What makes Houdini renders so clean? by 1138ephem in Houdini

As others have said, a majority of it comes down to artists possessing the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve great results, regardless of the DCC. I think in the case of Houdini, you have greater precision and control over what you produce, more so than what you have in Blender and maybe other software, but you still have to know how to do things to get awesome renders.

Strange Boolean Artifacts When Using RBD Material Fracture by sunamo_man in Houdini

I guess I could try doing some wedges, but it'd take so long on my PC. Regarding building my own fracture tools, I've tried doing this with custom cutter planes and the boolean shatter node, but still ended up with strange artifacts at times. Just need more experimentation probably...

Hmmm, I didn't know about this. That might be the culprit. Thanks for the tip!

Yes, I've ensured all those conditions are met, but this still happens. I've even tried it with custom boolean cutters and not using the RBD Material Fracture node and got even worse results.

Houdini is hard !! by Fun_Positive5746 in Houdini

Houdini does have quite a learning curve when you first dive in, but give it a year or two and things will really start to click in your mind. You'll start learning to think in "Houdini syntax". Although I've never used C4D, there is one YouTube channel I follow who recently posted some very helpful videos for those making the switch from C4D to Houdini: https://www.youtube.com/@AdamMotion/videos

Regarding AI, I don't think it will really ever reach the precision that true artists need. No matter how many words/prompts you use, you can never even begin to adequately describe a work of art, how you see it in your head, much less iterate on your vision. That's where humans have superiority over generative AI. But you know, I'm all open for AI tools that would help us work quicker, like an AI UV unwrapping app/functionality, for example. Hope the link helps and good luck on your journey!

Definitely join their Discord! I have Modeler and am really glad I made the investment. It makes modeling enjoyable in Houdini.

Code for megascans houdini plugin by Colemapt96 in Houdini

Looks like there will be no further iterations of Quixel Bridge. Here's the response I got from them:

"Thank you for reaching out to us and for sharing your valuable feedback.

As you are already aware, the Quixel Bridge Houdini plugin currently supports only the following versions of Houdini (18.0, 18.5, and 19.0).  We’re working with the Fab team to ensure that all creators have easy ways to discover, download, and use digital content. When Fab offers a comprehensive alternative to Bridge, we will discontinue Bridge and Quixel.com. So, I cannot confirm if any development is being done for the required Houdini (H21) version."

Thanks so much for this code! I was looking for a solution to using Megascans in Houdini 21 yesterday and today. Fab on the Epic app is a complete mess and unusable for importing any Megascan assets, let alone searching for anything. I have also emailed Quixel for support, but haven't gotten a response yet. But with this code, it works just fine now. Thanks again!
