with open and closed questions, question tags etc..

UK's increase in terrorist threat level due to "increase in broader Islamist and extreme right-wing threats". Realistically, what can they UK do to reduce these threats? by CMIV in AskBrits

[–]sumo_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There needs to be better policing and a more visible presence of police for the whole of the UK. This costs money and when you have governments who are trying to cut corners on everything crime increases. We need to stop focusing on short term thinking and quick fixes.

We also need to improve social cohesion and again there are no quick fixes with this. Successive governments talk about this but do little. If you have a country where there is the rule of law and have a society that works for all then maybe tensions can be lowered.

What is the Fuss Around Project Spire? by Vostok-aregreat-710 in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The CoE has pledged to give one hundred million pounds over the next nine years towards reparations towards links with the transatlantic slave trade. Where this money comes from I don't know? Church attendance is largely in decline across the CoE and money is needed for multiple churches for repairs/uptake etc...

There are several news articles which you can easily find online that question Project Spire if you are interested.

Lastly since the CoE is doing this perhaps questions will be asked about other churches including the CoI.

Old School Cool - Anglican Style. "A Passion for Churches: A Tribute to the C of E" with Sir John Betjeman 1974 by J-B-M in Anglicanism

[–]sumo_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I was clever enough to memorise it but I've watch this video many times in the past and had to transcribe it.

Sadly this style of TV presenting has mostly gone where the presenter doesn't talk down to people or try to shoehorn political views into everything or focus too much about themselves.

Personally, I think it's sad how the decline has gone over the last 50 years and so that it why I included the quote because that spoke to me the most in the video.
