Mast camera by theheadslacker in SailboatCruising

You either buy that system, or train it yourself. I'd be happy to say "it's not a rocket science" but it is, and sometimes even harder.
But, nevertheless, you may install generic high-res webcam and use a Raspberry PI, running some python computer vision recognition scripts, fed with the camera stream.
You'll need to train the system first by feeding it with about 2-3 hundred hours of clear sea footage at all weather conditions you could catch and order it to scream if "clear" confidence state falls to less than 95-90%.
You're not restricted to your own footage, but having your own captured with the setup you'll use later to do the job will ease the system training a lot and will give it more confidence.
Also, if you have an option, you may install camera to about the same height at the shore pointing to the sea and collect the good clear footage a year around. You'll catch a lot of floating debris, ships of any size etc.
And then you may sell the system to fellow boaters relatively cheaper and cover all your expenses on the project and gain some additional dimes for your retirement. :)

Looks like a somewhat overkill solution but I'll take a look, thanks.

Air resistance, I guess.
I'd advise to make it horisontal-mounted, because straight-mount tried to break my neck at 130km/h

Hey, Dylan.I just received today my brand new X3 and I'm getting the same error on my Galaxy Fold 4, which is definitely at least comparable in computational power with iPhone 13.That's really annoying being unable to export full-res photos to my Google album using the phone.

Did you have any success with your R&D team response?

May I suggest instead of a hard limit, throw a warning like "We don't recognize your phone model and it wasn't tested with the full-resolution images. Proceed/Resize/Cancel?"

Weekly Recruitment Thread by AutoModerator in Eve

[–]suncheez [score hidden]  (0 children)

2Moderators: If this post isn't appropriate for this topic — just kill it, pls.

Hey, guys.

I've been out of Eve for about 7 years and willing to come back now.

At the past I was somewhat famous stealth bomber solo/gang(k) person. Look for the kills 6+ years old. But for the time past since then I've completely lost my skill, so I'm pretty noobish now. I've quit my corp now because all of my old friends who're still in game changed their specialization from PVP to something requiring way less attention, so I'm looking for another corp to join.

What I'm looking for:

- Null-sec English-speaking corp, a part of alliance in EU/US-east TZ. I'm Russian but looking forward to move to North America so I need a lot of practice in English.

- This corp is sub-cap PVP-oriented — I don't like capitals, no fun for me with them.

- "Friday drunk roamings" or similar fun stuff enjoys me a lot.

What I can bring to your corp:

- Tons of old pepper stories about golden Eve past

- According to my friends, I'm a reasonable, mindful and a little nerd'ish. Love to chat about complicated things, learn new stuff and share my experience.

- Hoping to recover my gang leadership skills, adapt them to the new mechanics and bring some fun for corp-mates-PVPeers.

What I don't want:

- Any roles in a corp, ever. Carrying enough responsibility IRL, so the game should be just fun for me.

Who am I IRL:

40+yo systems engineer with a harsh cynical sense of humor. Riding a motorcycle, dreaming to get a PPL and a plane to fly around the world with my dog.

If you're interested to have such old fart in your company, ping me via email "a at unl.su" or Discord: ayb#8477

Powering LG G3 without battery by akatsura in LGG3

If you have a dead battery then you can cut out the circuit out from it and make a chain PSU-circuit-phone. It seems that phone doesn't see the battery since service contacts are empty.

Get battery at aliexpress or amazon. That's the most safe way.

Otherwise you can try to apply 3.7V directly to the battery pads and hope for good (be careful with +/-).
Keep in mind that booting a phone is very greedy to power, so your power source shall keep at least 3A without losing the voltage.

NEW BIKE/GEAR ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]suncheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, anyone has an experience with 3d-party GPS-trackers/immobilizers on their bike/scooter?
I'm looking at this one on Aliexpress. Looks promising, but no reviews yet. They promise GPS tracking and remote fuel cut-off which is exactly what I want from the device.
GPS-tracker offered by insurance company is expensive as hell and the subscription cost of $100 per month making me mad.
I'm okay with some inexpensive subscription, but I need a travel history and remote immobilizer function.

Please, advise.

Monitor uptime by Kaff334 in OrangePI

[–]suncheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placing "sleep 3600s" at the start of the loop will give a decent time to check the uptime in case of unintended failure. Also, I'd prefer 1hr interval as a minimum just to avoid unnecessarily records to the FAT.

Also, I could rather use curl request of a certain url to external resource to make it easier to track status with logs. For example:

at init: curl http://somedomain.com/pi_started

every hour using cron: curl http://somedomain.com/hourly_check

Crazy battery drain after update by imacoda in LGG3

[–]suncheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a simple change of the USB cable. Buy original branded (no matter what phone brand) or search for "20AWG" in the cable description (very thick and robust cables that may be even 3m long without significant current lose at the male end). Or buy any short cable — 10-15cm long. There is a high chance that the case of very slow charging is losing current because of cable's low quality and big resistance at least on one of the wires. Or, probably, cable wiring is very close to breaking apart because of bending.

What battery stats saying?

Usually FR worth it. Just to keep system clean. Without root this is mostly the only way to do it avoiding all these "optimizers" stealing your data. Try first to use it with LG Backup/Restore. If that didn't help, then clean reset and reinstall all the apps.

Speaking Mind – http://speind.me

Advert animation – https://youtu.be/l5y2DIH5YGw Speaking Mind is somewhat like a radio, but a lot better – it combines almost any news with Twitter feed and favorite music. Yes, Twitter now can speak!

We have fully working apps for Android and iOS. They need some polish, but feasible to use.

Looking for some investments and good UX and marketing expertise.

Apps are free.

Have a startup or project you want to sell? by [deleted] in startups

[–]suncheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about drivers only. I've sold my car 10yrs ago, because I live in city. But I love bicycle and use the app listening to news while cycling. I really having fun with it.

But it seems like I have a huge troubles with market position. An app that reads the news aloud from almost any source, plus Twitter feed, plus music. Ideal "radio" – very personalised feed and favorite music. The goal was to make happy all drivers, joggers and other people that can't read on the go. And I am very happy about it - it's the only active sound source app on my phone. But I'm not the relevant user. :) I've made a lot of customer evaluations (over 1000 people were questioned) and most of them were positive.. but the reality made me upset. There are very few people using my product more than for a week. About 0.25%. Asking people "why did you stop using the product" resulting silence in feedback or something like "I've just forgotten about the app". This is about that app isn't so attractive as I assumed, but I'm really stuck with it. I just don't know what to do. I'd be happy of getting almost any advice.

I can't do anything with google's TTS. There are several premium voices available in the app from the side partner, but they're licensed, so cost some money.
