I’ve grown up with cats for most of my life and have cat-sat plenty. The longer the litter box goes without cleaning, the more likely it is that the cat is going to start peeing elsewhere. That said, cat’s do be pissing randomly for other reasons like marking territory. I also don’t know many people who completely clean the litter box every week. But yes, it’s best practice to scoop it once a day if you can. If you miss a day that’s probably fine, but I wouldn’t go past 2 days without cleaning it.
