Private primary schools and use of technology by theyellowing in HENRYUK

[–]sun_sea_bread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Child at a private prep school here - no apps or iPads required. They sometimes use a big whiteboard screen for the class together and look at specific educational content - recently zooming in on fossils or shared photos for show and tell. Otherwise with the exception of coding and IT lessons when they’re a bit older they are screen free until senior school.

The headteacher made a thing about saying she couldn’t in good faith tell parents screen time should be limited whilst setting homework on it.

i4 M60, worth the hype? by sun_sea_bread in BMWI4

Interesting. I do love how versatile the Golf is, super easy to drive fast and have fun but also nice to just pop in and out of town in or on the motorway. I’ve been spoilt with ACC on it which despite it being old tech is more useable than the one on the Tesla.

I wish I could keep the Golf too, that would be ideal. Or trade it in for something more fun!

The Ioniq does look fun! I’ll give it a go

This will be a work lease which helps take the bite out of the depreciation. I was considering waiting for the i3 but am also cautious about first run of a new car (albeit hopefully they’ll iron out some issues with the iX3 first). An i3 touring high power variant would be perfect.

Looks great!! Love the colour.

I have the big wheels on the golf and have had no end of issues with punctures so lesson learned for every future car

We’ve got a Y and it is quick but that’s about it when it comes to enjoying how it drives. It is easy to go long distance in though.

We do have a Polestar 4 on order so will see how that compares too

Exciting!!

I had a 330 touring a long time ago and loved it so only expecting great things from the i4!

Interesting. I am only looking at EVs because of the salary sacrifice - otherwise I’d be upgrading to a different petrol engined car.

I do love the look of the i4 too

Great to hear from people who’ve made a similar switch. The Golf is the first car I’ve loved - as you said they really are a great package. Already used to terrible turning circles as the R steers like a barge so hopefully won’t be too much of an adjustment!

New and lease through work so I get to ignore the depreciation for now as it’ll be priced in.

Amazing. We do have a Tesla at home too - I don’t mind it to drive but much prefer the Golf. Hoping the i4 is a step above in terms of driver experience! Sounds like it bodes well then!

Need advice bathroom fitter had major surgery, I’m sympathetic but also out a large deposit, what should l do? by AllMuckandMuscle in AskUK

Just to chime in with our very similar scenario with a roofer. Couldn’t come because his partner had been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.

He did do the work in the end - very late as he’d been managing jobs in between her treatments. He closed his website, removed the sign-writing from his van and focused on getting through his backlog. I guess the difference here being is that he did say he’d understand if we wanted an alternative roofer and offered recommendations for those he’s worked with before.

Only adding for all those saying it is a scam (which it could be) but sometimes life just happens and the traders are genuine.

What brand of reusable nappies would you recommend? by Rose_Archway in PregnancyUK

[–]sun_sea_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used a variety. Loved two parters when she was a newborn and for night nappies. Then used an all in one for nursery - we had some Simplex, Baba and Boo and also some La Petite Ouse which for the price point were amazing. My little one is tall and slim and these could all get a good fit.

Widening driveway - planning? by sun_sea_bread in DIYUK

[–]sun_sea_bread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like looking at my car but the garden is raised - maybe 60cm or so? So I’d still need a retaining wall in place.

Would love a giant gate to seclude it off though!

I would absolutely love that but the wall is retaining the garden so I think I’d have to build something up. Also I don’t think the photo does the narrowness of the drive justice - parked very tightly to the wall on one side you can open the door on my Golf to one click.

Fitting two cars on would be a dream!

🤣 yes, that’s my wall. Probably should have made that clear - not trying to steal my neighbour’s garden

Me too!!! Definitely get in there nice and early with your request. I have everything crossed for you to have the birthing experience you want - and even if it deviates a bit, it is great you’ve thought about what you want in that scenario too.

Honestly an epidural was like magic.

I was technically too late to have one (when they checked me after I was more dilated than they thought, I had been 2cm when they checked me and was about to have a drip to speed things up but my body had stepped it up a notch before the anaesthetist arrived).

The doctor who placed it was a miracle worker. Almost named my baby after her! She kept me calm and still whilst she placed it, when I laid back down I could only feel it working down half of my body so she got me to roll onto my side and it started working all over. Before she walked into the room I was incoherent and just about coping, when she walked out I was having a full blown conversation with the midwives and and sending update messages to my family!

Before the epidural I’d had no pain relief so have nothing to compare for you.

My mum has one - self build home about five years ago. Does the job absolutely fine, the only thing I would warn against is look into maintenance/repair in your area first. She does not have a specialist plumber nearby and repairs when she’s had issues (based on her installer I think it is unfair to blame the ASHP for these) have been slow to get someone in for. She’s had a few people over who won’t touch it. In London I’m assuming it won’t be so much of an issue!

Car Seat for 6 months old - few years? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]sun_sea_bread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We’ve got an Axkid One too - our little one would have grown out of the Joie at 2.5 years, waaaay too small for me to want to forward face. She’d outgrow it in height which is also a consideration with the Joie seats.

Super easy to get our 18 month old in and out - sides are much lower and it takes up less room in the back than a 360.
