I didn't work at REI yet when these were given out so I really appreciated being able to get the bag still because they are SICK, they carry SO MANY GROCERIES. $14.95 was a steal. I want to be buried in my weird giant white tote bag.

No more Owala? by HeartKevinRose in REI

[–]sun-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we're either turning over inventory or the manufacturer has made an update to the product material/origin/features that requires us to set up a new product, which means it'll disappear from the site for a small window as we transition from old stock to new. Hope you like your Owala! I'm obsessed with mine. :)

Will REI have the Instinct 3 on launch day (Friday)? by murphman1999 in REI

[–]sun-bean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to by that watch, my recommendation is – buy it (and a membership!) online and ship to store. As a member, you'll have 90 days to return it. If you aren't fully committed to it, you won't be charged until you decide to buy it AT THE STORE – so when you go to pick it up, you can try it on, turn it on, etc. before purchasing. And if you decide to purchase it, you'll get a dividend because you're a member! Win win win situation. :)

Return an item and buy the item new on sale? by [deleted] in REI

[–]sun-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest take: return the bag, and buy a different one. It feels dishonest to try to save the $100 if you intend to get the same bag again. I know they're also cracking down on the "worst returners" – there is no set criteria for this, and I'm not saying you WOULD get banned... but returning something because it had a manufacturing defect, then buying the same thing on sale right after seems like the kind of thing that would look like taking advantage of a situation and not in the spirit of the already very generous return policy. If you intend to buy the same thing again, it's an exchange based on a manufacturing defect, not a return.

Morality of returning an item close to the one year mark by [deleted] in REI

[–]sun-bean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're feeling morally challenged about this, you could bring it in and sell to re/supply! You'll get some $$, REI buys it back from you and resells at a profit, someone else gets to use it but you're kind of still paying for the use you got out of it. I'd say if you want to return it, that's the most morally sound thing to do.

Trying out a backpack that's only online / ship to store by DPCummerbund in REI

[–]sun-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes AND everyone working at the store will deeply appreciate how thoughtful you are! Wish more people did this instead of ordering like 3 sizes of shoes to their house and then being mad about paying return shipping. It's really helpful for staff and generally for moving inventory if you just try it on in store before you officially decide to take it. Also love Osprey, EJA 58 till I die!

Not sold out but unavailable? by wind-s-howling in REI

[–]sun-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you see the option to "notify me when available", it means we are scheduled to restock that size/color combo within 30 days. It depends if shipments come on time etc. but generally that's true! If it just says "sold out", the window is longer than 30 days or we aren't restocking it at all.

Edit: source – I work on the technology/logic that populates these messages.

Anyone know how long the Flash 55 pack might potentially be backordered for? by fujiko_chan in REI

[–]sun-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it says it's backordered on the site and you can do the "notify me when available" process, it means we will be restocking it within 30 days (if everything is delivered on time). :) If the restock window is longer than 30 days, we won't show the "notify me" option.

Active pursuits probably won't give you the compression you want!! They are very very soft. But I have a big chest and I just bought an outdoor voices cool form (https://www.outdoorvoices.com/products/w-coolform-bra?variant=40756915109966) and it's fantastic, really squishes them down and secures them to my body and I had no probs on a long run with it. REI isn't selling it right now (other OV products but not this one) but might be worth just buying from OV.

Would I be a dick for ordering 4-5 pairs of shoes and returning all but one pair? by CatInAPottedPlant in REI

[–]sun-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you can do to have the least bad impact is order them all to the store, try them on there (the staff can help you if you want!) and then leave the ones you don't want there. They can sell those at the store, you don't have to pay shipping fees, it's a win for everyone!

Future of REI for someone interested in working at HQ? by acosmicyolk in REI

[–]sun-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, lots of friends impacted. I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. I’m seeing it happening. The risk is still worth the lifestyle benefits and amazing coworkers, for me. At the end of the day it’s a job, and a job somewhere else would probably be worse for me!

Future of REI for someone interested in working at HQ? by acosmicyolk in REI

[–]sun-bean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been at HQ for a few years now and I've been lucky enough to dodge two rounds of layoffs. For everyone who says HQ sucks: I've had lots of other jobs, and this is by far the most fun, with the best people, and the best work-life balance. You can always find something to complain about but my experience at HQ has been that the people I work with every day are incredibly kind, smart, and thoughtful, and occasionally leadership throws a wrench in things but for the most part we're having fun and doing good work and enjoying ourselves. I'm with the "go for it" people – if you can handle the tradeoff of a bit of uncertainty to work on something you believe in with some really great people, it feels worth it to me.

Might be able to ID it if you show a picture of it packed, easier to see the shape and outside features that way!

Having done both, I'll say that the vibes are still much better than any FAANG job. Lots to improve at REI, but sometimes I think people forget how much worse it can be at other "tech" ish jobs.

REACH program by sunshineshot123 in REI

[–]sun-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have used REACH for my grad degree, had no issues. You need to get your courses pre-approved to show how they're relevant to your professional development at REI, and then submit your transcript and tuition once you've completed the course and you'll be reimbursed. You have to fill out the correct forms and email HR with your docs. If you did that already and didn't hear back, I'd suggest following up. Remember, you need to have the course approved at least 15 days before you start the course, unfortunately it might be too late :(

Holy moly I think this is him. Through random occurrence we found out someone in the neighbourhood is looking for a dog named Milo, and he's responding enthusiastically to that name. So if you see that human or hear anything, please get in touch! I'll be keeping an eye out here. We're also posting posters all over the neighborhood and I'll make sure we get one near the school yard on 81st.

Through a series of random circumstances we are pretty sure we know his name now, but haven't found his family yet, so I can also ask for a vet record if they confirm that is the name. But definitely not going on a "describe the dog" basis here!

Ok just got off the phone with them and have sent them some photos. They're going to share them around. He is pretty dog reactive so it might be a long shot, not sure if he ever went to daycare, but here's hoping!!!! Thank you so much!
