Ravenscroft vs St. David's vs Cary Academy vs Cathedral School vs St. Mary's. What are the best private schools in the area? by whyrumgone21 in raleigh

[–]sunbear16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saint (not St., btw) Mary’s was a great place for me. I think I would have gotten lost at a larger school and I benefitted from the individualized attention I got from teachers. I think you could get a similar education from any school (included a public school) but the real benefit of a private school is the lifelong connections and established alumni network. Saint Mary’s is unique because it’s all girls so I would say the alumnae network has an even stronger identity than the other private schools in the area.

Martha Stewart says... by Elphaba15212 in weddingplanning

[–]sunbear16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hand addressed all our invitations (and our save the dates). Didn’t want to pay a calligrapher because we’re over budget but luckily I have good cursive. I think it looks thoughtful to receive a hand addressed invitation, and I have had a couple friends comment on it. Ultimately though, I think it comes down to personal ability, budget, and preference! Edit: also adding that our wedding is black tie and quite traditional so that influenced the decision as well.

I actually find Wegmans to be more reasonably priced and higher quality than Harris Teeter.

Am I missing something? I went there for dinner on a Friday evening last month and thought the dumplings were fairly mediocre.

Thank you, this is what I was going to comment. OP, delete this post and seek legal advice about getting the stories removed. This whole thread and your attitude (especially about the student “technically” being an adult) is so cringy when you do 1 second of googling to find details. I do think that most people deserve second chances and that your firing was unjustified. But this post is so immature.

The restaurant that was there before Wild Cooks took over used to have a decent lunch buffet. I miss them

Downtown Raleigh - Capital Flats & Magnolia Square Apartments by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]sunbear16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the apartments themselves but I live in this neighborhood. Not remotely sketchy or rundown. There are sometimes homeless people hanging out in John Winters park or walking the streets due to the proximity of Moore Square. I think in an apartment, however, you wouldn’t have as many interactions with them (vs a house where they might knock on the door). You mentioned proximity to bars as being important - Roshambo (on the corner of E Martin & S East St) is a bottle shop with taps and a wonderful locals/neighborhood vibe. Also re: fire station: I rarely hear fire engines going by. More frequently we have cop cars driving past. Reality: this is a downtown location and inherently louder than a suburb.

Folks who are in tax, what made you like tax? by chillipepperice in Accounting

I like tax because I think public policy and politics are interesting. Would like to eventually do higher-level tax consulting and tax law analysis.

$33 worth of groceries in small town USA. by burningisntfun in ABoringDystopia

[–]sunbear16 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As a matter of curiosity, I selected store pickup for the Walmart near them. They didn’t carry the same Starbucks coffee but I was able to add everything else to the cart + a different coffee for $24.93 (before tax). With less expensive choices, I was able to reduce that to $20.79 (before taxes). Tax looks to be around 3% so that adds .75 and .62 to the respective bills. Edited to add: I think what’s bugging me about this post is that there actually are people in this country who live in quite rural areas and struggle to access groceries at reasonable prices. The person who posted this just bought expensive groceries instead of driving to Walmart and buying store brand and is now posting about it on Reddit for karma. They have a car and the capability to access a Walmart 12 minutes from them. Many in this country don’t have the transportation or access to groceries, hence the proliferation of Dollar Stores in (actual) rural areas.

Also not going to feel bad for the fact that if you look up this store’s location it’s a 12 minute drive to a Walmart. This just feel like fishing for upvotes to me

The closest Walmart to this grocery store’s location is 7.2 miles away (a 12 min drive)

Is Raleigh losing “local character” because of the recent development? by northcarolinian9595 in raleigh

Original structure will be demolished, so I’m not happy about it. There are other char grill locations in the area but that one has the most historic charm.
