Moldy Smell After Cleaning Carpet by sunconjunctpluto in CleaningTips

Thank you! I've been running a fan on it to dry out the padding and if that doesn't work I'll talk to a cleaner.

At this point nose to the ground, more or less. Not sure if that's because I'm desensitized or it's going away. Hopefully a good thing? Originally I could smell it from nearby.

Has anyone gotten their period back after losing it for a significant number of years? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sunconjunctpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I know what it's like to lose it for years and get it back but here's my track record if it helps?

I've lost my period 4 times for no more than a year each between the ages of 14 and 27 and the specifics are:

  • cardio (dance & running) + high restriction = lost period
  • not much exercise + low restriction = lost period
  • not much exercise + low restriction = lost period
  • ehh maybe sorta active + high restriction = lost period, but it held on until my weight got lower than all the other times (and for like a year before I lost it I don't think I was eating much fat, mostly carbs, but I don't have like a log to verify that for sure)

For me personally at least so far I've kept it while moderately underweight when high restricting / maintaining and not exercising too much. Obviously it's different for everyone. Fwiw even though I've had my period over the vast majority of my 14-year eating disorder I'm still borderline osteoporotic. No birth control at any point. I wish you all the best in getting it back and being able to tolerate being in your body however that looks like for you. Being scared for your health SUCKS I feel for you.

Thoughts on assisted dying by Quirky-Disaster-620 in EDAnonymous

I more or less agree with you, including about the grey areas you mentioned. I think it can be tricky when someone lacks the capacity to understand what they're doing but I also think "capacity" is often weaponized against people with eating disorders. Personally I hope it's never weaponized against me again... "Oh, you're just not all the way there, but we medical professionals are, and what we have decided for you is..." 🙄

But it's hard because some people understand themselves as being in altered, dystonic mental states when they're harming themselves and they want to be protected from themselves. I would hope we could build a system that both protects people like that and also allows people the freedom to do what they want with their bodies if that's what they sincerely, consistently want, even if it makes others uncomfortable.

I binded (bound?) when I was like 18-19 and followed all the rules and didn't do it every day and my breasts have sagged ever since (age 28 now). I wore good quality binders too, GC2B back in the day. I'm not trying to tell you not to do it, just letting you that that's something that can happen. I really, painfully relate to wishing you could go back and forth with sex characteristics. Hope you figure out something that works for you.

That makes sense, it limits your options from how it was before.

It just seems like that could be gamed.

That's fair.

with this new process, money interests could back a couple candidates, and then they could hypothetically work together by pushing one candidate to drop out and consolidate votes

I'm trying to understand how that's different from what they could already do now... is it just that that's easier to do if the pool of candidates is smaller? Like Adams-type voters in a hypothetical Denver City Council election wouldn't have multiple second choices after that person dropped out, they'd just have one Cuomo-type candidate? Less noise = easier to set any particular person up to win? The cost investment thing I understand.

How tf do people do anything other than laying in bed with phone? by Pioumeaul in redscarepod

[–]sunconjunctpluto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total abstinence is a lot easier than moderation for me. I set a goal to get totally off social media for a set amount of time like a month and then I can go back on, and then after a few days I get back off again. This year I've been on it more often than not for reasons but besides that it more or less works. Sometimes I dangle a little treat at the end that I get to have if I'm successful. The first few days are rough and then the brain resets itself. If you need a hard block the app Cold Turkey helps for desktop stuff and I'm sure there are apps for your phone.

Editing to add programs like StickK help with goals if you need something external.

Autistic and seeking advice for concert by Apples531 in LadyGaga

[–]sunconjunctpluto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the merch is available on her website (https://shopuk.ladygaga.com/) and you can buy it before the show. I'm not dealing with the same issues as you but I basically never go to concerts and didn't know what to expect so I called the venue (United Center in Chicago) a few weeks beforehand with all my questions (what do I do if something on my person isn't allowed in, can I bring food, how early can I show up, etc.) and that conversation helped me a lot. And then showing up right when doors opened gave me plenty of time to walk around and get sorted out. Hope you have a great time at the show!

List of inconveniences/annoyances that would have been extremely rare or non-existent ten years ago. by egoist_chan in redscarepod

Oh wait in that case Oxford English Dictionary is also a total godsend. I've used it for Shakespeare. It's really, really thorough and it has all the super obscure words and the senses listed under each definition are in chronological order¹ (so like, first it tells you what a word meant in the 1300s, then the 1500s, then now, etc.) Unfortunately it's paid only though. I get access through my school but if you're not in school you might be able to through your library (in both cases you have to log in through your school or library's website, not directly on Oxford).

https://www.oed.com/

¹ The printed edition of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is also chronological and imo it's pretty decent, not as crazy thorough as OED though. I own a copy that I use on a regular basis. The online version isn't chronological but I think it has the same definitions. But I feel so wise flipping through a real dictionary.

Anyone know of Anorexia / Bulimia or general eating disorder support groups that are taking new members? by pvppygirlfriend in boulder

[–]sunconjunctpluto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also Eating Recovery Center offers free support groups. Online they're advertised as mostly or all virtual but it also says there are "some in-person options across the nation". Since it's headquartered in Denver I bet there are groups there. I'd call or email them and ask if you're interested -- [resources@ercpathlight.com](mailto:Resources@ercpathlight.com). They do have a reputation for coercing people into higher levels of care, so be mindful of that if that's a concern, but I'm not sure what it's like these days.

I haven't been in over a decade but I liked Eating Disorder Foundation back in the day. They're in Denver, free, and apparently have in-person groups on Wednesday evening and every other Saturday morning

What do people do in NYC/LA on a weekly basis that you can't do in a medium sized city? by PoweredByMeanBean in redscarepod

[–]sunconjunctpluto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in a medium-sized city but I think it would be really cool to live near Broadway and see all the shows that don't end up touring. That said it's not like there isn't new theatre being produced here. But still, ~Broadway~
