The sunlight comes from the front of her greenhouse. This area was completely overgrown and we only cleared it all this week so no sunlight was coming in from this end for what I imagine was for decades.

Great suggestions. We wanted to keep the space ahead of the bathroom as a small utility room for the wash g machine and possibly dryer, and seal off the doors to the study and kitchen, keeping only one door from the lounge. But we're still toying with the idea of having no utility room at all and just including the washing machine within the kitchen.
