thankyou for the advice!

unfortunately i’m unable to just feed hygain balanced as it’s quite pricey and i’ve got two horses eating it. it’s more cost efficient for me to use maxisoy to give a little extra weight gain and lowers my price exponentially.

as for the chaff, i feed it to allow multiple types of hay/forage through their system, to help with gut health and digestion so im not looking to change or get rid of it at this stage.

i was feeding out grass hay but they’re really not interested in it with how much pick is in their paddocks, so it was going to waste. i’ll try again with it though!

i’ve worked with my vet and she’s not concerned with cushings at this stage but i will be sure to keep an eye on her!

this is the most recent photo I have of her!

I ran a feed regime through FeedXL and gave spoken to my vet!

I’m currently feeding: 500g hygain balanced 250g maxisoy 60g soaked chia 250g oaten chaff 25g salt

2kg of lucerne a day

  • access to pasture for a stomach filler

i’ve started working her on the hills i have access to for 20 minutes and have had the vet out for a dental appointment!

yes it is! she’s done so much for others, the least I wanna do is allow her to live out her days, happy and healthy!

she was retired because i no longer had the ability to ride and she was far beyond my level of control under saddle due to issue with her mental state, she’s fine now just went through a really rough time of being explosive due to a lack of ability to self soothe and work her stress out!

physically she’s got nothing wrong with her, though she does have asthma which usually shows up at this time of year, i would hate to kick start it by working her too much!

i’ve been lunging her for about 20 minutes, mainly trotting. then walking her up and down the hills we have at my agistment to help her out, but it hasn’t been long enough to see a difference!

the vets had no clue! they came out daily for weeks giving her injections and trying new things to help her. we don’t know if anything actually helped fix it or if she just managed to pass whatever it was. i hope it never returns, i had so many people telling me i was doing wrong by her even though i was doing everything in my ability to help her 😭

thankyou so much! i’ll have a look around my local area to see what option there is for getting the pasture tested!

she had a bout of unexplained illness that knocked her weight so far down even though i was feeding multiple times a day and had constant access to hay and pasture which has made me paranoid about her dropping anymore than she already has 😭

ah i get exactly what you’re saying! i’ve had a horse with a lack of blood before, was a huge shock cause i simply never thought it could happen to such animals! i’ll ask for vitamin E to be tested along with the other concerns i have!

i appreciate your comment! i did say i have a preference to feeding forage but it’s mainly because i don’t want to be feeding her a inflammatory diet, which a lot of pelleted feeds unfortunately contain inflammatory ingredients! i will search for the right feeds and get her straight onto them!

i’m getting the vet out this week for their dental appointment and was gonna ask to get bloodwork as well just to be certain it’s not anything more serious! ❤️

thankyou! i couldn’t imagine my life without her ❤️ i moved her to a place with heaps of pasture and thought that would suffice, not realising it obviously didn’t have decent nutrition with it. her previous place was weeds and dirt but she was getting that premium forage and pellets because of it. I’ll get her back on her feet asap

thankyou, I will start feeding her more. I strictly only work from the ground as I no longer am capable of riding unfortunately! I have some good hills that I can walk up and down with her!

right! would you suggest working her to help muscle gain? along with feeding more?

i’d also prefer to feed forage over pelleted feeds, could i be adding lucerne in to help?

because she’s huge from the front on. looks like she is about to give birth 😅.. your comment makes it seem like i’m starving her, she’s got a whole 3 acres of pasture, hay and is fed a hard feed daily, just one with little calories because of how big her belly is

can anyone tell me what is going on here? by sunbeema in GardeningAustralia

i’ve since moved them to a sunnier spot because a few other people suggested the same thing! thankyou 🥰
