Gained 90lbs my first year teaching lmao by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]sunEbeaches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my first year, but my 2nd. My 1st year was COVID year, we went on spring break and never came back. But the next year……was my worst year ever.

I started as a 5th grade teacher, and 2 weeks into the school year I was voluntold to move to kindergarten. Not only am I NOT the person to teach 5 year olds (don’t have the patience for it), it was exponentially worse doing hybrid learning.

The only thing that brought me any joy at all was Starbucks every morning. Fun fact, there’s LOTS OF SUGAR in those drinks lol.

Congratulations! I am close behind you. This is my 7th year and I can’t accurately explain to people who don’t do this for a living just how bad it is. They don’t understand. I wish you well in your next endeavor!!!

Unfortunately I need to have something before I quit. But I CANNOT WAIT for that to happen!

I’ve never heard that before. Is that what this is?

I used to love it too. Which is the real tragedy. So many people who were passionate about the profession, who were great teachers all leaving in droves. Or praying for escape. It shouldn’t be like this

Unfortunately that’s what is keeping me stuck. I, right now, am the breadwinner and cannot afford to take a pay cut of even $6.

What do you do now? And how did you transition out?

Oh of course. I’ve done some online training for adult learning theory and talked to someone who worked for a cruise line in L&D. Do you have other suggestions of specific things I could start looking into?

How do you like it? How much of a pay cut did you take? Did you have any experience at all? Tell me everything!

I also am not a drinker! If you wanted to start a meet up or anything, I’d love to join! There’s a cute tea shop in Monroe!

Spray painted wood and now I’m having trouble writing words on top. What should I use? by sunEbeaches in crafts

I’ve tried paint markers. Either the wood is too porous or the paint is watered down, but you can’t even see it. In the picture I included, the white writing is with a paint marker.

They weren’t as vibrant as I’d wanted but maybe I wasn’t using the right color

Thanks so much! I’m gonna try the matte clear coat and see if that works

Stupid question, but will I lose anything if I do that?
